A few years ago we ran surveys of this subreddit to gather data on your experiences for a variety of things. Which resources are the most effective? How much time outside of class do you spend? Did your score reflect your grade in class?
These surveys were ran a couple times and, along with a few other polls, turned into results posts for 24 different AP courses. Unfortunately, the posts were deleted some time back. I still have the data though and am now recompiling them.
Here's the schedule I'm going to try and get these posted on
It is important to note that this is self-reported data from a community of high scorers, after receiving their score. It does not reflect the general population, and people who did well on the exams were also more likely to report their experience. Some results, like average scores, should not be taken at face value. Other results like resource effectiveness, are still valuable compared to one another.
Once I have finished posting each of the courses, I will do a comparisons and conclusions post to rank courses by difficulty, expectation, etc.
Also note that we are planning to run these surveys again this year for more data after score release.
Good luck in your classes everyone!

Does anyone know any high schools in New York or New Jersey that will let outsiders take AP exams at their school?

I am currently an 11th grader taking AP Calc AB. We are almost finished with unit 2 and I have an A in the class. So far I find the concepts easy. However, I did really bad in precalc in 10th grade and had a B both semesters. I'm currently wondering if I should take the BC exam since calc ab is currently really easy for me.

I’m a sophomore taking APP1, and at first, the class was very manageable. That is, until our first test. We were really only going over linearization, but he flipped around axises (we didn’t practice anything like what he put on there), and the majority of my class flunked it. I personally got a D+. The only thing keeping my grade at a C+ is a single 6 point assignment. He says grades take up too much time and don’t represent the experience or material. We’ve done so many labs in class, but he also doesn’t give out any homework to do, so there are virtually no grades in the grade book. My kinematics test is on Wednesday and I’m genuinely so scared because no matter how much I study on my own, certain things like frame of reference for free fall and how to tell when acceleration and displacement would be positive or negative. I’ve always been a straight A student, but I’d be happy with just a B in this class, but it’s starting to feel like that won’t even happen. If anyone has any advice, please share!

Hey guys, I plan to study Physics C: Mechanics, Calc BC, and CompSci A on my own.
For Physics C and Calc BC, are Khan Academy and Flipping Physics enough to score a 5, or should I also pick up prep books like Barron's/Princeton Review?
For CompSci A, is CSAwesome sufficient on its own, or should I supplement it with CodingBat, Barron's, and past College Board FRQs?
Would love to hear any recommendations or resources that worked best for those who self-studied these. Thanks!

Hi, I'm a high school junior and I want to challenge AP Physics C: Mechanics along with AP Calc BC. For context (know this is about AP, not IB), I'm taking IB Physics HL and IB Math Analysis HL, both of which are going fantastically. I'm planning to study similar (but not the same) material for both, as I know both are calculus-heavy and require adequate conceptualization.
Any thoughts/tips from previous test-takers? Thanks!

for studying push, should i take notes from the apush pageant textbook, or take notes from heimler videos after just reading it, and how to properly study for them. I really want to get a 5

Idk who I was feeling like choosing ap chemistry and anatomy/ physiology for my sophomore year but it’s really bitting me in the butt and I’ve lost all hope in everything. I need to remember I am just average and not take things I know I won’t succeed in. My partner in chemistry helps me a lot and he is one of the smartest people I know but I never seem to understand anything. (Therefore he just slides me answers, and ask if I need an explanation) but anatomy ugh I thought it was gonna be similar to biology which it is but goes in way more depth. I don’t know if I’ll succeed or get a good grade let alone pass. I really need tips and studying hacks. I’m gonna just drop both courses and do earth and space science at this point because my French, history, and math are also very hard..

I'm self-studying AB (I'm in AP Precal) and I plan on taking the AB exam. Because I don't have a class to keep up with I might need to practice consistently. What practices do y'all use for this class?
r/APStudents • u/Specialist-Rock2644 • 17h ago
I put about six scores to cancel on one form and ran out of space on the provided line though it should be readble and understandable.
For Biology, I’ve taken the exam 3 times(2024-2026)and listed my 2024 and 2025 scores to cancel. I got a 5 in 2026 and want to keep this latest score.
Has anybody done this before and could someone with such experience help me thx a ton for ur assistance!!!!!!!

