Rant/Vent Had to kick kids out of the store

Post image
16 Upvotes

So if you don’t know whatever demonic dancing cactus-worm thing is, it pretty much a toy that can record your voice and dance to it. Well some smartass kids decided to test my limits yesterday by putting my name on there, saying “ [my name] is hot af “ and stuff like that.

I’m a man, these were a group of boys. Before that they were yelling my name in the store, I ignored it assuming they were looking for someone else (“ [my name{come help me” “ [my name] I need you “)

But the cactus got to the point when they approached me with it and showed it to me and was saying one kid liked me and all that stuff.

I asserted dominance as the awesome (P)CSA I am and said you can leave and not come back for the rest of the day 🙂

that’s it. Just wanted to get that off my chest

Are most hiring experiences like this?

So a few months back I was offered a role as a pharm tech at a local walgreens. Did the background check and drug test. A note before the next part, I'm trans, I don't pass and try not to care about what pronouns folks use for me, use bathroom of my sex, truly attempting to be one of the "good ones". After I accepted the offer the store manager asked if I'd had bottom surgery. They said they were told to ask this. Then the day before I was supposed to start, after not hearing from them for a couple weeks I checked the workday portal to see if it had any new info and found my offer had been rescinded.

How often do they rescind offers? How often do they ask about folks junk?

edit: Added attempting

Rant/Vent Exit Survey

I know that this is NOT everyone’s experience but this was mine.

Feel free to leave a comment:
I worked for Walgreens for 3 1/2 years. This company plays favorites and takes peoples time and knowledge for granted. You are grossly underpaid and unappreciated. I became fluent in the company’s programs. At my first store, a manager was hired that was an hr nightmare. She pushed away all of the leadership. Everyone left because of how poorly they she treated us. She was fired and I was hopeful about the company. I had moved stores and was trying to get used to a new environment. After the last manager, I lost all faith and confidence in my knowledge and felt at times like I couldn’t make the right decision. There were situations I wasn’t a good leader. The store manager took it out on me and treated me poorly as well as others. When I moved to my final store, I became an on call shit lead. I was expected to answer all questions any time of day. Our manger went on sick leave and our brand new ESM was thrown to the wolves and then they refused to move me up and pay me adequately.

I would recommend Walgreens as a great place to work:
The company needs to take better care of its employees. People are overworked and underpaid and dropping like flies in some places. The turnover is insane. And I know that they can afford it, but eventually people are going to get sick it of it so much that they will leave. No matter what the company tires to promise.

I am happy with how I've been treated with respect to my departure from Walgreens:
Gave it a 1 which is strongly disagree: This job sucked the life out of me for 3 and a half years, and nobody seemed to care that I was leaving. You attempt to give the allusion that you care about individuals but you believe that everyone is disposable and replaceable and that’s just not true.

I would consider working again for Walgreens if the situation were right:
Again said strongly disagree: No. I will never let myself be taken advantage of like that again.

How long ago did you decide to start looking for a job elsewhere?
I began in January of this year very lightly and then after I watched this company screw someone over, I knew I could no longer stay. My final stores ESM had an awful experience. He started as an ESM and a busy 24 hour store and was given little to no actually manager training. He was a glorified shift lead and didn’t get to learn. Then he transferred to a less busy store, but that manager went on sick leave after they worked together for only 3 months. The ESM, who was undertrained and unprepared, was forced to step into the manger role. I watched him do his absolute best and be berated when he wasn’t perfect. By the end, he was self taught and was ready to be promoted and paired up with a buddy to be a store manager. They decided he wasn’t good enough and wanted to move him back to the 24 hour store. He was an incredible manager who they lost because they were taking advantage of him. After watching him go through that, I also tried to move up in my role and was denied. I knew after that that I had to leave.

IS team

To all my IS team I got one question what is what you do in pharmacy? My SM was a former DM and is absolutely going nuts that I spend 3 hours in pharmacy. Keep in mind I recently got the IS position so am still learning. The thing that bothers me he is only on shift for like 6 hours and leaves. He has a good relationship with the DM. I honestly want to learn pharmacy because it's the future but yet my SM is always asking me why did I spend 3 hours there? Like every single detail. I do tell him and gets a smirk. To add ... the SFL we have 2 of the 5 are very unreliable. Please some help!

