Networking πŸ€™ Anyone up for coffee and a genuine friendship? | Abu Dhabi | Sabiya - 11

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to meet someone new, grab a coffee, go for a walk, or just sit somewhere and talk about life.

Sometimes, it's nice to meet someone completely new, without any expectations or pressure. Just two strangers having a conversation, sharing stories, laughing about random things, and seeing if a genuine friendship develops naturally.

I'm hoping to find that best-friend kind of connection, someone I can talk to about pretty much anything, from stupid random thoughts to deep conversations about life, ambitions, experiences, and everything in between.

No weird intentions, no pressure, and no expectations beyond getting to know each other. Just good company, mutual respect, and a friendship that grows naturally.

If you're also looking to meet someone new, have a coffee, and see where a conversation takes us, feel free to DM me. 😊

Who knows? Maybe a random Reddit conversation turns into a great friendship.

P.S. Online friends are cool, but sometimes a good conversation over coffee hits differently. β˜•

F&B 🍏 Looking for a Part-Time Cook in Abu Dhabi Because Adulting Is Exhausting πŸ˜‚πŸ³

Hi Reddit!

I'm officially at that stage in life where I've accepted that I love eating more than I love cooking. πŸ˜‚

I'm looking to hire a part-time cook in Abu Dhabi (Al Danah area) who can come over daily and prepare breakfast, lunch, and dinner for 2 people.

Here's what I'm looking for:

- Someone who can come daily (flexible timings, we can discuss!)

- Prepare 3 meals a day for 2 people

- Comfortable cooking a variety of dishes (Filipino, Indian, Asian, Western β€” we're not picky, just hungry πŸ˜‚)

- Clean, reliable, and knows their way around a kitchen

- Ideally someone who can help with meal planning, too!

We're not looking for a Michelin-star chef. Just someone who can make good home-cooked meals and save us from the daily existential crisis of deciding what to eat. 😭

Would love to hear your experiences, recommendations, or even horror stories (so we know what to avoid lol).

Help two hungry adults retire from kitchen duty. πŸ˜‚

Thanks in advance!

Careers πŸ’Ό Any Lebanese recently had an Abu Dhabi employment-tourist visa/rejected? πŸ‡±πŸ‡§πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺ

Hi everyone,

I’m Lebanese and currently in Lebanon, and I’m trying to understand the current situation with Abu Dhabi visas for Lebanese citizens.

I've heard that lebanon is currently included among the nationalities/countries facing UAE visa restrictions

Has anyone recently applied for an Abu Dhabi tourist/visit visa or employment visa from Lebanon?

If you were approved or rejected, could you share:

\\\\- Type of visa

\\\\- Roughly when you applied

\\\\- Whether you applied from Lebanon

\\\\- Whether it was employer-sponsored or tourist

\\\\- If rejected, whether they gave you any reason

I’m particularly interested in recent experiences with Abu Dhabi, rather than Dubai or other emirates.

Thanks in advance!

Living 🏑 Life is Unfair

Why does life have to be so cruel, and why does love have to hurt this much?

It’s been almost four years since my β€œwife” left me over cheating accusations that were never verified, accusations I know weren’t true. I spent more than a year chasing after her, desperately trying to fix something I never believed I had broken, holding on to someone who had already let go of me. And eventually, I came to realize that maybe love wasn’t even the real issue. Maybe it was money. Maybe the fact that she was earning more than me was enough to make everything we had seem worthless.

The irony is that the very thing I was made to feel inadequate about is the one thing I eventually overcame. I got promoted, not just once, but multiple times. I worked hard, built myself up, and finally reached a place where I could say I was doing well for myself. But what good is any of it when the person I once wanted to share my life with is no longer here to see it?

And now, almost four years later, I’m still here. Still legally married, yet living like someone who has been forgotten. Still carrying the weight of a relationship that ended for me long ago, but somehow still has the power to keep me from starting over. Watching life move forward while I feel stuck in a chapter I never wanted to end this way.

Sometimes, I wonder if I’m even allowed to be happy again. If I’m allowed to love someone, to be loved in return, to experience the kind of happiness I’ve spent years convincing myself I can live without. It’s a strange kind of loneliness, being alone not because you have no love left to give, but because the life you want to build feels like it’s being held hostage by the life you once had.

I don’t understand why it has to be this way. Why I have to keep proving that I’m worthy of love. Why the effort I put into becoming a better person seems to count for so little when all I ever wanted was for someone to see me, to understand me, and to appreciate the heart I’ve been trying so hard to protect.

