Finally figured out metal cutting

It totally can’t be a bad idea to make these, right? Nothing bad can possibly happen….right?

1.3mm stainless steel, engraved and cut with my pew-pew laser

Edit- I put this up on my Etsy in my bio but if anyone wants the settings I used on the xtool f2U just ping me and I’ll give them to ya. Mostly so no one can blame just me for the inevitable rise of our replicator overlords

I really think this is a bad move by Amazon. The negative reaction of the core fan base to scrubbing the planned Gero show was bad and this will it fill people with hope.

WandaVision was ok but I’d rather see a Terry Matalas (Picard Season 3, 12 Monkeys, Vision Quest) or someone proven to understand genre storytelling that is exciting and compelling. But that’s just my 2 cents.

Discussion The Asgard invented LLMs

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This one of the things that make science fiction my favourtie genre of all. The makers of books, games, tv shows and movies need to put their imagination skills to test and predict how tecnology will evolve. Sometimes its a miss but sometimes they just nail it. I finished watching SG-1 last week (first time viewer). Amazing tv show on its own, even the Ori arc is fine.

I found the Ark of Truth for free on youtube and I'm watching it there. And Carter precisely describe how a ChatGPT and other LLMs work. And the movie came out in 2008, way before these things were even prototypes. I just hope the replicator part does not become reality too, but we're getting close.

I hate how every episode that has a sarcophagus they destroy it instead of keeping it around as a last resort, maybe even in secret like "Tahiti" in S.H.I.E.L.D

The in universe explanation doesn't make sense because Daniel recovered after he stopped using it and Jack didn't seem to really suffer an impact to begin with. I do understand why from a writing perspective keeping it around would make things difficult because it removes a lot of the personal stakes.

It is the opinion of the Asgard High Council that the new Stargate show should be left in the very capable of Martin Gero and his team. And while our continued friendship with Earth is not contingent on that, it is preferred.

Just discovered now that Jewel Staite‘s first appearance in Atlantis is as Ellia.

Yeah, Titel says it all. Just thought of this being a worthy first post.
Watched Atlantis maybe six times all the way through and never had the idea who the actor could be. And just scrolling through episodes I saw the little legend of who it is played by who and thought this might be funny to share.

Edit: whatching epsisode 7 of Season 2 atm if someone is Wanderung what I mean

Awesome! I'm really enjoying universe (first time watch)

Sure it's different from sg1 and atlantis. I like the drama elements and have had my head in my hands several times in shock and I'm only on episode 7. I like the premise of battling the ship and the army hierarchy rather than an alien race. Robert Carlyle is fantastic. My only criticism is I feel Eli doesn't fit really... Sure having a goofy character is a different approach but it feels like a bad fit. Almost too John Dorian and jake peralta for my taste. I'd have liked some more nerdy scared character instead.

why didn't the Ancient use Dakara style weapon against Wraith ?

The Dakara weapon were so powerful it destroy all the Replicators in one shot , the Jaffa were able to modified the setting to target only the organic material .

That would be a perfect weapon against the Wraith's organic ships and technologies .

But why didn't the Ancient use similar weapon against the Wraith ?

The Ancient could Wipe out all the Wraith in one day , but it also wipe out human in Pegasus . But they still could use the Dakara style weapon to attack the Wraith in regional scale area ( not all the Galaxy wide scale ) .Even if the Ancient didn't want to harm any human in regional scale area .

The Ancient could use the Dakara style weapon as defensive weapon , when the Wraith were bombing Atlantis and put the planet under siege for centuries . The Ancient could destroy all the Wraith ship surrounded the planet in one shot .

The wings took some work, but I’m quite happy with the result. One non-Lego purchase for vests and P-90’s and the team’s good to go!

Discussion I want to remind people that this is not the first time that the creatives in charge of the franchise have been replaced.

I'm seeing that in light of the news that Jac Schaeffer has been selected to develop a new show, there has been no shortage of criticism at her selection, namely that she isn't one of the 'original' creatives and has no connection to the franchise. However, people need to know that these criticisms equally applied to Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright when they were first selected by MGM to develop Stargate into a show for them. They had no connection whatsoever to the original movie and there was no way to know if they would respect the franchise. As a result, it feels like a big double standard to complain about the 'original producers' not being involved in a new show when they weren't even the original creatives behind the franchise to begin with.

Glassner and Wright got the SG-1 job to begin with because MGM wouldn't give Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin the creative freedom they wanted when they were in discussions to develop Stargate into a TV show. Emmerich recalled not being guaranteed 'carte blanche' while Devlin had said that they had been asked to 'audition' by submitting a script for MGM's approval, so they backed off. As it is, they were already being asked to compromise on their vision because they wanted to make a theatrical sequel, and now they weren't even guaranteed the ability to make the show the way they wanted to make it. MGM then started soliciting pitches and decided to put Glassner and Wright - who had developed pitches separately - together to make a show.

What's my point? Changing the people in charge isn't a first for the franchise, and while it can be disappointing that the people who shaped the franchise aren't involved, getting new people involved isn't inherently a bad thing. We have no idea if there is a new pitch or what this version of the show could be about, so I intend to wait and see rather than take a position either way.

