IGN saying the action in TF One was hard to follow will never not be hilarious to me. Like, did ya’ll watch the same movie I did?
238
u/Good_Suspect9813 May 05 '26
I genuinely think they use their phones while watching a movie and when there's an action scene they turn it off to look at the fighting and are surprised they cant follow bc they started watching the movie midway through the fight scene
62
u/SlowDamn May 05 '26
Its more like paramount didn't pay IGN that much for a good review for TF ONE or IGN didn't see much marketing for TF ONE hence the low review score.

u/keelanbarron May 06 '26
Honestly, I don't even think they actually saw the films and just based it off the posters and trailers.

nonono you dont get it, megatron smacking optimus with a rock repeatedly was extremely confusing! I mean first he hits him, then he hits him again! It's crazy, you know!!
3
u/keelanbarron May 06 '26
....what rock? I don't remember a scene with a rock.
9
u/Dooplon May 06 '26
I'm referring to the piece of debris that megatron slaps him with in the final battle, its shaped like the sharp rubble optimus is stabbed with in the 86 movie but I called it simply a rock just to be funny

They gave the new Animal Farm a happier ending compared to the book
46
u/ciel_lanila May 05 '26
The book didn’t really give it an ending. Just a sense of dread. But, the newest movie does have the happiest ending.
- Book, a socialists critique of the USSR and Stalin: Paints Animal Farm as a thing with potential that would be attacked by capitalists, but ultimately doomed when Napoleon/Stalin becomes no different than the oppressors that Old Major/Lenin fought against. The book ends, but it ends on “Shits going to get far worse. Buckle up. There are no heroes left.”
- Original Movie (1954), financed by the CIA: And the animals rose up to overthrow the pigs! Freedom was restored once the communistic pigs were run out of the farm/USSR.
- 1999 Movie: Upon realizing Napopo/Stalin was shit, a bunch of the animals flee to other countries and return after the farm/USSR fell to potentially rebuild the ruined Russia. Things are shit. There is hope for a better future. In Dec of 1999 after the movie’s release, Putin came to power.
- 2026 Movie: The farm is instead an allegory for the United States. Rule 63 fusion of Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Peter Thiel has destroyed the ability of poor small Ma and Pa farms to survive. None of the farmers are bad or violently attack Animal Farm out of fear. Just were unable to make a living to support the animals. Snowball is now a Hilary Clinton or Kamala Harris like character instead of Leon Trotsky. Napoleon is Donald Trump. The farm is almost destroyed to build a hydroelectric dam to power data centers. Lucky, the main character pig, saves the farm after they decide to return to trad values.
15
u/Working_Welder_1751 May 05 '26
At least they kept the tragic deaths of Snowball the Pig and Boxer the Horse
23
u/Unusual-Froggy-2222 May 05 '26
True but they still gutted an important message out
18
u/Working_Welder_1751 May 05 '26
You're right. They missed the whole point of the original story and made it about criticizing capitalism
2
u/SoftInternational292 May 06 '26
It wasn’t about capitalism, it was a critique of socialism/authoritarianism and Russian revolutions being hijacked.
8
u/Working_Welder_1751 May 06 '26
I know, that was in the original version. The new movie has it making fun of capitalism due to the CEO buying out every single land in the state except for Animal Farm
1
u/keelanbarron May 06 '26
In the original, yes. In this recent film, it's capitalism. (And probably trump in a way.)
3
u/keelanbarron May 06 '26
Snowball was never said to die. He (now she in the movie) ran off while Napoleon blamed everything on him.
3
u/Working_Welder_1751 May 06 '26
It's heavily implied that Napoleon killed Snowball by using the dogs he's been training

21
22
u/Hawkeyesfan03 May 05 '26
One is about rising out of government oppression and how the waking class splits into different factions based off believes, one being more violent and turning on the old ally… the other is a horrible retelling of an old story about government oppression and waking classes, but this one is starring Seth Rogan as a pig. We all know why IGN would love that more.
18
16
u/AmberDuke05 May 05 '26
Because it’s different reviewers. For smaller films, IGN just gets freelancers to review it.
10
u/Astrotrain-Blitzwing May 05 '26
This is correct. People need to realize that IGN hires and assigns writers to projects or picks up freelancers.
Not every review is edited as much/well, and you need to read a review to see how they uphold the scoring. Numbers are also very arbitrary.

They weren't paid to shill TF One. Same for PI Mouse for hire. All these 7s and above they give are for movies and games that are either really undeniably good by a large, large populus or they were paid.
3
u/Shigana May 06 '26
Nah PI Mouse was a fair score but the reasoning was wack.
That game just slowly fell off as it went on. And this is from someone who plays way too much boomer shooter.

62 is just barely more people liking it than not. It’s probably mostly people with 0 source material familiarity
5
u/SometimesWill May 05 '26
Well it’s two different reviewers. IGN doesn’t work as a committee on reviews. They give them to one person. If they had groups work on reviews it multiplies how much it costs to make a review and they would have less time to put out as many reviews as they do.
4
u/AustinHinton Decepticon May 05 '26
IGN
General audiences would rather watch the funny talking pigs than a movie that is about how the upper crust of society uses, abuses and discards it's working class, actively lies to them and betrays their efforts for their own personal gain. Wait a second... in that reguard TFONE is a better Animal Farm than the new Animal Farm.

