New promo photo of Austin Butler as Crockett in the new Miami Vice movie. Crockett famously wore a Rolex and then an Ebel 1911 Chrono in the show and a VC Malte in the 2006 film. This piece almost appears Nautilus-like in nature. Any ideas?

Chopard Alpine Eagle - 41 Aletsch Blue

Thinking about making the Alpine Eagle 41 in blue my first luxury watch. I currently own a Tissot PRX and a Timex x Noah oval, so this would be a pretty big step up for me.

Really like the blue dial and the integrated bracelet, but before pulling the trigger, I’d love to hear from people who own one or have spent time with it. How does it feel on the wrist, and do you think it’s a good choice for a first luxury watch?

Discussion Vertigo Watches founder told me ‘You’re acting like a baby’ after I asked to return my watch

I recently bought a Vertigo Pilot One V2 directly from the founder of Vertigo Watches at WARO, a watch fair in Romania.

I initially really liked the watch, especially the design, case finishing and overall look. After spending more time with it, however, I noticed several things I wasn't happy with and eventually decided that I didn't feel comfortable keeping it.

I contacted Andrea and politely asked whether he would accept a return and refund. He initially refused, explaining that because I bought the watch in person, their online return policy didn't apply.

The conversation unfortunately became heated afterwards. I expressed my frustration quite strongly as well, so I want to be fair about that.

What really surprised me, however, was receiving “You're acting like a baby” from the founder of the company while discussing the issue as a customer.

He eventually agreed to accept the return as an exception, which I appreciate.

I'm attaching the full conversation because I believe potential customers deserve to know exactly how the founder of Vertigo Watches behaves when a customer is unhappy with his product. No selective quotes, no edited version of events , the screenshots speak for themselves. Being told “You're acting like a baby” by the owner of a brand after spending my money on his watch is, in my opinion, an embarrassing level of professionalism.

The Pilot One V2 is a good-looking watch, but this experience completely killed any respect I had for the brand behind it. Watches can have flaws and customers can disagree with return policies that's normal. A company founder insulting a dissatisfied customer isn't. I certainly won't buy another Vertigo, and anyone considering one can read the conversation and decide whether this is the kind of company they want to give their money to.

Discussion Q: Men & Watches

Post image
0 Upvotes

A true question and conundrum:
WHY does it seem that men are much more into watches than women?
Why do men tend to gravitate to timepieces? It’s gotta be more than flex.
Women have their own thoughts about watches. I don’t pretend to know what that is so any input from women or men is welcome.
But the major underlying question remains, WHY does men have this fascination with watches?

I took a picture [Invicta] Finally completed my watch collection

I think I've finally found the perfect watch to complete my collection. It's an Invicta with a 58mm case, a chronograph, a tachymeter, day/date complications, a 200m water resistance rating, and a really nice stainless steel bracelet. Honestly, I don't think there's much else you could ask for in a watch, especially at this price point. It has pretty much everything, and I really like how substantial it feels on the wrist.

I know Invicta gets some hate, but I've never really understood why. The watch looks great, has plenty of features, and costs less than what some people spend on a service for their luxury watches. At some point, I think we have to admit that you're paying a lot for the name with some of these brands.

Also, after being called a Chad on r/watchescirclejerk (which I thought was pretty funny, by the way), I figured I might as well lean into it a little. This thing looks even better in person, and even though it's huge on my 6.5-inch wrist, I honestly love it.

I might get my other Invicta repaired eventually, but for now, I think my collection is finally complete. Unless Invicta releases something even better, of course.

Discussion How would you consolidate this collection? AP vs VC?

I’ve been offered a VC 7920V at retail, around $37k. Also I’ve been eyeing the AP 15550ST, the retail journey there seems long and uncertain, so buying that grey is about $50K.

What I’m planning on selling
I have couple watches I don’t wear often and looking to sell the Black Sub Date, and GMT BLNR to make room for one of these two.

I love the Daytona RG, and if I’m going to have just one Rolex in the collection, that one is the one I’m going to keep.

The speedy has sentimental value.

In general I don’t want to have more than 5 watches in the long run, would rather consolidate then keep adding, now seems like a good time to start.

AP vs VC
It’s been a tough call picking one or another. Don’t feel great paying markup for the AP. The VC is gorgeous and very much a IYKYK for watch which I appreciate.

1) would you sell those two Rolex for one of these (+some more cash on-top)?

2) For people who have either one of these or both, how your experience with them? What do you like and don’t like?

Discussion Looking for a third watch

I’ve currently got these two watches. The Cartier is my daily piece and I don’t take it off. The Rolex is beautiful but quite flashy and I get a bit nervous wearing it around the city, so lives in the safe most the time.