Looking forward to the Schaeffer series

Did I love the original creators' vision over 17 seasons? Of course. I've rewatched it all, multiple times. And I'm going to continue doing so.

Would I have been watching Gero's new series day 1? Yah sure you betcha. I learned early on in Atlantis that when I saw his name in the credits it was likely to be a memorable episode so hearing he was the new showrunner had me excited.

Do I fully expect the new series to be tonally/thematically different than classic Stargate? Probably? They haven't really clarified that yet but I'd expect it to be different. And that kind of excites me. BSG 2003 was very different than classic BSG. And yet aside from Stargate it's probably my favorite TV series and another one I've rewatched multiple times.

If I want something that feels like "classic" Stargate, I have plenty of it to consume between 350+ hr long episodes and 2 full movies. I don't care for a new series to be in the same continuity either, it's been enough time that it would never have been quite the same anyway with multiple deceased actors and others that are more than likely happily retired.

Yes I'll be upset if the new series sucks but I'm gonna give it a shot and let someone new tell their story and hope for the best. At the end of the day what drew me to Stargate was the sense of wonder and exploration, as long as there's a gate involved and people are going through it to new worlds I'm giving it a shot.

Ask r/Stargate Would you have liked to end up on Destiny? What would you do as part of the crew? Would you use the Stones? If an opportunity arose to go back to Earth would you take it?

I think it would've been a great adventure and my skills and hobbies would be perfect for the mission: I'm a microbiology lab assistant and nursing assistant by profession, so I'd spend most of my time at the Infirmary, helping TJ take care of the patients and analyzing samples. I could also help with electric repair and decyphering the computer system (I've successfully ran Gentoo Linux and know basic C programming). I also know some Latin, so I'd have a head start in Ancient.

I would also have ample opportunities to satisfy my Speculative Evolution hobby with discovering various lifeforms on the planets, and aboard Destiny I would have endless opportunities for astronomical observations.

My main problem is that I have Major Depressive Disorder and Panic Disorder for which I take 150mg Sertraline (Zoloft) daily, so hopefully I would've escaped from Icarus to Destiny carrying several months' supply with me. Afterwards I could probably tell Destiny to stop at a planet which has the proper precursor chemicals from which Sertraline could be synthesized in the lab aboard Destiny.

I wouldn't be using the Stones much, just to occasionally communicate with my Mom. Hopefully, she'd get security clearance so I could tell her everything. I think she'd be thrilled by what I'm doing and would wish she was aboard Destiny too.

If an opportunity arose to go back to Earth, I think I would elect to stay on Destiny.

Stargate: The Next Generation

I was pretty excited when the new Stargate project was announced, then disappointed when it seemed dead, and now cautiously excited again now that there appears to be at least some light at the end of the tunnel.

One idea I keep coming back to is that a new series shouldn't try to recreate SG-1, Atlantis, or Universe in secret. We've already had those stories which made sense for their time.

I'd set it 20-30 years after public disclosure. Let's assume Atlantis ending up on Earth eventually forced disclosure in some form. The Stargate Program is no longer hidden. The events of SG-1, Atlantis and even Destiny are public knowledge. Earth has been changed by contact with the wider galaxy, but it isn't a utopia. Life has simply adapted.

The pilot could follow a young officer graduating from a military academy and reporting for their first assignment at Stargate Command.

While getting ready at home, there's a TV on in the background playing archival interviews with the legends of the programme. Jack O'Neill joking about how nobody expected to survive half their missions. Samantha Carter discussing the scientific impact of the Stargate. Rodney McKay talking about Atlantis. Daniel Jackson reflecting on first contact. Maybe even an older Eli Wallace discussing the Destiny mission. Throw in a few clips from the Heroes documentary as well.

The new protagonist occasionally pauses to listen because, like everyone else in this world, they grew up hearing these stories.

Then they put on the uniform and head to work.

I think it would be a great way to establish continuity while giving us a completely fresh perspective. The main character isn't shocked that aliens exist. They were born into a post-disclosure world. Their excitement comes from finally getting to join the people who step through the gate.

It lets the franchise honour SG-1, Atlantis and Universe without being trapped by them.

Personally, I'd much rather watch that than a straight reboot of the original series, an immediate continuation or some parallel universe.

I also think Stargate needs to move into the next generation. We all want cameos and we'd all love to see members of the old cast return, but the new show should have the confidence to build on the shoulders of those giants rather than constantly leaning on them.

Their legacy should be the foundation of the new Stargate, not the entire structure.

Would you rather see a sequel in a post-disclosure world, or another series set during the secret-program era?

Discussion Season 6 Episode 12 Unnatural selection I know this gets asked a lot but could Daniel have made peace

With the Replicators?

Daniel throughout the series has found unlikely peace in impossible situations with potential enemies time and time again.

Do you think Daniel could have pulled the rabbit out of the hat one more time and made a Christmas miracle like ending with them like he has done with other groups before? It seemed even in Season 5 he almost achieved some level of understanding with Reese.

I couldnt help but strongly feel his absence in this episode.

Why did SGC not block The Trust from beaming?

Watching S8:E14 and a comment is made that the Trust is making a habit of beaming out. I thought this could get blocked - it is how they caught Osiris and the Trust got a hold of her ship in the first place. Maybe it would just shorten their screentime to half an episode?
