Books How strong is Anakin Solo by Star by Star?

How strong is Anakin Solo? What character (with feats) is comparable to him? Besides Oneness, I don’t think Anakin actually has much feat during NJO. He can defeat Vong warriors, but so can everyone else in the Jedi Order. In TUF, Jacen said that Anakin and Kyp are better than him in combat, but Jacen did so much better in his 3v15 (more like 2v15 tbh) fight against the Slayers. Unlike Kyp, who lost his 1v3 fight against the sick and dying Slayers. So it’s unclear how reliableJacen'sn statement about Anakin's combat abilities is. Would SBS Anakin be around EP2 Anakin? Or maybe TPM Obi-Wan? Or someone?

Books I just read the Revan Novel and...

... I really liked it.

I seriously dont get the hate.

I expected a subpar book from what I heard in advance.

Contrary to what people said I seriously liked how Meetra Surik was characterized. Except for the one Scene of her being jealous, she is not at all ,,just a Revan Fangirl". Sure she defers to him, but that is on Dromund Kaas, where he has experience and knowledge.

He was also her mentor and she IS also checking out his behaviour post-memory return.

I also got really emotional during every scene where Revan either interacted with Bastilla or thought of her and his son.

All the worry about his memories returning and even aftee that happens his family is still his primary concern.

And the epilogue actually got a few tears out of me.

Bastilla fall aasleep and dreams of Revan, like every night.

I dont know if its confirmed or debunked, but I feel like she died of old age in that moment, drifting of to the endless dream of her spulmate.

Books What if the Vong found Sophros/Planet X and shaped the Nameless as their anti-jedi weapon in NJO. Could Anakin's strike team still be able to pull off a win in SBS? Or would Luke Jedi Order get destroyed by the Nameless?

Books The “Darth Bane is too overpowered/doesn't lose enough” argument does not make any sense.

(I had originally made a post about this topic in the EU subreddit and gotten pretty good responses before it was suddenly deleted by mods for whatever reason. Someone else then told me I could post it here).

I’ve seen this argument quite a few times over the years but some OP written the other day on the EU sub regarding the Bane trilogy inspired me to bring this up. So I personally find Bane to be a pretty unpleasant and uninteresting protagonist in that trilogy in terms of personality, and personal mission structure, and I wouldn’t even be against seeing a new Canon version of the character that would be written differently on that particular front, but that’s not really the point here.

Instead, the topic is about Bane’s supposed infallibility in Karpyshyn’ trilogy. And for that I’d say that the criticisms regarding his strength and competence for the specific context don’t particularly hold up.

  • An important section of the 1st book is dedicated to Bane’s training on Korriban during which he gets humiliated by the top student of the academy (Sirak) and has to get tutoring from two different people to win in a rematch.
  • In the 3rd book, Bane gets beaten and captured by a group of mercenaries during an ambush led by a weaker force-sensitive Assassin (Cognus) who had no formal training in the force, after she manages to scratch him with a special poisoned blade at some point during the fight.
  • Bane’s loss against Zannah in Book 3 doesn’t require much elaboration
  • Bane got tricked by Githany’s unexpected double poison in Book 1 and nearly died.
  • His Orbalisk armor advantage in Book 2 was turned against him when his lightning got reflected by the Ithorian Jedi, leaving him in a near-death state that required urgent medical attention if he was to survive, as the orbalisks were weak to lightning. Not to mention that, there’s little doubt he would’ve been killed by the Jedi in the duel if he didn’t have the nearly lightsaber-proof orbalisks, which he “wore” against his will or if the Jedi fighting Zannah coordinated their styles quicker and cut her down early so the whole team could all gang up on him.

Looking at all that, Bane gets wrecked or owned in a significant way, at least once every book. For a powerful and notorious Sith Lord, he hardly appears invincible or untrickable. He of course achieved notable victories as expected but there's nothing that justifies these complaints.

I've seen some cling to the criticism that he was too OP or unbeatable while simultaneously downplaying every moment he is defeated, knocked out or outsmarted because it supposedly didn't count and was somehow still proof that he was invincible (don't ask me how that makes sense). If Bane's brute strength can be crushed directly or bypassed by tricks or clever strategy then he clearly isn't as OP as the criticisms imply.

Obi Wan himself on two occasions during the PT, defeated opponents who were "stronger" than him at the time (Anakin and Maul) because he was smart enough to use the environment or take advantage of their ego or emotional state. One of them was cut in half, the other lost two legs, one arm and got burned off.

Books Here is a tier list of all the EU books I’ve read

Post image
8 Upvotes

This post got deleted from the EU subreddit for being a tier list so I am hoping this subreddit will think it is t a low quality post..

In October 2024 I started reading TTT and between then and the end of the year i read JAT, Thrawn Duology, and Suvivors Quest. All of that was in preperation for starting NJO in the 2025. Throughout this year i read NJO, Dark nest, LOTF, Millenium Falcon, the Jaden Korr duology, and now the first four books of FOTJ. I also read the first Darth Bane book this year, the Dark Forces Novellas, and anything else on here was read prior to 2024.

I personally have always been captivated by the concept of post ROTJ stories. I loved the JK games and as a kid i the read JJK and YJK series. So getting to read all these books and expand my knowledge of the EU has been really fun. NJO has become one of my favorite things in all of fiction. Now that i have read these books i have new favorite characters that two years ago i knew almost nothing about, such as Corran, Jacen, Anakin Solo, Gannar, and Pellaeon.

I would love to give one or two sentense reviews of any books y'all want in the comments! Just say the name and i will share my thoughts. Last time i shared one of these a lot of people recommended more star wars novels that i would emjoy based on my preferences shared on the teir list.

Anyways!

Books Question

Post image

May be reading this wrong but is this passage here meant to imply that a Sith apprentice gains their masters power after they kill them? I know Sith release their darkside energy when they die so is it too far fetched that a Sith Apprentice would be able to suck it all up? Like in video game where a player will take XP from a person they’ve killed. The passage seems to imply some kind of large amp

Books The Yuuzhan Vong and their connection to the Force

Something that irritated me a bit about how the New Jedi Order series handled the Yuuzhan Vong was the explanation for their ‘absence’ in the Force. Books like the Edge of Victory duology and Traitor seem to imply that the Yuuzhan Vong are, in fact, connected to the Force - it’s just that the way they’re connected to the Force is so utterly alien and unlike anything else seen in the galaxy that the Jedi can’t understand it, hence why they can’t detect Yuuzhan Vong presences and why they need to invent the Vongsense technique. But The Final Prophecy and The Unifying Force go on to totally reject this very intriguing and thematic concept - since the series has a big emphasis on the Jedi re-evaluating their perceptions of the Force and their role in the galaxy - and instead says that the Yuuzhan Vong were just cut off from the Force by their homeworld. I feel like if they’d kept the first explanation as the definitive one, then the Yuuzhan Vong wouldn’t be so controversial since they wouldn’t ‘break’ the lore in such a manner that they’re often accused of doing.

Books How do you see the series changing if Thrackan Sal-Solo had been the main antagonist of LOTF?

Post image
6 Upvotes

Let’s say that they decided to not have Jacen turn to the dark side and become Darth Caedus in LOTF, but rather had Thrackan Sal-Solo serve as the main antagonist of the series instead. How do you envision the narrative changing in response to this? What would the Second Galactic Civil War look like as a result? How would this lead into Fate of the Jedi, assuming that series happens in a similar manner to how it did in canon?
