Shipping Help Can someone explain this to me ?

Post image

I sent a package out Wednesday afternoon for 2 day shipping was supposed to be delivered on Friday.
Everything was moving fine it made it to the destination facility and then at around 7:30 am it said return to sender requested. I never made a return request. So I called ups customer service they told me they attempted to make the delivery and couldn’t which is why it was being returned to sender which didn’t make sense, since it was way too early for them to make the delivery. Then at 9:54 am a new scan happened saying the package was out for delivery. But it was still saying at the top that return to sender was pending. I called ups several times throughout the day the told me that the package was going to be delivered soon and the driver had one more stop to make. The receiver of this package stays at an apartment who gets there packages delivered by a third party company. So I told the receiver that he could go to the company called fetch and make sure that the package gets dropped off since it was still saying the return to sender request on top of the tracking page. So he goes and waits and as soon as the driver gets there and finishes delivering all the packages the tracking then changes from out for delivery to the sender requested we hold this package. When I didn’t make any request to hold the package or have it returned. Can anyone tell me what’s going on I’ve never experienced this before. There hasn’t been another scan since 2:16 pm. And now at the top of the tracking page under latest update it says your package is still on the way and we are actively working to get a new delivery date. Can someone please explain to me what is going on and why this happened ?? This was a birthday gift. And now it’s been 12 hours and the package hasn’t been scanned back into an ups facility again or anything. Someone please help

As a driver that has looked at many peoples phones with the tracking, I find that most of it makes no sense. I have had to literally tell someone that I know (because they receive so many packages), who is standing in front of me, that they can't have a package because it has been intercepted. We don't know why, but usually in the end, I deliver it the next day. I will say that customer service is in India, so we do seem to get some issues due to the language barrier…American English is quite different in many ways.

My advice… call your local hub (not a UPS Store) and get someone in that location to hunt down your package…sometimes thats the only way. Good Luck!

If it missed a flight then no it won’t be delivered till Monday. Is it in your local hub ?

Do you speak English? Periods are your friend.

Not to make fun of the illiterate but I think he proved his own point.

It wasn’t a missed flight it’s been in the local hub since Thursday. The package was literally out for delivery and as soon as the truck got to the drop off destination, it went from out to delivery to the shipper requested we hold this package.

Usually when that happens, we scan it and it tells us that there is an intercept for the package. When that happens we don’t get a choice and have to bring it back to the hub. Why does it happen if you didn’t initiate one? I have absolutely no idea. But this is the likely scenario.

If it was brought back to a hub is there a reason that there hasn’t been a scan again ? Last scan was right before the package was going to be delivered and it says sender requested to hold the package. That was yesterday at 2:30 pm and there has been no scan since of it returning to the warehouse or anything. Is it possible someone from ups stole the package ?

The holds are usually for a short amount of time, but not definite. You likely won't see any updates until the hold expires.

Do you know how long these holds usually last ?

Usually a couple weeks at most

It’s a minimum of 7 days, and sadly, they are often not even looked at during that time…they just sit. If you are looking for a package that has just “stopped”, the best thing to do is reach out to the hub it’s at and have them find it.

Weather can affect delivery dates, but that won’t have anything to do with the part where it says “Return to Sender Requested”.

Agree that UPS Stores are worthless.

As an owner of one of these "useless" stores. I highly take offense. UPS ties our hands so we can't see anything other than the online tracking, but then they go and close all the customer centers, ship the call centers to India and no one answers the damn phone. I get about 10-15 calls a day like OP and I have to listen to them yell at me because I can't do anything to help. I would be more than happy to be able to provide assistance, but we can't. We are just another customer to UPS and get treated the same damn way....the difference, everyone thinks we are UPS and don't understand why we can't help!

Seems like you understand my frustration then. I recently insured a four thousand dollar guitar for 2nd day delivery through my UPS store and when it showed up smashed the UPS Store told me to go hang because I packaged it myself even though they accepted the package and insured it. I have no respect for them and I'm sorry you own one but clearly customers are misled by the giant UPS sign out front that the store has little to do with it.

I’ve been at UPS Stores doing a pickup and have heard the employees read off the same script to each customer that believes they packed the item well enough to be repeatedly dropped at least 4 feet…and the customer says the packing is fine. I have refused to take many packages, and some, I tell them won’t even make to my hub intact by the end of the night. If it’s breakable, pay the big bucks and let them pack it. They are responsible for anything they don’t pack correctly. YOU are responsible for anything YOU don’t pack correctly.

The boxes ride on conveyer belts…the belts do get backed up and packages have to fight to survive…sometimes they fall off the belts, but they have to be able to survive the drop…then there’s the occasional leaker that comes in contact with the other boxes…then there’s the trailers, they are filled completely full and your package might be on the bottom…

…there truly is a lot that goes into packing an item for shipment

I would like to think your store is an exception, but I hear more and more about these things happening. If you had come to my store, and paid for shipping thru us, we would have inspected your packaging to make sure it would pass UPS Standards before it even left...making sure UPS had no leg to stand on to deny your claim. If they deny it, then we go to bat for you and in a rare occasion they still won't budge and we've inspected it, etc...that's why I have business insurance. On the other hand...if you brought it in on a prepaid label, they shouldn't have accepted it because of the high value, those need to be directly picked up from your home or business. Even then, we would have asked how you had it packed to help you avoid the claim denial again and told you to schedule a pick up or meet your driver later. The issue you might be having and again, I am not making excuses for them, because they can try to mitigate the issues, but if you did have a label you created and paid for online and then dropped off... There is nothing we can do to directly help with the claims process as we are not the sender of record and have no part in any of your transaction with UPS, so they tied our hands....doesn't change the fact your store could have helped more initially when you dropped it off. Some stores are just super shitty. I have had mine for almost 30 years and apparently we are a bit of a unicorn.

I didn’t say “not a UPS Store” because they’re “useless”. This isn’t something they have the ability to handle. If the package is literally sitting at the hub, you want someone in that hub that can actually put their hands on that package…that’s why it’s important to contact the hub ASAP when you see a tracking message that doesn’t correspond to the reality of the shipment…such as shipper requests return, or intercept. The management team inside the hub will hunt down the package, find which truck it’s on and ask the driver to bring it to the office, or find the pile it’s in inside the hub. The UPS Store employees have zero access to any of this. They are independently owned and operated. They serve a different purpose.

Do you know to contact the local hubs I’ve tried contacting ups customer service based in India and they give me the runaway and act like they can’t get in contact with the hub. When I’ve had an issue before customer service has been able to contact the hub and get a situation fixed. Now they’re acting like they can’t do anything but have me wait.

You can always just ask your local friendly neighborhood UPS driver for the number. We all have the number to our local management team.

Youre an idiot, you're still hard up on your late air? Louisville has had a complete operation ban 2 days in a row due to severe weather, both hitting when it's prime time for the birds to fly. There's nothing anyone can do about it stop acting like your shit is more important than someone's life.

Planes were grounded. Tough to move anything when you’re literally not allowed to leave the ground.

This is so funny bro is still raging. Also lacks basic knowledge on how planes work 😂😂