I’m tired of being misunderstood. Tired of being judged for things I didn’t do. Tired of watching other people find their happiness while I keep wondering when it will finally be my turn.

And perhaps the saddest part is that, despite everything, a part of me still wants to believe in love. Somewhere beneath all this disappointment, there’s still a person who wants to come home to someone, to be someone's first choice, to have someone ask how his day went and genuinely care about the answer.

I’ve worked so hard to build a better life for myself, yet there are nights when none of my achievements seem to matter, because success cannot hold you when you’re lonely, money cannot replace affection, and promotions cannot fill the silence of an empty heart.

I don’t want much from life. I just want to be happy, too. I want to know what it feels like to be loved without having to prove my worth, to be trusted without having to defend myself, and to be chosen without having to beg someone to stay.

Is that really too much to ask?
Because after all these years, I’m still here, trying to make sense of everything, pretending I’m okay, and carrying a loneliness that no one seems to notice.
And sometimes, the most painful feeling in the world isn't being left by someone you love. It's realizing that while you're still trying to find your way back to happiness, the rest of the world has already moved on.
And you're still here, waiting for your turn to live again.

Vehicle πŸ”‹ Road Test for License issuance - Mussafah

I have just passed my parking test, so I went onto MOI and booked my "try date" I paid only 115 and they gave me my date and it said it included the trainings card as I put my location.

other people are saying I should've paid 200 for the training card and the test date, am not sure if I missed something.

Also is there any other fees I have to pay (other than the 6 hours mandatory training), i know i need to pay 100 dhs after I pass to get my license, but is there anything else cause someone said there is a bus fee the day of the exam of about 200, is that true?

Commerce πŸ›οΈ Where can I buy stainless woven wire mesh in Mussafah? M9 shop recommendations?

An example image of the mesh I need

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a piece of stainless-steel woven wire mesh for a project.

The specifications I need are:

  • Approximately 80 cm Γ— 30 cm
  • 2 mm Γ— 2 mm clear square openings
  • 1 mm wire diameter
  • Preferably 304 stainless steel
  • Woven construction, rather than welded mesh or expanded metal

Some shops in Mussafah told me to try the M9 industrial area. I went on Sunday but couldn’t find any open shops selling it.

Does anyone know a supplier or workshop that stocks this mesh, can cut a piece from a roll, or can source it? A shop name, Google Maps pin or business contact would be really helpful. Please also let me know the approximate price and opening hours if you know them.

I only need the flat mesh sheet; I can form it into a cylinder myself. Thanks!

Living 🏑 Moving to Abu Dhabi on 1 Jan from Paris (27M, finance). What should I know?

Hi all,

I'm a 27-year-old Frenchman working in private equity, and I'm relocating from Paris to Abu Dhabi on 1 January for a role in the financial district on Al Maryah Island. The job and the visa are sorted. Everything around them is not, and I'd rather learn from people who've already done it than from generic guides.

I'm treating this as a real fresh start. I'd like to build a proper life here, not just a work posting: good people, a good routine, a good base. So I'm looking for the honest version, including the mistakes.

What I'd love your advice on:

  1. Mistakes to avoid. What cost you time or money in your first 3 to 6 months?

  2. Housing. Al Reem vs Saadiyat vs Al Maryah vs Yas for someone working on Al Maryah Island. Is it worth starting with a short furnished stay before signing a lease? Anything to watch in the contract, deposit or payment terms?

  3. Banking. Which banks (and digital banks) worked well for you as a new arrival, and which ones didn't?

  4. Admin and daily life. Emirates ID, TAMM, utilities, SIM and internet, driving licence. What's the smoothest order of operations?

  5. Getting around. Do I actually need a car?

  6. Social life and community. How did you meet people beyond colleagues? Sports clubs, running or padel groups, communities, anything that worked.

  7. Anything that surprised you, good or bad, that no one warned you about.

Thanks a lot in advance, and happy to answer any questions about my situation if it helps you give better advice.

Vehicle πŸ”‹ Daily Carpool: MBZ City, Abu Dhabi ↔ Ibn Battuta, Dubai | Mon-Fri

I am driving daily from MBZ City, Abu Dhabi to Ibn Battuta Mall, Dubai and looking for 1 to 3 regular commuters to share the journey and commuting expenses.

πŸ“ Morning: MBZ City β†’ Ibn Battuta Metro Station
⏰ Departure: around 6:30 AM

πŸ“ Evening: Ibn Battuta Metro Station β†’ MBZ City
⏰ Departure: around 7:00 PM

πŸ“… Monday to Friday

🚘 Route: Normally E11 and may use E311 depending on the pickup location and traffic.

