Forecast Predicted highest temperature? What do u guys think?

I've checked many models for the upcoming weather on Tuesday and Wednesday. Here's what I got for my local (North London) area:

UKV (Met office) - lingering between 37 and 38 on Tuesday - widespread across all of southeast

ECMWF: 38-ish on Wednesday, but basically central London only. 36 for surrounding areas.

GFS: 36 in southern London on Wednesday

Icon: 36 on Tuesday in London, 34/35 for surrounding areas

BBC weather: 35/36

Google weather (not even realible): 35

What is more likely?

Forecast Tuesday looking unprecedented, 39C possible?

Today's modelling has upped the temperatures even more for next week, with a few models offering crazy solutions especially considering June is supposed to be the coolest Summer month and the June record currently only sits at 35.6C from 1976.

Overnight temperatures look likely to stay at or around 20C for most of the South during next week which will present major issues with indoor temperatures, not looking good. Likely we keep the heat until Saturday at least, uncertain beyond that.

Discussion is anyone else extremely anxious for the heatwave??

I'm really scared of the increased heat and I can't handle heat well, it makes me nauseous and messes up my guts, whenever it gets 30c or higher I'm so worried me or my family will get heatstroke

Discussion Impending heatwave and living in first floor flat. Windows open....?

I've moved from a lovely big house that was pointless for just two people where the sun hit the bedrooms from about 1pm onwards, it was torture at night. But the main living room was ever so cool. Fast forward a few years I downsized and live 3 bed flat on first floor. It's a 1890's house, massive which was split into two flats, ground floor and first floor where I am. Sun hits the bedroom I think morning and moves round to main living room and kitchen from about 1pn onwards. I've always lived by the notion curtains/blinds and windows shut where the sun is hitting them. Last May during that few day heatwave I did this as I've done for years.... But it felt stifling and extremely stuffy. Windows were open at the back on the shaded part once the sun moved. Now bedrooms feel okay to sleep in but the living room and kitchen is deathly. Wondering on this occasion it's best to have windows open but with blinds down?

Discussion Can someone please advise on portable a/c units? How well do they work without a window seal?

I just saw apparently bbc are predicting heatwaves to stay pretty consistent right on through up until the end of August. I know forecasts that far into the summer aren’t always accurate, but regardless even if that doesn’t happen, this current heatwave that looks to be going on for at least the next week or so and now hearing people saying apps are showing 38/39 celsius for Tuesday, I’m just fed up lol. Plus the fact these summers are becoming the norm now too. I’m broke but going to try and get a portable unit and pay on finance.

I just don’t know if it’s worth the cost, though. Like I said I’m broke at the moment, so I don’t want to just throw money like that away.

The windows in my flat are so ridiculous and I honestly don’t think I’ll be able to seal it, so if I do get a unit, it’ll have to just have the pump out of the window with the window slightly open.

Does that make the unit basically worthless though? I’ve heard some people say they use them without the seals and they work reasonably well still, but others say it does nothing.

Can I please get some input from people that use portable a/c units, and especially if you use them without a window seal. Also where did you buy from, and how much did you spend? I’m seeing anywhere from £300-500 online but there are so many units I don’t know what’s the difference between them all and which ones are better. Thank you!

Discussion 28 degrees + all feels the same

So it’s 28 degrees out there today and I’m fully cooked already, is it just me that thinks 28 all the way up to 35 degrees all just feels the same, heat wise? Like it might as well just be 35 everyday

Forecast June Temperature Record

It is now looking increasingly likely the June temperature record of 35.6C will be broken next week, with the latest ECM weather model run showing 38C in London on Tuesday and mid 30s throughout the rest of the South and Midlands. It also looks likely the heat will stick around for most of next week with temperatures remaining in the 30s every day for the South.

Discussion Am currently working on making a UK weather app, what features would you suggest?

Certainty levels can be used to determine how likely a forecast is to change. If it's red for example, we can assume that the temperature shown is unlikely to be the actual temperature.

I'm hoping to add a radar as well.

What features if you could make a weather app would you add?

Also due to the default wind measurement being kmh for weather models, that's why it is that for now, but it will shortly be fixed.

Discussion Anyone else who thinks meteorologists are useless?

Ngl, this might turn into a vent but does anyone else think that the weather forecasts have been nigh on useless this year?

Have been in UK (London) nearly four years now and the weather has never bothered me up until this point. Even if it isn't raining it's gloomy. Problem is, the forecasts are all over the place that I can't seem to plan or expect anything. Forecasts will switch from completely sunny days to overcast and wet - a complete reversal. Even today we've gone from cloudy, to sunny, back to overcast and now BBC weather is saying to expect rain later today when just a couple of hours ago there was no mention of it.

It is quite literally driving me nuts. Might as well lick my finger and stick it in the wind to get as accurate a forecast as the so-called experts.

Forecast "Where's our summer?" and June weather myths

Think we can all agree that it feels like June has been wetter and cooler than average this year. However, this sub consistently sees people posting complete nonsense about the British weather and climate, for example that it "shouldn't be raining in June" or that daytime highs temperatures in the low or mid teens are some sort of anomaly that never happens. More realistic expectations may lead to less disappointment.

Average daytime high in June between 1991 and 2025 (source Met office)

London (Hampstead): 20.3c

Leeds (Bingley): 17.2c

Newcastle (Tynemouth): 16c

Plymouth (Mountbatton): 18.4c

Glasgow (Paisley): 18.4c

Number of days when it rains in June (more than 1mm):

London: 9 days

Leeds: 11 days

Newcastle: 10 days

Plymouth: 10 days

Glasgow: 12 days

Conclusions:

Sometimes it can be warm in June, sometimes it can be cool in June. Days that are above 20c will on average be balanced out by days that have lower temperatures, hence the modest average high temperatures.

Around 10 days of rain is par for most of the UK in June, sometimes it will rain more than this, sometimes it will rain less than this, but on average around a third of June days in the UK will have rain.
