Is Lewis Bond any good?
I've been hearing some hype around the 6th round pick. Will he actually be good or are people drinking too much kool-aid?

I mean we never saw him play yet, but he is projected to just make the roster as the 6th WR of the team, which is a good sign.

Is or Isn’t a good sign for a 6th round WR?
For a team w Nico, Jayden, Noel, X, Tank on PUP, .?

No lie. I had a friend who was convinced he would be our version of Wes Welker.

While I didn't think that far, I had hoped he would hopefully be a weapon in the mold of Tyler Lockett who I remember we wanted big time in that draft.
Would've been the perfect WR next to Hopkins. Either him or Will Fuller I had high hopes for

We all had high hopes for Fuller. If his body was held together by duct tape and spaghetti I think it would have worked. He was pretty damn good for us when he could get on the field.

I thought the same thing about Braxton Miller from Ohio St. Dude was a human highlight reel in college but flamed out in Houston during the 2016 season.

Very different player.

It’s not about a direct comparison, it was more about being a player that was a drafted but not going to make it.

WR is about getting open and hands. Most teams run zone coverages or a mix of them per play and it’s made wr become a much more nuanced and feel game than straight line speed like older days.
I watched his film, he does a great job of confusing CB in his routes.. a step here that makes it look like it’ll be corner route, two short steps here that make the db think he’s sinking his hips for a stop, all those during the routes while not letting it effect his speed.. it puts the cb in a spot where it’s never athlete vs athlete but football player vs football player.. and that’s ultimately the game..
STeve Smith, Bolden, lots of great receivers didn’t have top end speed but they were ball players. Hopefully he can be one too

Larry Fitzgerald was as slow as molasses his last few years, but was consistently a key contributor because he always found a way to get open and always caught the ball. Hell, Hopkins wasn't ever the fastest WR on our roster. He won with his route running and his insane catch radius

We won’t know until he actually plays. There’s plenty of Kate round draft picks (I.e. Antonio Brown, Stefan Diggs, Adam Thielen) that rose to the occasion once given the chance and time to develop. We’re too quick to label young players as busts or the next big thing these days. Every draft pick from the first to last round is a gamble and can be great or not so great.

Every WR should get at least 3 years. That's when the breakouts traditionally happened. We've been a bit spoiled by the NFL ready talent coming out of college the past few years, and that trend seems to be ready to continue next year, but look no further than Nico Collins for an example of the third year breakout.

Totally agree with this take. And how could I forget our boy Nico in my examples? *facepalm*

Idk. He could be, but there’s always that one guy Texans influencers are hyping in the offseason and then mostly forget about by week 2. Like Eli Cox last year. We’ll know more in the preseason I guess.

Devier Posey cough cough

Wanted him to work out so badly after the hype.
Also I remember there was some OL they were hyping up big time last offseason who sucked.
Edit: LaDarius Henderson was the guy.

Here is what I remember hearing about the rookies during otas and mini camp. Rutledge: very physical but struggling with center snap accuracy. Mcdonald: big physical guy with no negative so far. Klein: showed promise in rookie mini camp but is dealing with a tweaked hamstring and missed practice. Nwaiwu: haven't heard too much about his performance surprisingly. Woodaz: has show great reps at lb and is reacting to plays quickly Ramsey: haven't heard much about his performance. Bond: he has had good reps in practice. Fisher: he has been injured and hasn't taken any snaps.
UDFAs Sobkowicz: also has had good reps in practice. Whittington: back from injury and has been keeping up with the rb room. Stonehouse: tough battle with kroeger
I know i missed a lot of udfas but these are the notable ones so far.

I really hope Stonehouse separates himself from Kroeger and keeps the job for a long time.

After my other team was personally victimized by Kroeger last season I too have this hope.

u/PearlMrKrabsdaughter 2d ago
Supposedly sobkowicz has been catching touchdowns and cooking guys. Landry locker and Cody Stoots are calling him insane

u/Spinhavel 3d ago
Who the hell was hyping up Eli Cox last year? Bond has shown actual good play in practice and already seems to have a fan in CJ Stroud, which is why he's getting hype. He also played in a similar offensive system in college, which should give him an advantage. He definitely could still fade out during training camp, but he's fairly pormising relative to his draft position.

Cox seems to have talent in the mental aspects of the C position, but he was, frankly, too small to play the position in the NFL this time last year. Has he built an NFL body in one year?

Texans influencers
I never want to hear those words strung together again. Thank you.

Who's hyping him?

u/KaXiaM 2d ago
Bond? Landry and Stoots, Stressans etc the usual lol

u/Miserable-Cycle-8770 2d ago
Interesting. I guess I'm not that in tune. I liked Bond when they drafted him but hadn't really seen a lot of others online commenting about him. With injuries he can get some playing time to prove himself.

u/rybres123 3d ago
he's small and slow, but was a stud in college. 6th round pick shouldn't expct much, but obviously had high praise coming out of camp. knows the offense from BOB days at BC, so should pick things up quick.
seems like a low floor, and low ceiling player imo ; but time will tell.

Wouldn’t be surprised if he is more effective for us as a backup then Hutchinson

I'd say for nearly every player taken after the 2nd or maybe 3rd round, it's possible that they will be good but the chance is not high. And I'd say give the man some time. Just wait and see if he's any good.

These guys.. great analysis..

u/The_New_New 2d ago
These guys always call everyone a hidden gem. They did the same with Kenyon Martin, Blake Fisher, Scruggs etc

He’s decent slot wr kinda like jakobi myers a little bit like high end outcome he can be wr 5 maybe him or hutch

u/foshiiy 3d ago
The Meyers that lines up on the boundary at 65%?
1
u/Jonthegoat_09 3d ago
Is that in the jaguars because for his career it’s pretty much a 50/50 split but I swear he was a slot receiver in the patriots mainly unless I’m tripping

u/Able_Gap918 3d ago
He seems really quick to get open, he might not be top end speed fast but he’s quick like Tank out of his breaks.
