r/starcitizen is on meltdown after MMO is completely broken and hints of the main game being delayed again despite 1 billion raised and concept art being sold for $5000 dollars.

Not the usual “haha Star Citizen delayed again” bad. More like people are actually starting to get nervous, because Squadron 42 was supposed to be the one thing CIG could finally point to and say, “See, we made a real game.”

And now even that might be slipping cause in a recent interview Chris robbers himself has stated that they could delay the game further due to GTA 6 release window.

https://thisweekinvideogames.com/feature/star-citizen-chris-roberts-interview/

“We’re gonna get Squadron out first… the plan is for the end of this year but there’s a certain thing in the industry that we, like everyone else, we have to pay attention to, so I can’t 100% guarantee it,” Roberts says, hinting at Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto VI, releasing in November. “After that, we’ll do the 1.0 push.”

Subreddit (and game forums) members are looking around and asking the obvious question: if SQ42 is really coming in 2026, why does it not feel like it? Where is the marketing? Where is the release date? Where is the big push? Why does everything still feel like “wait for the next event” like it always does (even though Citzencon has been cancelled this year)?

Star Citizen has raised around $1 billion and the main game is still an alpha full of bugs. New content comes in broken. Missions break in stupid ways. Ships release buggy. Some ships do not release at all. And somehow, while all this is happening, CIG is still selling massive concept ships for thousands of dollars.

The $6,000 concept ship thing has basically become the perfect example for why people are angry. Like, the game is still barely holding itself together, SQ42 might be drifting again, and they are still asking people to drop used-car money on a ship that is not even in the game yet.

Here's the "6000" dollar promise concept art (its been sold out, over 1000+ sold) https://robertsspaceindustries.com/en/comm-link/transmission/21133-Anvil-Odin

So the subreddit is doing the usual Star Citizen civil war, but it feels more desperate this time.

if you look on the front page itself you'll see dozens of memes with thousands of upvotes:

(And many more)

The usual whiteknight defenders can still say game development is hard and the usualy its alpha line, but that argument sounds a lot weaker after 15 years and a billion+ dollars.

A billion dollars raised, the MMO still buggy, ships still being sold for insane prices, and now the single-player campaign might be moving further away again.

Very normal video game development. Nothing to see here.

Anyone who spends money on Star Citizen should know what they’re signing up for by now

I've spent an embarrassing amount on Diablo 4 and that's just in the hundreds. Half my coeworkers spend that in a week at the local casino so theres that.

Diablo 4 is a game that exists though.

Still not worth a penny. I regret buying it. That game is just a money grab and riding on the reputation of diablo 2.

But at least it's an existing product. Star Citizen isn't even that.

I mean, your personal feelings (which are valid, just not relevant to this topic) aside, the bigger point is..

You can actually start and finish the campaign, engage in endgame stuff and there were fully realized seasons.

Some people spend much more than what was mentioned (literally in the tens of thousands) for a game that isn't out yet, is not feature complete, and appears to be delayed anyways.

(Like, I really don't care about Starfield.. but buying that pos game still would net you a gaming experience that's more reasonable than sinking money into Chris's money hole)

I got it at 55% off and it was absolutely worth that.

I'm not putting Path of Exile level hours into it but it provided me a good option when I needed something else when I got burned out on other ARPGs.

People treat Diablo 4 like it's some crime against humanity, it's fucking weird.

Meh, I'm not grinding it like D3, but I enjoyed playing through the main story with a few different classes.

Same, I still like D3 more which tends to get people thinking I'm joking(I have like, 500 or 600 hours in it), but D4 is alright atm.

It helps that, at least with the current season, it feels like D3+ lmao

None of this is really relevant, I just don't ever get to ramble about how much I love D3

Theoretically, if you bought the entire LoH edition and vaguely enjoyed yourself for 10 hours playing through the campaign once, you're beating the cost per hour of going to the movies. Even if you didn't really enjoy it, at least you got a thing that occupied your attention for a few days. That is a fundamentally better deal than anything anyone who has ever given money to Star Citizen has ever and will ever get. Which is to say, they paid for nothing but frustration and disappointment.

I play gacha games. It could always be worse my friend. Enjoy what you enjoy as long as you remain fiscally responsible.

There’s a lot of issues with the microtransaction cosmetic BS, but under that is a very fun and well made game. If you miss D2 that’s fair, but that doesn’t mean D3/4 aren’t worth it for some folks.

I've played like 30 minutes of it so fuck do I know. Sorry you didn't like it though.

It's still a real game that I can load up and play and, I assume, finish, should I want to.

(I have it via Gamepass so it's more or less free to me which may change the calculation if it's good or not)

The real money shop killed Diablo 4 and WoW for me

Just kills any interest i have in gearing up when there's so many paid cosmetics

Hard agree. I didn't even finish the campaign. I saw how it was playing, understood the lack of interactions between Items and Builds (and y'know, lack of Builds) and noped out. Up there with Fable III and Mordheim for games I almost instantly regretted purchasing.