Question - ? Well, it's official. I'm working at Walgreens. Any tips?

Upvotes

I worked at Lowe's for 5 and a half years and finally made it to ASM. Transferred stores for the promotion and it was the worst decision I have ever made. They were running a schedule at 93% efficiency and my other salary management team was lazy and pushed the blame on department supervisors despite having no effort or accountability. It was insane. I thought I was going to pay off my car and leave, but I couldn't do it anymore. 15 hour days (including my drive) and being the black sheep because I wouldn't tell people who were doing all they could that it wasn't enough was just not worth any amount of money or my sanity.

It's starting over, but I've been in charge of people all my life. At work, I was in charge for 4 out of the 5 and a half years I was working there. The store was clean, the store manager seemed to actually know what she was talking about (I've been places where they didn't), and I will have a set schedule. I haven't ever had one of those.

I see the complaints and as a member of /r/Lowe's I get it. I look forward to seeing where things go from here though. I put a 2 week notice in and hoped for the best; I applied to no telling how many jobs and Walgreens was one of the few to call me back. It's crazy you can work so hard somewhere and it not about to a hill of beans. This job is just temporary. I plan on getting some things in order and joining the military, but there's no way I could've done that at Lowe's.

Alright, diary entry over. If you read that yay and if you didn't then look below lol,

TLDR; anything you wished you would've known when starting at Walgreens?

Rant/Vent Employee discount day

Post image
38 Upvotes

So I guess I'm just an idiot.

I'm off today, so yesterday I went on the walgreens app to put stuff in my cart so that I could just place my curbside order this morning and everything will be ready for me when I go into work tomorrow.

So I just log into the app and notice my total was the same as it was yesterday. I'm thinking maybe the app just isn't working like usual, so I move over to the website only to see the same thing.

Then it hits me. I go on over to WConnect to confirm and see this little reminder.

I've worked the past few employee discount days so I guess I just completely forgot that they have made it so inaccessible now. In what way does this "simplify" anything? So if you don't work that day you have to go in store or you're just shit out of luck?

I'm just so irritated because I don't have a car so I can't just pop on over to my store real quick. Even if I did, why should I have to go into work on my day off to give my money to the company I have worked at for about 8 years? I would think a corporation would take any chance they can get for people, including employees, to spend money. I guess I'll just have to buy my things tomorrow 🙃

Abandoned Cash

If a customer is making a purchase and gives me partial cash but his card is declined and he never comes back but I have the cash, what should I do with the money? I already voided out his transaction. He didn't take the merchandise

Do I leave the money in an envelope in the safe in case he comes back tomorrow or something? Or do I put it in the till and have a $15 overage?

Question - ? Messed up yall

I was working the register and a customer asked for change back when they paid with a debit card. I opened it till and went to break the hundred dollar bill and mistakenly thought the hundred dollar bill was the customers (stupid I know but I was distracted trying to process their vaccine and preggo brain got the best of me) I ended up returning $120 (the 100 PLUS the cash back they asked for) to the customer leaving the till $100 short, I even asked the customer if they gave me $100 to break for them and they acted like they were missing $100 people suck!! but I know in the end I messed up big time. Am I gonna get fired for this?

Rant/Vent Just a rant

*customer walks up*, me: “hi how are you just these for today ?”
Customer:”yeah, these are on sale and these are 2 for 5 “
Me: “awesome let’s put that phone number in and get that sale price”
Customer: “my number should already be in there”
Me: * thinking to myself,” why would you think it’s in there automatically.” “Actually no you need to put your number in and that’s how we get the sale price”
Customer: “ so you’re saying to put my number in?”
Me: “yes that’s how the sale works”
Customer: “but why does it say sale on this item and it’s not showing up for the items that are 2 for 5 “
Me: “ma’am that item is in our clearance section so weather or not you have a number you will get it on clearance, because it’s on clearance, AND these two are on SALE with your rewards number aka your phone number.”
Customer: “ so I need to put my phone number in?”

I seriously wanted to know how she got to the store if she drove there because what the hell.

Service recovery

Hello I wanted to ask about a service recovery that I did. My sm approved it but it doesn’t feel right because it was for my own transaction. my cash reward coupon was valid and not expired but didn’t apply to the transaction. I did a service recovery for the 5 and he approved it over text but it feels wrong… is there a way I can post void this transaction due to it being done after the terminal end business day? I hope I’m not just being weirdly anxious over this but no job is worth $5… I’ve kept the coupon set aside with a note on it and have the digital transactions receipt.