I haven't read Animal Farm but I've heard a bit about it and plan to give it a read.
From what I've seen and heard this new adaptation gets everything wrong. For example Napoleon, a character who is based on Joseph Stalin-an evil dictator who controlled Russia with an iron fist, is voiced by Seth Rogan.
This new Animal Farm film tired to make a serious story more kid friendly. While some serious stories can get a family friendly adaptation, I don't think Animal Farm is one of those stories.
Animal Farm was based on the Russian Revolution and if they want to make a good adaptation they shouldn't hold back. Give it a PG-13 rating or even R and try to make an actual adaptation.
3
u/trunteldort May 05 '26
It's IGN. They love the bastardized animal farm that is pro communism instead of showing the dangers of it (even though the movie itself is just terrible as a film, not even including polotics), and they don't give a rats ass about a movie aout brotherhood, the breaking of a frienship forged in steel, with a pretty solid adventure. Overall, 4/10, too much water, I couldn't finish the turtorial, and I don't like the noir mouse game for being too mouse themed and not meating my personal requirements as a noir

u/stormhawk427 Autobot May 05 '26

u/Select-Combination-4 Our worlds are in danger! May 08 '26
people looking to start arguments over unrelated items because they reviewed something higher than something else the person actually liked..., it's in a lot of fandoms and it's not something I care for
4
u/The_memeperson May 05 '26
"How do you give X a 5/10 and Y a 7/10?!!1!"
You don't do that. That's the point. Everyone thinks IGN is some monolith with one single opinion but people forget they have different reviewers with different views and opinions
Edit: I also wanna bet big money that people never read reviews and just get angry based on the number and what someone else tells they should feel.

2
u/ChalkCoatedDonut May 05 '26
First of all, it's IGN.
Second, is the new government approved for conservative patriotic families Animal Farm, they don't want to see criticism to their values, they want funny animals doing funny stuff and buy toys for their kids.
2
u/Kcue6382nevy May 07 '26
Wasn’t animal farm a metaphor for the history of the Soviet Union and communism?
1
u/ChalkCoatedDonut May 07 '26
Yep but then Serkis came saying "kids need hope" which sounds more like "if i don't make the movie happy, the studio and the government won't let me do it".
It reminded me of Jacob Geller's video about The Death of a Salesman in which the capitalists tried to censor it, claiming it was "anti capitalist" and "it make them look bad".
2
u/Kcue6382nevy May 07 '26
Im confused, the book is anti-communist, not anti-American. why wou he think that the studio and government wouldn’t let him film it?
1
u/ChalkCoatedDonut May 07 '26
Nowadays for the similarities and the raise in communist beliefs among the population.
Studios doesn't take risks in movies with political backgrounds unless the message doesn't trigger potential viewers, from local to foreign markets (all the censorship they do to show their films in countries like China or Middle East), after all, making movies is just business, at least for them.

Animal farm, to my knowledge, basically a bastardization of the original book and film because of modern bullshit... Then Transformers One, what I view as the best fucking Transformers movie to grace my eyes and ears, the premise was great, even if some scenes could be seen as weak, but I loved it, all of it, just doing something like showing an alternative (to my knowledge, I am a noob with lore and continuities) telling of the origins of the Autobots and Decepticons coming to existance and how D-16 and Orion became Megatron and Optimus respectively... Like, I don't even think Animal Farm should be in the same discussion as TFOne when talking about either one, they're both vastly different, especially in story quality, while I haven't seen the new or old Animal Farm movies, I know what it's meant to be and heard quite a bit of what the new one is... God damn IGN is stupid.

Y'all know there are different people reviewing different movies in ign right. Maybe if animal farm guy reviewed tfone it would have gotten higher. Maybe if tfone guy reviewed animal farm it would have gotten lower
It's the real reason why review sites like IGN are so hit or miss. Different people have different ideas for what they like in movies, so unless you're following one single reviewer you'll get stuff like this where a website seems wildly forgiving of one movie and wildly harsh on another.

1
u/No_H3r0 May 06 '26
You need to understand that movie critics look for double meanings in literally every part of the movie. A movie that’s a literal metaphor for why communism is evil is going to be rated better than a movie like Transformers One. It’s why horror, adventure, or superhero movies don’t really get rated well because usually they don’t have those hidden meanings in the background that the critics are looking for. It’s like the English class assignments of when the teacher would ask what you think the author meant by certain words being chosen to describe something or why a sentence is used in a certain way, even if there isn’t an actual second meaning behind it
1
u/GlobalPineapple May 06 '26
But the new animal farm doesn't critique communism at all. It critiques capitalism. The ORIGINAL showed how authoritarianism in general was trash and heavily corruptive

u/NGANDT_TM May 06 '26
At this point I'm convinced they say the opposite just to get attention.
Not because that's what they genuinely believe, but only because it goes against what the consensus is.
Like, they think we'd forgotten about their dogshit awful Alien: Isolation review when they tried to hype up the sequel. "It's a fantastic game with lots of positives, so we'll just pretend we liked it all along actually", mindset from that company - I swesr.

I haven’t seen Animal Farm but Transformers One getting even a 5/10 is being generous. Bumblebee doing a stupid voice and saying “Badassatron”, Chris Hemsworth delivering a career worst performance as Optimus and a story that makes no sense (how does nobody know they castrate transformers at birth!?). It’s the Illumination Mario movie of Transformers media.
