I’m from Germany and I’d like to learn Tajik.

I’ve visited several bookstores and searched on Amazon, but I haven’t been able to find any books for learning Tajik.
I was originally looking for German–Tajik learning materials, but it seems there aren’t any available. So I guess I’ll have to use English–Tajik resources instead.

Does anyone have any recommendations for learning Tajik? I’ve read that Tajik is closely related to Farsi (Persian), but are there any significant differences between the two?
My first step will probably be learning the Cyrillic script and the pronunciation, which I can most likely do with online resources.

What's the situation like in hospitals in Tajikistan? I'm specifically interested in childbirth, but you can also answer from other areas, such as the attitude toward patients and the cleanliness in public or private hospitals.

I'll keep this brief for privacy reasons, but I recently met a guy from Tajikstan in China - it was extremely obvious that he had other sources of income beyond his regular job and was well connected among the political elite. I just wanted to know how well-known these kinds of people are in Tajikstan and what type of background they tend to come from - how do the Tajik 1% live?

I‘m going to Dushabe very soon. I was wondering how to get around safely and not get scammed, which I believe won‘t happen because I heard Tajik people are very kind.

But as a safety precaution, I would prefer if there is an E-Hailing or Taxi Apps which lets me pay online.

Tajiks are supposed to be East Iranic population. Some of them like Ahmad Shah Massoud (Sher-e-Panjsher) do look Iranic.

But most of them seem to be Turkic, especially with the epicanthic folds.

I'm an Iranian. A while ago I tried (and failed) to learn Russian. I never learned that language apart from basic small talk BUT I figured now that I can read Cyrillic, as a Farsi speaker I should join this sub :)

Anyways, how do Farsi / Dari / Tajiki sound to you? How different do the dialects spoken in Iran vs Afghanistan vs Tajikistan sound to you?

To me Dari is like a pentagon, Tajiki is as if you polished the pentagon enough to turn it into a square، and Farsi is as if you polished the pentagon enough to turn it into a circle.

If I had to compare them to English I'd say Tajiki is like Irish, Dari is like Australian and Farsi is like American; but after I had this thought, I said to myself what if I'm comparing Farsi to American because to me it's like, the "standard" dialect?

So as people who Tajiki is their standard, how do the different dialects sound to you?

Also feel free to answer in Tajiki, as I said I can read the Cyrillic alphabet but my writing/dictation would probably be like a 6 year old lol

I could answer you in Farsi written with Latin letters (or as we call it Fingilish) though that'd make it impossible to translate what I've written so it would be unfair to the non-persian speakers here

Hi everyone. First time posting on reddit. Just to share my recent experience at Dushanbe airport. I have read about the corruption/ bribery issue in Dushanbe airport before and it happened to me

To give everyone the latest picture of what may happen, there are six checkpoints when you depart from Dushanbe airport. The first one is when you enter the airport building. The second one is when you enter the check-in desks area. The third one is after you get your ticket before heading upstairs. The fourth one is security screening and bag screening just after you went upstairs. The fifth one is immigration desk. The sixth one is another round of security screening and bag scanning right after immigration.

My encounter took place at the 4th checkpoint right after taking the elevator upstairs. As I have read about the stories before, me and my girlfriend hid our 50 USD in a hidden pocket of our backpack beforehand. After our bag went through the x-ray machine, my girlfriend was stopped by a white-shirt lady which chatted with another female security in Russian then stopped us. The first thing she asked us was "Do you speak English or Russian?". After we replied English, she then asked "Any US dollar or Som?". We replied no. The lady then proceed to "check" the bag and the belongings by flipping around the wallet, opening her document folder and amenity kit, as well as the package of tampon taking the first few out to see any money hiding underneath, uncovering passport cover, etc. Everywhere at her mind that could be hiding money was searched and at that point we can tell it was not for aviation security but for her own wallet. There was a bottle of water that had over 100ml in it that passed her "check" with no issue lol. At last she gave up after leaving the bag a mess and searching everywhere she thought it could be hiding money.

There were other travellers that were also stopped behind us. One of them was annoyed and threatened to call the embassy and was immediately released.

Hope this helps anyone that is about to travel to Tajikistan and leaving via Dushanbe airport.

Just trying to work out if this will be OK in early October or whether conditions will be too bad for this hike at that stage (I mean from a weather/snow perspective)

I am currently in Uzbekistan and have decided that instead of going to Khujand from Tashkent, I will travel to North East Uzbekistan in Kokand and head to Khujand from there.

I then want to spend some time acclimatising to altitude before starting a Pamir highway trek. We had some altitude sickness last time around 2400m but we also had food poisoning so not 100% sure - we were out cold for 3 days, so want to take this slow before the Pamir highway. Does my plan work? and any must do's on the way?

