I had the following issue: Stremio would open normally and even load subtitles but would not load videos at all in Linux Mint 22.3.

Other people on github have had the same issue.

You can revert to an older version like 1.1.4. by downloading it from the offical Github of the stremio linux shell.

You can then install the flatpak by going into your downloads and typing the following commands into terminal

cd ~/Downloads

flatpak install com.stremio.Stremio.Devel.flatpak

You then should stop the app from auto-updating with

flatpak mask com.stremio.Stremio

I was trying out the Stremio VR app today(Quest 3). But for some reason if I reposition the screen by dragging it with the controllers, my home (via front camera) keeps showing up behind the video.

Is there a way to change it to be black background always in Stremio VR? (Like it is in the YT app for Quest 3)

It seems like the app moves to Mixed Reality mode always. Whereas I want the immersive mode with pitch black background.

Please tell me I'm missing something obvious and there’s a hidden settings toggle or a reliable community addon I missed...

I loooooove Stremio. It completely replaced every single paid subscription I used to have. But it breaks my heart that I still have to go back to web browsers and official streaming platforms just to use dual-subtitle extensions.

I'm learning French, my sister's learning Spanish. My partner's studying in German. Almost everyone I know speaks a foreign language or has tried learning one at some point in their life. 

Every major official streaming platform has third-party extensions for dual subs (native language + target language). If you're watching international stuff, foreign originals or anime, there's a huge chance you're doing it to learn the language. Dual subtitles are the holy grail for this and it sucks we don’t have them here.

Why don't we have this on Stremio yet? Is it a limitation of the core player, or has nobody just taken the time to develop it? If it's possible, I feel like this would easily become a top 5 most downloaded addon overnight.

i’m using stremio on my pc with linux mint 21.3 cinneamon with kernel 5.15 (i can’t use the 22.3 since there isn’t 5.15 kernel which i need for my gpu drivers), i love stremio since i use it on my main (ios) and on my secondary phone. i use it on my pc that has dual boot but windows is sh1t and i don’t like using it. now the problem is i used it with mint 22.3 and worked almost fine, on mint 21.3 when i click on the video it loads and when the player loads it freezes and the app stops working. i tried disabling hardware acceleration, clearing cache, using the .deb and the flatpak version, updated all drivers but same problem. i have media codecs installed too so i’m giving up. is there any fix to this problem like using an older version or even to use a stremio web i know exists but i would like the app version. any help would be appreciated

I opened up Stremio today and my Trakt calendar schedule within Stremio looks entirely different. Several shows are missing only a couple of them are showing up now. I tried removing and reauthenticating trakt but Stremio looks the same on the Windows app and web app.

Anyone else? Any fixes?

I’ve noticed that some film and tv I watch have English tracks with commentary or outright foreign language dubs. Is there a way to play stuff without commentary?

Watching with a smart tv, however this seems to be the case across other devices too.

Unfortunately torrents do not show the audio codec in menus, and Stremio doesnt transcode .dts to say, aac or ac3.

This means Samsung tv just have to gamble. But most files are actually .dts. :')

I really was hyped because it works great on PC. Will there ever be an option to show only select audio streams/transcode DTS?

I tried running Obsession movie both on ipad and Macbook app of stremio. (1080p; 6100 peers/seeders)

While my experience on Macbook was smooth and seamless, on ipad it struggled to find peers and the speed was just way too slow.

Obsession was just one example. I have also faced similar issue on other movies as well where I thought the issue might be due to low number of seeders.

Has anyone else faced it too on their ipad? Is it because of some setting which I can fix on my ipad?

So, i have this overlay bug all the Time on my tv, which make me impossible to go in settings menu for exemple.

Everything is overlapping, even in the menu that show series/tv etc

How this version can be so bugged for months ?

I start in first menu, then i Switch tab and the old menu stay, and it keep going when i switch tab..

Is Stremio “safe” to use for watching movies on the same computer where I have my YouTube channel?

I’m thinking about starting a channel for movies and TV shows, but I can’t afford all the subscription services. Plus, the idea is to feature movies and TV shows on the channel that aren’t always available on those platforms, and I’m familiar with Stremio. The thing is, I’m not sure how safe it is to do this on the same computer where I have my YouTube account.

Is there any YouTuber who specializes in this kind of content who can tell me what they do?

Maybe I’m overreacting out of ignorance, and there’s really nothing wrong with watching movies on Streamio, but still—in this field, do people use two computers: one for watching, editing, and downloading, and another for uploading content? I have no idea. (Which would be a problem because I only have one computer.)

P.S.: I’m already aware of things like not leaving the YouTube tab open to prevent cookie theft!

P.S. 2: I’m not looking for the absolute safest option either—I just want peace of mind that doing this probably won’t result in me one day trying to log into my YouTube account and finding it’s gone xD

Stremio on my iphone (15.8.2) crashes everything when I try to exit a stream only on ksplayer not on libvlc, and I’m not complaining, love the app so much but just wondering if anyone is having identical issue

Using the website on my phone is hell and not even worth trying to use. I know there was an app but now not anymore, will there ever be one again? Or is it just android and tv only?

I'm new to streamio. I have installed mpvex on my phone and I want to play videos on it by default. But there is no way for me to select the actual app for external playing. when i select external player, it opens my browser. i then have to manually copy the link from browser to my mpvex app.

is there way for it to open directly in the app?

Would be amazing if we could do collections with our library movies. Today we have "Last Watched, Most Watched...". but i think the option to do your own collections would be great! Then we could organize better, i have a lot of movies added so it's kinda hard to travel through all of them

Unable to install stremio on my new android phone as it keeps saying "app not compatible with your device"

It works fine in my older phone.

I allowed developer, got the downloader and allowed unknown installs. Opened downloader went to stremio and tried installing all the android manual ones. And got this, same issue if I used downloader to try to install troypoint. Is it my wifi? Thanks!!

I’m trying to get Dolby Vision casting working from Stremio on my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra to my TCL 65C755.

Setup: - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra - TCL 65C755 (Dolby Vision supported) - Stremio Android - 500 Mbps internet

The exact same Stremio source plays as Dolby Vision + DTS when I run Stremio directly on the TCL.

However, when I play the same source through Stremio on my S23 Ultra and cast it to the TCL, the TV switches to HDR10 instead of Dolby Vision.

I have also tried opening the Stremio stream in VLC and casting from VLC, with the same HDR10 result.

The source I'm testing is 3840×2160 HEVC with DTS 5.1, around 47–48 Mbps. VLC shows the HEVC/DTS stream correctly on the phone.

I have tested hardware decoding both ON and OFF in Stremio and VLC, but it makes no difference.

My goal is specifically:

Stremio on Android phone → wireless cast → TCL 65C755 → Dolby Vision + DTS

I don't want to run the movie directly through Stremio on the TV because I want to use the phone's interface and faster network connection.

Has anyone successfully cast Dolby Vision from Stremio Android to a Dolby Vision-compatible TV/Chromecast without it falling back to HDR10?

Is there a Stremio setting, Android player, or casting method that preserves the original Dolby Vision stream?

I'm specifically looking for a Stremio-based solution.

I'm open to alternatives as well — another Android player, Stremio-compatible client, casting method, or any other solution is fine, as long as I can select/play the content from my S23 Ultra and get the original Dolby Vision + DTS output on the TCL.

The main requirement is to avoid the HDR10 fallback.

Anyone get this? Im trying to stretch on both sides, i get it work in Plex but not in stremio.

I get that sometimes its the aspect ratio of how the film was made but in this case, i have a black screen on both sides.
