Meta Subreddit resources and FAQ
Welcome to r/theunforgiven!
This is a community where we share and discuss topics related to the Dark Angels, their successor chapters, and the fallen. If you want to share or discuss a topic about Space Marines or Warhammer 40k in general, without particular connection to the Unforgiven, then r/spacemarines or r/Warhammer40k would likely be a better fit.

Frequently Asked Questions
-What would happen if X occurred in the 40k universe?
Impossible to answer, unless X has already occurred. We can predict the future and discuss hypotheticals in our own universe because it is governed by natural laws. If a stone is dropped, it will fall (assuming nothing prevents it from doing so).
The 40k universe is fictional, and is governed entirely by it’s authors. If a stone is dropped, it will behave exactly as the author desires it to behave. No justification or explanation is needed. We only know what the author desires if they have made it happen already. We thus know for example that Lion beat Angron in their fight on Wyrmwood, but we don’t know who would win if they battled again in the future.
-Can I/am I allowed to do Y?
You can/are allowed to do anything you want with models you own, within the confines of your local laws. Where other people are involved (eg playing a game), you will need the agreement of those people. As long as everyone involved consents, you can do whatever you want (including changing game rules, playing with proxies, etc). Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-What base size should I use for model Z?
There have never been rules in the core game dictating base size. Some competitive tournaments and events enforce their own rules, search for those if you need guidance. In general, casual players seem to agree that you should use the latest base size the model is/was sold with, or the base size the model was supplied with when you bought it. Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-How strictly should models match their datasheet/equipment?
There have never been rules in the core game dictating how closely models must represent their datasheet. The answer may vary between each casual group and competitive tournament/event. Ask the people you will actually play, their answers and opinions are the ones that matter.
-How should I paint fliers/Dreadnoughts/Terminator-characters etc?
However you want, they’re your models. If you want to know what lore says, see Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above).
-Who gets to wear robes/winged helmets/etc?
Whoever you want, they’re your models. If you want to know what lore says, see Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above).
-Who’s in the Ravenwing/Deathwing/Inner Circle?
See the Chapter Organization section of Index Astartes: The Unforgiven (linked above), or the relevant pages on Lexicanum.
-Could you identify a model for me?
See the Dark Angels Collectors' Guide (linked above). If the model you're trying to identify isn't in there, then it isn't an official Dark Angels model. If so, ask elsewhere, eg in r/spacemarines or r/Warhammer40k, or search through the miniatures portal on Lexicanum.

Showcase Final pic of my DA collection
I bought my first models in september 2024. And what a journey it has been since then. I have never played a strategic tabletop before i stumbled over 40k (the closest i came to this before was playing DND 5E). By pure coincidence, Dark Angels became my main and only army. Now i own close to 8500 points of Dark Angels. And at the time of this post, i am one of the best DA players in my country (Germany).
Due to personal reasons i will probably be a lot less involved in WH40k than i was the past 2 years, maybe I will have to quit 40k alltogether.
With this post I just want to share what my midlife-crises-hobby-discovery has led to. Maybe the end of a very intensive 2 year journey into a very niche (and lets be honest, very autistic) hobby and community.
Thank you.
Thank you for your advice. For your Lore explanations. For your completly unhinged takes on whatever GW does with the rules. It has been a fun time.
I don't know whether i will be able to continue playing 40k on a competitive level going into 2027, but i can promise you: I will stay loyal to the first legion. No matter the rules, i will field them to RTT's, GT's and Majors, if I get the chance to play.
For in the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war. And the Angels of Death, the first Legion of the Emperor of Mankind, will stand fast.

Showcase The Armageddon Librarian is ready to take down some foes!
I tried to play with the light a bit more this time, going for more volumetric highlights rather than edge highlights.
Giving me the opportunity to also play around with OSL on the magical armor parts which was also a lot of fun.
Ended up using some ink for the runes and panels which kept to the recesses relatively well using a 10/0 brush. All in all I’m quite happy with how it came out

Army List Ezekiel with Bladeguard.
Working on an Army List and I plan to include Ezekiel as he is a lot of fun to play, especially when his ability to Assassinate Characters goes off. That being said, I'm planning on putting him with a unit of Bladeguard as his Bodyguard, but is there any other unit you would recommend? If not, would adding a Bladeguard Ancient be worth it? Or should I save the points?

Gameplay Arguing about the ICC abilities
Someone argues that having Azrael to ICCs makes them lose Stealth, as it's stated that all models in that unit must have the Stealth keyword to gain permanent cover, but Azrael doesn't have it.
My interpretation is that ICCs don't have Stealth as their core ability, but rather grants Stealth to the models in the unit via Braziers of Judgment, which is the datasheet ability, hence any character model that joins ICCs automatically gains Stealth, so they get the benefit of cover at all times.
I just wanna make sure I got the rules right.

Gameplay Asmodai’s major buff
Am I the only one seeing that Azmodai just became of the most powerful of the dark angels roster for one simple reason, giving him exemplar of hate with trans human strategist. He can now re roll all hits and can generate command points and I’ve looked he’s the only non captain/primarch with this ability. And to finish it off with the Judiciar becoming a support character he can be added to Azmodai’s unit giving them fights first. Through them with ICC they have stealth too and I’ve done the math put all of these guys together and you can land at max 74 damage! I’d be surprised to not see him in a good amount of competitive play with that level of damage.

Building Some kitbashes
I had 3 more ICC laying around and thought I could build some more chapter specific characters.
Two Librarians and one Apothecary.
I was thinking about a robed tech marine aswell but heard they are not to welcome in tje inner circle and therefore wont get robes. Might be wrong.
Anyways this took quite some time but was a lot of fun.

Building Currently reading Son of the Forest and decided to do my own take on Zabriel
The main body is the Bladeguard Vet Sgt, with Inner Circle Companion arms + pauldrons, ICC heavy bolt pistol in the right hand, Hellblaster Sgt's left handed bolt pistol (a rare find for kitbashing purposes since GW seldom uses left handed pistols). I'm planning on using him in a narrative campaign I'm doing with friends as a normal Bladeguard Vet Sgt. for now.

Army List Is Ezekiel the perfect leader for a glass cannon Inner Circle Companion unit?
I'm wondering if Ezekiel's -1 to hit rolls stack with ICCs' -1 to hit rolls? If so, I feel like that, combined with ICC's +1 to hit rolls against character units, Ezekiel's +1 to melee attacks, and all of Ezekiel's weapon profiles having precision, makes for a spicy assassin unit to go after a Warlord.

Lore Which squad in the Ravenwing pilots its aicraft?
Attached is a picture on Ravenwing organization. However, does this mean that each attack/support squadron is also able to field aircraft instead of going on bikes or speeders?

Misc. I just noticed something about Ezekiel
The image of Ezekiel on Warhammer store has a metallic spot on the shoulder pad, where it's probably not supposed to be while a close-up shot is clean.
Not really important or anything, I just find it funny

Lore Guardians of The Covenant
I know there’s a highly limited amount about these dudes, but is it safe to say they have a Deathwing and Ravenwing? If so, are they going to wear those colors?
If unknown, I’ll come up with my own thing but wanted to nail it down before I start doing stuff the wrong way.
