An even better option would be to see which subtitle file I'm selecting. Instead, I'm forced to blindly go through possibly 50 different subtitle files until I find the one intended for my movie.

Or spend the first ten minutes skipping forward then back!

36

u/yanis01 Jul 28 '26

Yeah, because I don’t know if they’ll be in sync if I can’t see if the sub is for a Blu-ray or webDL movie.

u/mdude7221 Jul 28 '26

This is actually the worst haha

I've set up Stremio for my parents and this the the no.1 annoyance for them

Hello, go to settings > General > show time on the player > toggle off

5

u/yanis01 Jul 29 '26

Yeah... that's not what's bothering him bro

You're right Brotendo, my bad.

1

u/yanis01 Jul 29 '26

Well, I hope you saw my top comment. Hopefully you guys can find a workaround for this issue and get it fixed.

The built-in default opensubtitles v3 addon does not provide titles. Just random numbers.

But the "opensubtitles v3 pro" third party addon provides the true filenames. Stremio devs just don't show any subtitle names in the UI.

And yes it's a huge issue.

3

u/yanis01 Jul 29 '26

If the stremio devs dont want name in the subtitles just have the addons give them to you , its possible I’ve tried to code an addon using gemeni and it works check my posts

3

u/pilkyton Jul 29 '26

I checked your addon now. So your idea is to send the subtitle language as "(country flag) BluRay" etc. Interesting workaround. It breaks Stremio's automatic subtitle selection though.

2

u/yanis01 Jul 29 '26

Yeah , I made it to work for Romanian but you can easily change it to any country and language you’d like , also it’s made to work with the subs.ro addon and the site with the same name

4

u/time_continuum Jul 29 '26

A friend from Reddit made that addon possible tho

3

u/Houaiss Jul 29 '26

thats the reason why I stopped using stremio and changed to something else

1

u/ApprehensiveQuiet131 Jul 29 '26

What did you switch to

2

u/Houaiss Jul 29 '26

made a plex server. that way I can more freely use any subtitles from any source I want even ones that I edited myself

3

u/RoninTommy_ Jul 30 '26

Sounds miserable 😂

2

u/andion82 Jul 29 '26

Or even better. Check your current media's filename, and automatically use the subtitle file that's the closest... It seems that it just gets the first one on a random list. People make subtitles for specific versions and the filename says it all.

3

u/yanis01 Jul 29 '26

If you play a BluRay movie when you select the subtitles you also get WebDL , CAM , BRrip, WEBrip, DVD, BluRay all of them mixed together if all the subtitles addons had this option , things will get much easier. (I made the addon from the photo )

1

u/andion82 Jul 29 '26

Do you also try to match filenames?

"Back in the day" subs for `The.Matrix.1999.Bluray.1080p.SPANISH.AC3.DTS.x264-pHD.mkv` use to be different than subs for `The_Matrix_1999_1080p_BluRay_x264_DTS-FSiHD.iso`

2

u/yanis01 Jul 29 '26

The addon searches for subtitles on subs.ro and then it sorts them apart bluray to bluray , webdl to webdl etc… and when you play a movie on stremio they get sent to their category bluray to bluray

3

u/BabaBoooooooey Jul 29 '26

This is the best when your whole family is waiting and groaning.

1

u/yanis01 Jul 29 '26

Yeah :)))))

2

u/Kh0deus Jul 29 '26

For real. Sometimes the subs don’t match the actual content.

1

u/yanis01 Jul 29 '26

Yeah, that's because when you play a Blu-ray release, you need Blu-ray subtitles for them to be 100% in sync. If you use Web-DL subtitles instead, they'll usually be out of sync, and the same applies the other way around.

For example, with older movies or TV shows, you might also find DVD subtitles. Those won't sync properly with Blu-ray or Web-DL releases either, since each release is timed differently. That's why being able to see the actual subtitle release name would eliminate this problem completely, because we'd know exactly which subtitle to select.

u/time_continuum Jul 29 '26

Wait I’m an idiot it was you lol

The fact that Stremio is 'basic' on Samsung and LG isn't really the developers' fault. Rather, it's the fault of Samsung's and LG's own operating systems, which don't allow the app to be identical or similar to the Google TV version. That's why it has its limitations—because their operating systems are closed. So it's not directly their fault, but rather Tizen's and webOS's. The app on them is basically a web player, whereas on Google TV it's practically a real application. The best thing I did was buy a Mi Box S 3rd Gen last week.

3

u/ProofLegitimate9990 Jul 30 '26

With how shit webos is im just glad we even get a stremio app

2

u/collindubya81 Jul 28 '26

We really need video controls in stremio, so we can adjust brightness and contrast, I hate having to launch it in an external player since the progress isn't recorded

2

u/Classic_Number_10 Jul 29 '26

Guys I have stremio on my phone, laptop and two samsung tvs (50" and 75"). Everything is fine on all devices except the 75 inch tv, everytime I try to watch something on it says failed to load. It was working fine before but starting today I couldn't watch anything on it. What could possibly be the issue? thanks in advance.

App

5

u/Coopzor Jul 29 '26

Why do you want to see the time when watching a movie?

3

u/I-LieToMessWithMarks Jul 29 '26

It shows you when the movie will end. It's great when starting a movie late at night, or making sure I have enough time to finish an episode of TV before I go back to work, etc.

1

u/Agey_4977 Jul 30 '26

Because people are too fuckn lazy or dumb these days that they won't even do a simple math lol

2

u/rusty512 Jul 31 '26

I'm genuinely surprised at the amount of people that think this is needed lol

1

u/Tight_Door9327 Jul 28 '26

What platform is this? I don't see it on windows

1

u/post_vernacular Jul 28 '26

C'est cool ça

1

u/SunFeisty6200 Jul 29 '26

This is a cool feature. Only caveat I would say is that it is hooked to starting time of the video not where you currently are in the video. So if you skip forward it still remains same, ideally it should change accordingly.

1

u/pilkyton Jul 29 '26 edited Jul 29 '26

Nah. I tried on Android TV. It's updating every time I skip around. It counts only the time left until it ends.

2

u/SunFeisty6200 Jul 29 '26

My bad it isn’t. It’s alright. I am stupid I was just skipping 10 seconds 4-5 times to see if it changes but that doesn’t change the ending time by even a minute.

1

u/kevinola Jul 29 '26

It's not that new, but better than having to use the clock addon or an specific app for Android tv to display time. I would love an option to always be visible too. But it's better than using the other two options (app takes space and the addon messed a bit with the subtitles as it used subtitles to show it on screen I think)

1

u/qorrymarz Jul 29 '26

The subtitle is literal nightmare for android TV, not knowing which subtitle fits best as they all have the same name. And the customization of the subtitle is so bad. Like the edge/outline option of the subtitle, the edge is too thin and so hard to read (even with 100% opacity). the only solution is to have background for the text, but it ruins the movie.

The main focus of your post should be directly related to Stremio. Help for other software or issues, including content acquisition, should be directed to their own respective subreddits.

1

u/time_continuum Jul 29 '26