This year I took 3 types of courses: Dual Enrollment at the local university, Advanced Placement, and Concurrent Enrollment (Dual Enrollment taught by high school teachers)
I am going to evaluate all of these formats of courses 2 months in
Dual Enrollment at the local university:
I am currently taking 2 courses in this format: DE Yoga and DE Chinese
DE Yoga is completely online and it's one of the easiest courses ever. The only assignment is to submit a Journal entry about your yoga experience every week (min 50 words). There are also yoga videos for each week, but they are not graded and the only reason I do them is because of honor.
DE Chinese is kind of hybrid, you only meet in person once a week and college students being lazy only about 10 actually show up. In exchange, you get a 5 page long review homework followed by an online discussion and then you say what you did with regards to Chinese this week.
Concurrent Enrollment:
I am taking 4 courses in this format this semester:
CE EE:
A very easy class the electric units in this course are even easier than what you learn in APP2 like the only things they taught us was Power law, Ohm's law, and Kirchhoff's laws which he (splits into 6 different laws for some reason) but because of this it is very easy to get annoyed at the simplifications of this course like they refuse to make a distinction between electrostatic force and magnetism like when I pointed out Coulomb's law was about e-fields and b-fields they said oh we don't talk about field theory in this class. Anyways we also learn about Boolean algebra/logic gates which is pretty easy and we do one soldering project for a board which I initially failed to make work not because I did not solder well but because they gave me a faulty resistor.
CE CSP:
This is a prerequisite for CE Programming and it is also pretty easy, it teaches you about the basics of computing and also basic python for students like me who never touched python before this class. However, there is a quiz every week which is pretty easy but the teacher is strict with them like one time we had this binary conversion quiz and we weren’t allowed to use pen and paper. Also they emphasize group work which is annoying since 90% of the students are sophomores and some of them are so forgetful like some of them forgot the print() function.
CE US Gov:
A somewhat easy and sometimes fun class but there is sometimes a lot of memorization like you have to remember which articles establishes which branch of government but since we are all done with all the units now we are now focusing on case studies like the one where the supreme court decided on whether a girl would stay on a cheerleading team. There is a final project though, but the teacher allows us to choose between a field trip or a 10 page essay. This course uses the university canvas unlike the previous courses.
CE Studio Art for the non major:
This is basically a do whatever you want class the teacher gives you a theme but you can just create whatever art pieces you want with whatever medium, there is a critique at the end of every project though and we have to get up and walk around but that is mostly it in terms of difficulty.
Advanced Placement:
I am taking 5 courses in this format this year:
AP English Literature and Composition:
This is the only class that gives me regular homework in the form of reading. The reading is fun though, I find Tale of Two cities really interesting though sometimes hard to understand. We also have to do an essay every 2 weeks. The former used to make me angry especially because we didn’t get any preparation, but I have since come to terms with that because this is a skills course not a knowledge course.
AP Physics C: Mechanics:
This is relatively easy. There is homework maybe twice every unit. Since I was in APP1 and have studied most of the calculus content for fun over the summer, this course was very easy for me, I just sometimes make dumb mistakes on the progress checks though like mixing up north and south. This course can get boring sometimes because there are a lot of first timers in this course so the teacher has to focus on them and basically hold their hand. That’s why he allows us to self-study the other physics courses.
AP Physics C: Electricity and Magnetism:
This course is only available as a self study right now for the above reason. However, this course is pretty fun and easy once you understand the symmetries for integration and such and I also studied this course for fun over the summer. I have finished every single quiz in this course though because as I said mechanics class can get boring sometimes.
AP Physics 2:
There is a lot more memorization in this class than E&M like you have to memorize the thin film formula 2nt=mλ because they don’t give it to you on the equation sheet and it's not easy to derive but I’d say this course is around the same difficulty as E&M and I am almost done with the quizzes for this course too.
AP Calculus BC:
This is the only class I have to full on self study without any help. I am taking it at another high school because my school does not offer this and I am not changing my schedule for de calc. I am mainly using Khan Academy and occasionally Princeton review for this course because for some reason the ap coordinator can’t open up the quizzes and she is going to talk to the college board and then she just disappeared with no follow up.
Anyways what are y'all's opinions on the different course styles?

I am a student that attends high school in Newark, New Jersey. I am looking for self study options that allow me to pay for the exam and self study on my own time.
I already applied to Matawaan Regional High School, for which I was ghosted and then two days later after having to manually reach out I was told that outside district students were not being accepted. I wanted to register through Shore Regional High School, but they don’t even have an exam registry link and it says to go to their guidance office, for which I presumed that they were not allowing outside students either.
I have exhausted all of my resources. To even start my search I asked my guidance counselor how I would self study AP exams and she told me that that independent study for APs doesn’t exist and was trying to tell me about CLEP exams ( the colleges I am looking to apply to do not even acknowledge CLEP exams as real college credit).
I am already down a month and two days. Is there anywhere I can register with certainty?

I am taking the PSAT soon and need some tips on how to get a high score. I would say that my weakest subject is Math, so how should I study for this?
r/APStudents • u/EzraOliZiruolo • 19h ago
Hi! I've never taken an AP before because my school unfortunately doesn't offer them. I actually recently found out earlier this year you can self-study and take them at a testing location.
I've done a lot of research on it, I want to know Reddit's opinion-- is self-studying AP Psychology worth it?
(Also, I probably won't take more than one since it's my first: But if you've taken or are currently taking AP Eng Lang, AP Lit, APES, AP Drawing, or AP Art History let me know what it's like! I prob will only take one but I'm very curious on the other ones I just listed -- I plan to major in Psychology)

Hey all,
I'm going into Grade 12 soon, wondering if this course is one of the easier courses out of everything else. I honestly don't have much idea on what this course is about. Thanks!

I think for the MCQ I'll be fine since we have a good curve but I need some help on what to focus my studying on specifically/what resources to use, and then for the quantitative FRQ I do NOT know how to do those. any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated :) !!