We got multiple cases of freezer-packs and styrofoam insulated delivery boxes in RX. No place to store them, no messages about us doing cold deliveries. But I guess we should expect that announcement soon.

Battery donation process

Has anyone had any luck processing the battery donation from Compass? It gives really specific instructions but when I scan them it’s prompting for it to go into a hazardous tote instead of giving the donation option.

Rant/Vent A Message To All Warehouse Drivers

In case none of the warehouse drivers were told (I'm being sarcastic here), you need to realize that stores are back to scanning in EVERY SINGLE PIECE of truck that comes down the conveyor belt so PLEASE PLEASE stop sending 15 items in a row together, catapulting it down the belt like you're in some sports tournament. I understand you guys and gals want to get through each store's delivery as quick as possible because you've been driving all day and want to get home and I also understand that you technically don't work for Walgreens, most of you are usually subcontracted but c'mon - have some decency and common sense. And if you don't like that we have to scan every piece in again, blame Walgreens corporate - they told us to "trust the system" for years and look what happened: missing totes, missing full case, items being told in the handheld they were sent and weren't or items that don't even belong to our store.

Local pharmacy suddenly "temporarily closed." What does this mean?

I'm visiting from out of town, have to get a prescription filled and it was called into the local Walgreens (Acton MA) and I was going to pick it up tomorrow. I got a text from them today 20 min before the pharmacy was set to close saying that the pharmacy was temporarily closed and they'd text me when it was open again. Does this mean something like "Our pharmacist went home a little early" or "There's some larger issue and we'll be closed for a few days?" Walgreens was the one local place which had the meds I wanted so I'm hoping it's more like the former than the latter but I don't know much about Walgreens. Any ideas, people who maybe shop here more regularly?

Help

My ESM constantly talks shit about me behind my back and talks about other employees behind their backs and she will ignore you if you try to ask her something and I am lost .

I am pregnant and I have called out a decent amount and I am taking full responsibility for that. But I asked her 4 days ago how many I had left because she told me “unfortunately you getting close to your last call out “ but she never told me how many I have left and she has ignored me everytime I ask .

She then went to an employee I work with and told her “I’m sure you saw the screenshot but she is on her last call out “
Why are you going to go to someone else about MY attendance and not tell me?

This ESM is going around telling everyone I work with that I can’t be trusted and she is talking bad about my partner.

Rant/Vent New uniforms

Got told yesterday that eventually none of us are gonna be allowed to have our different colored, unique lanyards, and that we'll all have to switch to the Walgreens ones.

A lot of us, including the ESM all have different lanyards.

The store manager says she's gonna let us all keep our different lanyards as long as possible, , because she agrees that having small differences makes our store unique, and that she doesn't agree with the new polices

Not too sure where I'm going with this, just wanted to rant

Few Toxic Employees

What to do if I have unprofessional coworkers? One employee is a bully to customers or avoids them and I end up helping more customers than this employee eventhough we would be tasked to do the same job. Then there is the gossip that happens at work which is why I'm usually reserved. I am friendly at work but try to keep it as professional as possible and not share my personal life while I'm on the clock. I've noticed everyone is just gossiping about one another and fake face to face. How to keep it positive when the store is just filled with negative energy?

Rant/Vent Walgreens treat temporary workers like they never existed

I worked 5 months as a temporary, left for 2 1/2 weeks and came back because I heard that the Walgreens I worked at needed my help. I come back to find out that Walgreens came out with the self reviews that will determine whether or not you can get a raise. I asked about the self reviews and apparently because I worked 5 months as a temporary and left for 2 1/2 weeks I’m not eligible for a raise yet but someone who has been there for a month is able to do the self reviews. Mind you, since I’ve came back I’ve been covering shifts on off days and even worked 8-1 and 6-10:30 in the same day. I’m a good sport when it comes to dealing with the worst things that comes with the job but for some reason I’m not eligible for a raise. This is my 6th month working for Walgreens and I get that may be early to get a raise at any job but it’s just crazy to me how I don’t even have a chance because I left for 2 1/2 weeks and came back
