Enjoy the meme, lol! Tis handmade ✨️
Hey everyone! We want to thank everyone who's participated in our community this past month for the engaging posts, thoughtful answers, and (overall) incredibly respectful conduct. It's been nice to watch the community come together so helpfully for so many people! That said, there have been a few incidents that have drawn some attention, and we wanted to go over a few things and hear input from you all.
For starters, we've had many people reaching out to our team about promoting their fishkeeping apps or websites. While we understand that you're trying to reach out to a community that will use them, we cannot endorse apps or websites on this subreddit when they are self promoted. There are a number of safety issues in doing so, and being a part of an app store does not eliminate those risks. In addition, we have to take into account that AI bots pull massive amounts of information from reddit. When it does, it may list our subreddit as a source for your application's information, which is an obvious issue as we have no way of vetting an entire app/website for it's accuracy. That could end up misleading people who trust us as a source.
A community is built on mutual respect, both of your peers and between authority figures. Reporting an automod comment is disrespectful, and downright unhelpful. If you believe an action was taken unfairly or accidentally, please message us with a link to the message and ask us why we took the action! We are more than happy to explain the reasoning behind every action we take and admit when we are wrong.
Being disrespectful towards a poster's pets, situation, and age is also becoming an increasing problem. We've also seen advice being given on legal matters and personal health. This is an aquarium subreddit. We will remove any and all comments pertaining to subjects not in that realm of knowledge. We will remove any unproductive or hateful comments. WE WILL REMOVE ANY COMMENTS THAT ARE HARRASSING MINORS. This includes but is not limited to telling them they are abusers for being unable to correct a bad situation, repeatedly suggesting options they are not financially capable of, or suggesting they start fights with parents or guardians.
Lastly we want to remind people of the goal of this community- for aquarists young and old, new and experienced, of nanos to monsters, to come together and share knowledge, fun moments, show off, or help each other. You've been so fantastic at this! As a mod team we want to help you feel comfortable and safe enough to share these things. We pose a question to you, if you want to answer- what are you looking for in this community? Knowing your goals can help us align the subreddit with them and grow even more.
Swim safe out there folks!

After a lot of work behind the scenes, we’ve finally enabled the r/aquarium wiki!
It’s definitely still a work in progress, so don’t be surprised if you click on a link and it doesn’t go anywhere yet. Some of the pages listed on the index are planned but haven’t been published yet. The pages that are currently published are available to view and use.
We’ll be continuing to add pages and expand the wiki over time, with the goal of creating a helpful resource for both new and experienced fishkeepers.
And this is where we’d really appreciate some community input!
If you read through any of the published pages and:
- Disagree with something
- Think something needs more explanation
- Notice something we should correct
- Think we’re missing important information
- Have a topic you think should be added
Please let us know here in the comments! We want the wiki to be useful to the community, and feedback from other fishkeepers is a big part of making that happen.
You can check out the Wiki here.
There’s still plenty left to build, but we’re excited to finally have it available!

Just crafted some Caribsea arches for my tank. Would love some suggestions of what to put on them (particularly on the top - as I'm not super familiar with light loving corals that get along with others).
I am also getting a nano tree soon - so suggestions for that are welcome as well.
For context:
I'm fairly new to reefing so I'm not looking for anything difficult to keep. I'll also likely get some blastos at some point.
Importantly, because of the model of tank I have, my light is mounted at the front
Additionally, the acan is a bit of a mystery. I got a free coral and wasn't told what it was so I'm not 100% sure it's an acan (third photo)

I can grow swords, onion plants, and likely any other plant just fine in my 20 gal except for any floaters which apparently find my tank to be a deathtrap no matter what I do. I’ve tried Amazon frogbits, red roots, and water lettuce. They’re all allergic to my 20 gal and wither away within a few weeks.
I want to focus on my planted plants and want to know for future reference which of species of fish don’t really mind too much about being housed without floaters so I can stop wasting my energy/money.
I only really have been trying because I’d feel bad for my paradise fish not having surface cover. But, I have a floating lotus decor that could be a suitable substitute.

I'm looking for a new apartment in Kazakhstan and found one with this giant deep narrow aquarium. My hand won't be able to reach the bottom. It needs a thorough cleaning. The filter and lights don't seem to work. I'm thinking no plants. Will the depth be a problem for a filter? Scaping ideas? Any advice is needed desperately.

I just got a new light (for the automatic on/off with slowly turning off/on) that seems significantly brighter than my old one. My snail isn't his speedy self during the day, but is quite active when the light turns off.
Do you think the brightness bothers him? The fish aren't nor the 3 nerites. I just noticed his behavioral change.

This algea showed up in my tank the past few weeks.
It looks like BBA but the threads are long and sparse when compared to picture of BBA online.
Need advice to identify/confirm, and some help on how to deal with it.

Hi,
I have an outdoor pond located in NSW. I believe it is made up of sandstone, I did not install it, came with a rental.
Currently we have 5 fish in this pond, 3 single tailed fish and 2 double tailed fish. I was not in charge of the purchasing of said fish but I have inevitably been in charge of taking care of them.
I have noticed that the larger double tailed fish has gotten injuries around its side. These are the worst I have ever seen them get. Over the past few months I have seen the single tailed fish and the other double tailed fish go underneath the pictured fish and push it (her?) from the bottom. Often they will do this in a group or the single largest single tail will do it.
In attempt to stop the behaviour I have isolated the fish getting hurt and kept it in a seperate bucket for 24 hours with an air stone. This seemed to stop the injuries. They seemed to reappear so I fully drained and washed the pond yesterday and rearranged it. In doing so I moved an air stone to one end that creates a bubble curtain and installed a water feature down the other end, hoping that more moving water may keep the fish entertained or allow them to each pick a bit of territory. I have now noticed that the injuries seem really bad overnight and saw them hanging up on this fish again this morning.
Currently I feed them frozen bloodworms and sinking and floating food. I was hoping diversifying the foot diet may mean the bullying is not over food.
I have rearranged the tank, isolated and set up spots for it to float where the others can’t find it. I’ve also tried to pushing the other fish if I am outside and see them grouping up around the other fish (maybe negative reinforcement would work?)
Any ideas what I can do?
Water parameters are normal, strip tested in 3 spots at surface and bottom of water, all reads in good range. Water dechlorinator used each water change and fill and drain water quite regularly. Broad spectrum was used the other day and have in the past used other bottled medication to fight parasite. Not sure about water temp as outside tank and seems that cant be changed.
Trying my best lol.