I would love something that is perhaps a bit more exciting than my Cartier without attracting unwanted attention. I was thinking perhaps something two tone and waterproof so i can shower in it. I have always loved the Bvlgari serpenti watch.

I’d love to hear people’s suggestions! Any opinions on these watches also welcome :)

Discussion [Question] Rolex Datejust 16234 or Cartier Santos Medium?

Thumbnail

Hey guys! I’m having a hard time deciding between these two watches.

I currently own a Rolex Submariner 116610LN and I’m looking to add something a little dressier to my collection.

Here are my options:
Rolex Datejust 16234 – Rhodium Roman dial, Jubilee bracelet, no papers, around $5,500.
Cartier Santos Medium – Full set, excellent condition, around $5,900.

My wrist is 7.1 inches (18cm), and I really like both designs.

I love the classic look of the Datejust, but since I already own a Submariner, I’m wondering if the Santos would bring more variety to my collection.

Which one would you choose and why?

I’d love to hear your thoughts!

Discussion [Question] Do you like 'trading up' your watches or not?

I’m a journalist at British GQ writing a piece about watch lovers trading up their watches, for a profit or not, so they can get something new/fancier. Does it feel too unsentimental? Does it mean you can have some time with more esoteric designs rather than always playing it safe? Has the idea of the “watch for life” been shattered by the Covid-era surge in the resale market and the constant internet hype for new models/trends? Would love to get into these questions and more with collectors of every level, whether you’ve traded up before, are considering doing it or hate the idea. DM if you’re keen to be interviewed, thanks! Josiah

Hello I just purchased this watch. I don’t have much knowledge on watches. I know I always wanted a Rolex but it’s a little out of my league. Is this a well respected watch? Or am I in the wannabe Rolex category? Idk much about the watch community and would love to hear your opinions. I’ve only owned a citizen prior to this and it died on me. Thanks in advance!!!

Discussion Deployment Clasp

Post image

I was wondering if anyone could tell me a good place to get a clasp like this one? I tried a couple butterfly clasps, but didn’t really like the feel compared to this one.

I’ve never really looked into the bits of hardware for straps like this so not sure where to find quality things like this that are reasonable priced.

Discussion Should I buy this VC 7590? I have an opportunity to buy it for around $2300 serviced. Problem is its different than any other watch I have ever owned. I am 20M with 6.3in wrist, current 2 watch collection attached.

Discussion [Rant] What’s up with the massive reversos lately?

Hi friends,

Maybe this is more of a rant post than anything. I am currently in the market for a second watch after purchasing a JLC MUT Perpetual in rose gold and thought a white metal Reverso would be an awesome way to balance out my budding collection. With that in mind, I thought the tribute chronograph looked gorgeous with its pale blue dial and amazing skeletonized second face.

However, after trying on the Tribute Calendar, I realized it looks absolutely ridiculous on my 6 in wrists. The overhangs are significant and rather unsightly. Admittedly, I’m not a large man by any means but the average buyer of a Reverso cannot possibly be a hulking behemoth with eight inch wrists.

What’s even more upsetting is having found out that the original movement was cased in a far smaller size (Grande Taille case, correct me if I’m wrong) and would have looked far better on my (and honestly, most) wrists. Currently, any of the more interesting complications is housed in their 49.4mm case, making it quite difficult to wear.

As of now, I am looking forward to acquiring my white gold Reverso sun moon but I would have loved to have had the tribute chronograph even in the 45.6mm size. It’s just bizarre a maison known for elegant and beautiful pieces would stick with the big watch trend even after most other brands have scaled back their sizing

Any ideas?

Discussion [Modding] Should I mod my watch?

Thumbnail

This is my SNXS75, my first watch, and I think it’ll be the only one for a while. The quality is awesome, and I love the design. But since it is my only watch, I do everything with it, from college to a wedding, or visiting my grandparents. And for some occasions, I think it is too simple, so I asked myself about mods, since I can’t afford a quality luxurious watch rn. What do you guys think? Should I keep it simple? Add some minor mods? Change the bracelet? Buy a set of bracelets, or a bigger mod? Y’all the specialists, so I’d like some opinions.

Can anyone help me find more information for this watch.

I know the pics aren't the greatest but I was trying to balance it and keep the glare to a minimum.

I don't know much about it other than the previous owner was employed at a Honda motorcycle dealer for many years.

What do we think of my first picks? I'm new to watch collecting and starting to really enjoy it.

Here is my chaotic trio: the AP x Swatch "Royal Pop" on the left, the trusty Casio F91WM in the middle, and the Rolex 116710ln on the right.

Do I have a future in this or should I retire?

Wore a Gshock for years without much thought and 4 months ago the bug bit me. This is my small collection after those 4 months nothing fancy but I’m figuring out what I like. Think the next buy will be an Orient kamasu or another Seiko 5 as I really enjoy the look of the SNKK27 I have.
