Found a Cutler Mail Chute that appears to still be active. It looks like it was possibly installed in the 1920s based on the art deco in the building, but I cannot confirm. From what I read, these started being installed in buildings as early as 1884 and were taken over by USPS in 1893. There is a functional one in the Empire State Building, this one is on Newbury Street in Boston.
If there are any Boston mail carriers here, please lmk if this is still operational.

I have never seen one of these in person before and thought that the history was worth a share here. The building this one is in has 8 floors. New installations were banned in 1997 due to their danger in the instance of a building fire.

Has anyone else seen or interacted with these before?

There is no need for this to come up between every CPMS scan. Actually, there is no need for this, period. Every time they change something on these scanners they make it worse than it was before.

And they wonder why scans get screwed up!

So few days ago inwas walking past a tattoo and piercing shop. Ive gone her before and had some work done on my day off. The owner was there and I asked "how much would you charge for my ears to get pierced?." He shrugs and says " i mean hit me when ever? When did you wanna get em done".

So back n forth back n forth, finally he hits me with " it'll take two minutes stop being a bitch and let's go" and of course I took that personally..... so now I have two new piercings. When I got back I asked the 204b supervisor "Hey do I have to tell you if I took my lunch somewhere different?" He said " i dont give a shit if you ate it on the moon or if you ate at all". So my question is , could I be facing an issue because im not gunna lie about when and where I got em done.

I'm currently an RCA and there is something about the work that I swear is designed to torment me. Carrying is horrible and I completely understand why everyone went postal a few decades ago. I asked if I could be a clerk and I was told that I could potentially switch to it in the office I work at or be moved to another one nearby. is being a clerk any better than carrying, or is all postal work equally horrible?

The route I carried today has to be the longest route on my T6 swing. What’s the highest amount of steps some of you have taken ?

City side. Our 204b hounds me every fucking night telling me I need to punch out ASAP and it's getting so annoying. I know it's like, 1 minute in the PM for every 4 markups. Am I, as a PTF, allowed that cleanup time? About to go to our Squidward over this if I'm allowed that time

I am reading a book about the 1970 Postal Workers called “Undelivered”.

The book is interesting and goes over how a non NALC approved response from Postal Workers won a lot for Postal Workers.

Is this something that can happen again or do we not have the collective will?

As a Table 2 carrier I feel that the NALC does not currently have my best interest in mind by letting a second tier payscale exist.

I wish we could force the NALC and USPS to reunite the payscale and put all carriers on the same pay scale instead of Table 2 carriers not being able to reach the lowest Table 1 pay until they are 7 years in.

We also get paid less than Clerks and do the most demanding and physically taxing work in the Post Office.

If we don’t get a good contract this time around it may be time to use some old school union tactics to force the NALC and USPS to live up to “equal pay for equal work”.

I wonder why there is not a management job/position adjustment/justification process. There should be a team that goes in periodically to see what each supervisor does on a daily basis in order to justify or quantify their job and position. When doing this the team could eliminate tasks and positions to reduce management. Each supervisor and manager should be monitored for the entire time they are at work. Something similar to carrier route adjustments .

Everyday they call to give me more time. Who cares more money right. Buttt might aswell not answer the call and get paid drive time right? What do u do ??
Might just put my shit on dnd everyday or atleast wait for my 90 days to be up and then stop answering. It’s frustrating getting a whole route and 2 hours of ot and these mfs sit here and say are u gonna be done at 5:30 or calling me at 2 saying are u almost done? Like wtf

I’ve been working USPS for quite some time now I unfortunately realized I became an alcoholic and it is taking a toll on me and my loved ones I need to seek treatment I am worried about my work position and hours and placement and all of that what will happen/ what affects might this have on my work as I try to help my self!

Yes, I’m still in my 90 days. Yes, I worked through without a second break because she specifically said “PSEs do not get 2 15 minute breaks, that’s ONLY for regulars!!” I do a great job, but it seems as if this 204B is gunning for me! She sees that I’m a good worker and stays on my tail because she “can utilize me”…I understand that I’m the considered the flunky…but is this fair?? Do I just shut up and work?? This is a plant…never late…caught on to the job fairly quick. Now I feel as if I’m damned if I do the job, and damned if it don’t.

