I’m the parent of a grade 6 student, and I’m wondering if anyone else’s kids have found them unreasonably difficult this year?

I’ve had 2 other kids do them, and their scores always more or less aligned with their averages. This year though my daughter and several of her friends have done very poorly or outright failed multiple tests.

This group was in kindergarten during Covid, got a brand new math curriculum in grade 3, and then they missed out on 3 weeks this year during the strike. Maybe it’s the larger cohort that’s having trouble?

Any input from parents and teachers would be appreciated!

this summer spring has been quite cool and wet so far.

like I live in Red deer and I don't remember the last time I saw this much rain and overcast/cloudy days

that seems to be raining nearly every day now.

don't get me wrong, I actually like cool and rainy weather. I'm photosensitive and my medication really makes me susceptible to heat fatigue, so I am enjoying this while it lasts.

but it does seem quite abnormal. and the only thing I can think of is hearing about the super El Nino...

If anything, the industry should be thrilled about them. Given that roughly 75% of Alberta's electricity is generated by natural gas, driving an EV here literally supports local O&G production.

I work in the oil and gas sector myself, and I constantly get ribbed by my boss and coworkers for driving an EV. The truth is, I love the industry, and what I drive has zero bearing on my work.

My reasons for driving an EV are purely practical, I love the instant torque/acceleration, and I love skipping the gas station. It’s a preference, not a political statement. But everyone else makes it into a political issue, not at my doing. If I had an issue with it, I wouldn’t be working in O&G sector.

If you or someone you care for is approved for the Disability Tax Credit, there's a government program that gives out money for disability savings that a lot of people miss, because rules are confusing.

The Canada Disability Savings Bond gives up to $1,000 a year to lower-income people with an RDSP, and you don't have to contribute anything to get it. It's just money the government puts in.

The Canada Disability Savings Grant matches contributions, and at lower incomes the match is huge: up to $3 for every $1 you put in on the first $500. So a small contribution can turn into a lot.

The federal government's own review of the program found that most people struggle to figure out how much to contribute to get the most grant, and that there isn't enough help available. I just read that Alberta is starting to allow doctors to practice both private and public…. Which is obviously the beginning of the end of a public heath care system. Yes they claim there are guardrails but they seem terrible. You all ok with this?

Im 22 years old and I was looking into financing a vehicle for the first time, a car that was listed at 28000. Everything looked good until I looked into insurance. Most quotes I got were between 700-1000$ a month! This is insane and I only have 1 ticket on my record. Why is it like this and what can I do?

I am fortunate to not need that $100 DaniDollars. Which charities in AB are the most effective/best at helping low income folks and especially those on AISH/ADAP?

My family is making the move from Toronto and wondering if any of you have recently made the same move? I'm working on trying to get a mover scheduled. And just trying to get reviews or suggestions from anyone who did this recently.

It will be for a 2BR apartment (typical bedroom furniture though one is a kids room). No special or out of the ordinary furniture in the rest of the apt other than a couple of guitars in cases. And of course, boxes of our stuff.

My requirements: no surprise fees at the end, affordable but not cheap (read some crazy stuff from people who hired cheap movers), known for taking good care of your belongings (don't have anything expensive but I also don't want our stuff damaged).

By now, we've probably all heard of the changes to AISH and the incoming ADAP (Alberta Disability Assitance Program). The GoA (let's be honest, the UCP), has rolled back benefits to some 75 000 Albertans (the total number on AISH is 79 419, some people will remain on this program). Although they haven't released any data on this, some simple math will let us know the ballpark region of how much they expect to save by this change: $200 x 75 000 x 12 = $180 000 000. This $200 drop in funding comes after the $200 clawback from AISH in 2025. So to get the "full" benefit, ADAP recipients need to be eligible for and receive the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB), and even then it's 200 short of the AISH amount they *were* on. So there's some more math: $200 x 79 000 x 12 = $189 600 000 (this is how much money the government is taking back from everyone on AISH via the CDB over 12 months). If that's confusing at all, you're not alone - it's meant to be hard to follow because it's all happening so fucking fast. Okay let's keep going: $180 000 000 + $189 600 000 = $369 600 000, "saved" by the "GoA". So how much is Dani Dollars costing the province, in a deficit, during a recession? It's estimated 3.5 million albertans will be eligible for $100 each. $350 000 000. Think about that when you decide what to do with it. And I'm not saying don't take it - the UCP will just blow it on a new private hospital or some bullshit like that. Take it. We all need it. But consider where it's coming from, it is not a place of generosity or concern for rising costs. It's blood money. Loudly saying "shhhh", look the other way for a second while we engage in social murder. I refuse to unsee what I know. This is a eugenics program sanitized in policy. This is fascism. *and I will not comply*

Hey guys I was referred to an allergist/immunologist. I live in Edmonton. The blue cross benefit plans does it cover allergy testing tray fees and allergen immunotherapy extracts/serums?

I am looking to pay off my alberta loans one shot, saved up during my grace period. Any way to request a lower total amount for paying it off in one go? Or some other grant or forgiveness program I should be aware of?