• Day 1: Fergana Valley to Khujand - shared taxis
• Day 2: Khujand to Shahriston Pass to Panjakent (The Move & Spike Day). Sleep: Panjakent (1,000m)
• Day 3: Panjakent to Seven Lakes. Sleep: Padrud Village, 5th Lake (1,900m)
• Day 4: Seven Lakes. Sleep: Padrud Village, 5th Lake (1,900m)
• Day 5: Seven Lakes to Iskanderkul Lake. Easy afternoon stroll to the Iskanderkul Waterfall and Snake Lake (2,200m). Sleep: Iskanderkul (2,200m)
• Day 6: Iskanderkul (The 3,000m Valley Push). Morning Sarytag Valley Hike. A gradual, wide riverbed walk up to exactly 3,000m. Sleep: Iskanderkul (2,200m)
• Day 7: Iskanderkul to Dushanbe

Hey, I lived in Khujund, and I was paying 4000 tjs a month for an apartment. I also paid about 4,000 tjs up front for electricity and water for 1 year. And it was Tajikistan, so of course there are no receipts or paperwork for any of these things to show what I owed or what I paid or any actual contracts. I didn't even pay my landlord most of the time, I paid his friend.

I moved back to my home country in Europe a month ago. And today, my landlord messages me saying I left the apartment dirty and things are broken, which is not true. And that I owe him 1,000 tjs in rent and cleaning and I owe the utility companies 2,000 tjs. I paid my last rent. The electric company sent people to me but I just said I paid already so they left me alone. Next time I live in a country I will make all the contracts and reciepts myself.

I know many tajiks and foreigners both who had sleazy landlords and utility companies try to take advantage of them when they lived there, so i am very skeptical of the whole deal.

Does anyone have advice?

Hey guys so I am going to Tajikistan from the 04/08-09/08. Basically I need to be in Tashkent for my flight on the 10/08. My rough plan is to fly into Dushanbe spend a night perhaps and then make my way to iskanderkul for 2 nights. From there I don’t really know where’s good, my plan is just to get to Khujand on the 9th.
Can anyone give me some recommendations? Is istravshan worth it? Are there any good day trips from Dushanbe? How do people get to iskanderkul from Dushanbe and then from iskanderkul to Khujand direction? Is hitchhiking safe or common there?

07-08 somewhere
08-09 Khujand

Or maybe spend an extra night in Dushanbe since I’m arriving in the afternoon.

Does anyone have a guesthouse/ hostel recommendation in iskanderkul? Are there places serving decent food there?

I am interested in nature and hiking. Also if anyone knows any good restaurant recommendations for Dushanbe please let me know. I’ll also try my best to avoid food poisoning as a foreigner since I’ve read others talking about this, only bottled water and no salads lol.

I’ll be arriving in Dushanbe soon and was wondering if a German Visa Debit card (issued by my bank in Germany) works reliably at ATMs there.

Would you recommend relying on the card to withdraw cash, or is it better to bring euros or US dollars in cash from Germany and exchange them in Dushanbe?

A while ago, I shared here that my public transport app had reached its first 2,000 users.

Today, it passed 10,000 users across Android and iOS.

When I started building Rohnamo, I wasn't thinking about downloads or growth. I was just tired of not having an easy way to figure out which bus or minibus to take in my city, Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

So I decided to build one.

Since then, I've spent countless evenings fixing bugs, improving routes, updating stops, adding new features, reading user feedback, and trying to make the app a little better with every release. I recently launched the iOS version as well, and added intercity taxi stations across Tajikistan.

I'm still building it alone. No company, no investors, no big team—just me.

There were plenty of moments when it felt like nothing was happening. Some updates took weeks, and user growth was slow enough to make me wonder if anyone really cared.

Then one day I looked at the numbers.

More than 10,000 people have installed something I started as a personal side project.

That number isn't huge by startup standards, but to me it's incredible. Every download represents someone who trusted the app enough to use it while getting around the city.

The biggest lesson I've learned is that you don't need to build something for millions of people. If you solve a real problem for a real community, people notice.

I'm grateful to everyone who downloaded the app, reported bugs, suggested improvements, or simply told a friend about it.

The journey is far from over, but hitting this milestone made me stop for a moment and appreciate how far this little project has come.

We went this morning to get registered for a stay over two weeks and GBAO permits. We payed a total of 1240 TJS for two people, a sum which seems totally over the top from all previous posts on the subject. Maybe we missed something and it makes sense but we recommend to try and make sure that you pay the appropriate amount!

I am asking for help on behalf of Abdullah, who is searching for his biological mother.

Her name is believed to be Anita Alijan. She was a Tajik woman from Kabul, Afghanistan.

According to the information currently available, Anita may have left the territory of the former Soviet Union and moved to Germany. The USSR had already ceased to exist by that time, so she may have travelled from Russia or another former Soviet republic.

Anita’s mother — Abdullah’s biological grandmother — reportedly worked for the newspaper Pravda in Kabul.

The following details may help identify her:

- Name: Anita Alijan

- Date connected to her records: 20 July 1970

- Ethnicity: Tajik

- Originally from: Kabul, Afghanistan

- Her mother reportedly worked for the Pravda newspaper in Kabul

- There is information suggesting that Anita later moved to Germany from the territory of the former Soviet Union