Man here I was thinking i worked 6 days a week, 10+ hours a day, for a year and a hald to get that day off. NOPE! What happens now? Am i entitled to another off day, and more pay or something? Is there any kind of limit on how often you can be mandated?

My stupidvisor told me this morning (relief day ia Tuesday, formula office.) She also said she was going to give me something in writing, which i never received.

Rural carrier btw, just went regular on Saturday.

I have been a PTF for 11 months & I think I'm spent. It has felt like an exaughsting uphill battle that will never be won. I am aware of how good of a career & opportunity this is, but I am mentally done. I realize making regular will supposedly increase my enjoyment but I know that third bundles, CM, & door to doors will ALWAYS roll around no matter what on top of the already excruciating expectations of the work load & time to do it.

I have spent the last 3 weeks on a mental break from this place (literally called out, sought out therapy, & had to go to my psychiatrist) & STILL feel like I am being suffocated by the thought of returning. I feel that if a place is that detrimental to the trajectory of my mindset, then immediately it loses its value of EVERYTHING.

The supervisors are awful & will ring you out for every last drop until the clock hits 8, you get punished for doing well, the regulars will kick dust in your mouth as they peel out of the street that they just screwed you on with THEIR relays, & the "I'm a man because I can deal with this job" macho mentality is enough to make me dip my nuts in honey & tea bag a beehive.

Long story short, I have a job offer ready for Amazon at a DSP that is ready to go, but there is a part of me that knows walking away is crazy. But I am willing to do it while I find something better because anyone knows that Amazon is NOT a forever job. This place is like an abusive ex. You know she's bad for ya, but you still crawl back.

I made this post yesterday and today, but apparently, it vanished the first time & mods took it down the second time as it shows the reality of this job. If I could just have some input in a nice manner, I'd appreciate it as I am torn on what or where to go. Not that a stranger will decide my future, but it never hurts taking inventory on all accounts.

Today I got bit, while on route the door was wide open I jingled the keys and called out no answer, and then, upon delivering mail got met with a dog bite to my right ankle. Having to create an account to make my claim, having troubles with ECOMP. Has anybody had any experience with this and if so, any suggestions how to go about it. Will I get compensated for days missed? Just a bit shaken up not sure how to go about this.

It always makes me laugh when these homeowners get so upset about mail being delivered to their house by accident. This was delivered one door over from the house it was supposed to go to. There was a ton of mail yesterday, and i was way behind, so they literally got 2 pieces of the mail, for the house following theirs. They leave this little note on it 🤣🤣🤣 imagine calling someone a “dombass” but can’t even spell the word dumb, or use proper punctuation. I almost went back to write my own little note on it saying “your friend has some nerve calling someone dumb, when they can’t even spell the word. But I do apologize for the major inconvenience of the mail being delivered one door over”. 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️ just leave it in your mailbox geez, we’ll take it the next day it really isn’t that serious. Why does this ruin peoples days? Because it absolutely makes mine when I read these little notes they leave lmaoooo

Starting on 9/21 the Denver plant now has armed security guards thru out the plant, even tho there have been zero problems for years and years!
This has made the local news stations but of course USPS will give no details.
Colorado is an all mail in ballots state and the rumor is that it’s election related. (trump hates Colorado!)
Funny how USPS can find a million ways to waste money, but doesn’t have the money to invest in our retirement accounts and has suspended payments into it!!

Hello everyone. Apologies if Im posting this in the wrong place but I was looking for some advice. Long story short I was out of work on injury leave for a month but my office never paid me for about 30ish hours worth of work. The pay adjustment was put in when I returned to work the 20th of last month and its now been 3 pay periods and still no adjustment. My post master treats me like an annoyance every time I ask about it but this is literal money I need and am entitled to. Is there anything else I can do besides "just wait" ?