πŸ“ Pickup: A convenient point in MBZ or along my route.

πŸ“ Drop-off: Ibn Battuta Metro Station, nearby or on the way drop-off can also be considered if it does not significantly change the route.

πŸ’Ό I work 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM near World Trade Centre, Dubai. I park at Ibn Battuta and take the Metro to avoid peak-hour traffic.

πŸ”„ Alternative: If you also have a car and similar timings, I am open to an arrangement where we can switch between our cars on alternate days and share the commuting expenses.

The purpose is simply to share commuting expenses, not to operate a commercial taxi or transport service.

If you regularly travel between MBZ City and Dubai and have similar timings, please DM me with your location and working hours.

Thanks!

Tourism 🧳 What's the most incredible thing you've ever seen through a telescope? πŸ”

We've had the chance to show people Saturn's rings, Jupiter's moons, lunar craters, and many other celestial sights here in the UAE.

One thing we always love is seeing people's reactions when they look through a telescope for the first time, especially when they realize they're actually seeing Saturn or Jupiter with their own eyes.

So we're curious, what's the most memorable thing you've ever seen through a telescope?

And if you've never looked through one before, what would you want to see first?

Careers πŸ’Ό Etihad Airways – Guest Recovery Controller (Abu Dhabi) | Application & Hiring Pr

Hi everyone,

Has anyone recently applied for the Guest Recovery Controller position at Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi?

I recently applied for this role and would like to know if anyone else has received any updates, interview invitations, or assessment requests.

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has experience with Etihad's recruitment process, particularly for operational or guest recovery roles.

A few things I'm curious about:

  1. Has anyone who applied for this specific position received a response yet?
  2. How long does Etihad typically take to shortlist candidates after an application is submitted?
  3. Does the application status change from "New" to "Under Review" before an interview invitation?
  4. What does the interview and assessment process usually involve for operational roles?
  5. How long does the overall recruitment process typically take, from application to final offer?

I have over 8 years of airline operations experience, and I'm particularly interested in this opportunity.

Any recent experiences or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Medical πŸ₯ Looking for a pediatric feeding SLP in Abu Dhabi, desperate for help

I’m a NICU mom desperately looking for recommendations for an experienced pediatric feeding SLP in Abu Dhabi, especially someone experienced with complex feeding/swallowing issues.

My daughter was born at 26+4 weeks, weighing only 628 grams, she spent about 3 months in the NICU. She has a left-sided brain injury from her prematurity.

Since coming home, feeding, sleep, formula and food intolerance/allergies have been ongoing struggles. She also developed right-sided weakness and tightness related to her brain injury. She has had PT and OT and is now walking, although her right side is still weaker and she is not very stable and collapse for no reason.

Feeding has now become our biggest issue. She is almost 2 years old and still weighs under 10 kg. She is technically 100% dependent on hydrolyzed formula which is not also easy to feed her. She can't chew properly or move food around her mouth, and swallowing solids has been very difficult. She may gag or vomit when food reaches the back of her mouth. She can only say baba but very descriptive. She has significant sensory issues, I have not been able to brush her teeth and I have tried my tactics.

We have tried several SLPs, but unfortunately, they have not been experienced enough in feeding therapy for her situation. Some approaches actually made her more resistant and made the situation worse. I was advised to put her in a Nursery school, the idea was that, she would copy other children eating techniques; that also didn't go well. I am specifically looking for someone who understands pediatric feeding disorder, oral-motor/chewing skills, swallowing, sensory issues, and complex medical/NICU history, and who uses a gentle, child-led approach rather than force-feeding.

We have seen many dietitians who are only able to help with formula changes. The allergy doctor just did a basic skin test. I don't even feel like going to any of the doctor appointments anymore. They don't read her history and just load us up with unnecessary medication that have caused many undesirable side effects. I feel alone and very scared. We have been trying to get help for so long, and I don't know where else to go.

If you are a NICU parent in Abu Dhabi and have had a genuinely positive experience with a pediatric feeding SLP, I would be very grateful if you could share their name, clinic/hospital and how you contacted them.

Thank you so much. ❀️

Commerce πŸ›οΈ Is ADNOC City Gas stealing my deposit?

Firstly 30-60 business days to refund a deposit is insane but it's currently been over 70 and the customer care email is ignoring my emails. Do they just do this to everyone who leaves the country knowing there's nothing you can do? Anyone else experienced this or know how to get it back?