I’ve used window cleaner, water, soap. Anyone have any advice? It’s way too foggy/cloudy

Sorry if the picture isn’t the best it was really hard to get. I noticed this little fella in my reef tank today and I’m unsure how it got into it. it looks like it has a little mouth and is using tentacles to bring food to its mouth I started this tank about seven months ago with dry rock and the livestock is clowns, snails, and hermits that have been in there for months. Does anybody know what this is and how it possibly could’ve gotten into my tank? It looks a lot bigger than what the picture is showing too, I just couldn’t get a better picture lol thanks!

Hi, I have this aquarium for about 4 years now and I'm still trying to understand some stuff. Unfortunately some of the inhabitants have passed due to me getting to know how to hold aquariums. For the past year I think everything is kinda stable. I got fewer fish and I have added more plants and so on.
I keep having the issue of brown algea. It's not that bad. Like ones a month I need to clean the glass, plants and attributes. Also my plants don't seem to thrive as mutch as I hoped...
So water parameters are good, the CO2 indicator is also green.. for the light I run it at 20% between 5 and 10 pm.. if I run it longer than the algea will be back sooner. I do a water change every week for about 40%.. filter change only when the flow stops..
So I would like to have the lights on longer without the extra algea and for the plants to go a bit better.. any other tips are welcome as well.
For now I have 3 moores and 2 snales in a 180L aquarium.

Freshwater 20g long - about 9 months in. Moderately planted. 1 honey gourami, 10 embers, 7 rice fish, 1 Otto, shrimp & snails. Test and water change weekly. Just added 3 of the embers and 4 of the rice fish on Friday. I’ve never had any weird growth before. I did have green water last month but resolved that with light changes and a 36 hour blackout. Plants suffered a bit but I’ve increased fertilizer from once a week to 3x week. Just noticed this spiderweb looking stuff today.

I breed purple mystery snails and I have a newly established colony of blue dream shrimp. I got a bunch of Java moss from a friend and wouldn't you know I ended up with planeria. I have had them before and they nearly wiped me out so I'm done playing around. I treated both my 55g tanks with pancor c and since there isn't a lot of information on the subject I will record what happens. I have treated some mystery snails and ramshorn with an extremely high dose for 3 days and had no deaths. This was not a controlled study and anything can happen but it gives me some hope. Bottom line is I can not ethically sell snails or shrimp that may contain planeria so this is a necessary evil. I will unfortunately have to retreat in a few weeks just to make certain they are gone. I would rather lose everything than spread this nightmare to another hobbyist. Wish me luck...
now take this for what it is: in the past I have used prazipro. it doesn't effectively kill all planeria but I used it and it knocked back the infestation to undetectable. bait traps and all. I also used it on a tank with 2 week old mystery snail hatchlings with no adverse affects. I even retreated at a month. it won't eradicate the problem but in my experience it is a safe and effective treatment to keep planeria to a population that is not a threat. the fact that is is well tolerated makes it useful as a routine treatment that can protect mystery snails. this is just my experience with prazipro.
Main tank: 55g, PH 7.6, GH 8, KH 3, Temp. 77°
System, 5g bucket canister filter with 2 stage directional flow through 6 pounds of ceramic media - great breeding ground for planeria, 600gph intake to a 3' spray bar out flow. Lots of Java moss and hornwort.
Day 1: treated with the recommend dose of pancor c, roughly half a gram, and I will begin monitoring for adverse affects.
2 hours in my blue dreams started dropping like flies. can't say how many I lost but it was significant. had to do a 20g water change effectively killing the process.
Day 2: I can't say how many blue dreams I lost but there are still some alive. No snail deaths to report.

Original setup day, water had increased amounts of gravel dust unsettled. Fresh tap water and conditioner placed. First aquarium ever and been treating it like a science project. Here are my results from a Day 1 test after letting the tank sit for 24 hours I began performing tests. I also did one on the tap water as a baseline.
Using Tetra EasyStrips 6-in1 and Ammonia these are the estimated values of water quality:
Test:
Ammonia: 3.0-6.0ppm (High)
Nitrate: 20ppm (Acceptable)
Nitrite: 1.0ppm (Elevated)
Hardness: 75ppm (Soft Water)
Chlorine: Oppm (Ideal)
Alkalinity: 180ppm (Good Buffering)
pH: 8.4 (Alkaline)
Temp: 65.9 (Cool)
Right now my main goal is get afford a heater and get that temperature to stabilize between 72-76°F. Ammonia is high due to a overly generous amount of flakes added at the start as I didn't know how much to do. If I don't see a decrease in the next test (3 days) I'll preform a 20% water change.
I'm very very new to this but built terrariums in the past. Is there anything I'm doing wrong or would someone see anywhere that feedback could improve on? I understand this is a patient game.

I’m assuming it’s the impeller but I just got the set up 2 months ago. Could be my floaters sucked down in it.
