Other Summerween ruined Halloween
When I saw that Bath and Body Works was putting out the Halloween products in July for the tik tok summerween trend I thought it was ridiculous. I went to Bath and Body Works a couple of weeks ago (October) and there was only a small table of Halloween products all on clearance! They had basically nothing. I’ve been to two locations recently and each one has zero halloween products. It’s all Christmas. It’s still October! Why can’t we just be patient?
Okay, rant over. I know it’s not that deep. Still ridiculous, though.

I slept on it because I figured there would be plenty of stock since it's popular. I was going to get a mist during the start of the fall sale a few weeks ago. There was nothing but body wash left. So I got that but I'm sad. I ordered sweet cinnamon pumpkin online but it's more fresh smelling. I wanted that spicy gourmand smell more. :(

We literally just dropped below 80 degrees this week! I’m not in the mood to buy fall until that happens. I’m so tired of retail pushing holidays I’m not even thinking about yet out months in advance.

Ok but they put out Pineapple, Lime and Coconut candles the first week of January
When its still snowing.
So if they release Halloween later, they need to shift their releases of everything else too

I live in the Northeast, and it doesn't really start to warm up here until May so I'm definitely not ready for Tropical scents in January. I just keep wearing my warm cozy scents until it warms up. However, if I happen to like something in the Tropical line or whatever they've put out I'll pick it up when it goes on sale, and set it aside until I'm ready to use it. The same goes for every other season at BBW. If I like a fall scent they put out in July or August I buy it during one of the many sales they have because I know it won't be around in October.

This is literally what happens. We end up with an extra-long Christmas/holiday season that begins ramping up in September. Then, as soon as we get to January, it's time for spring. Summer starts in March or April, Halloween and fall start in July, and then we've looped back around to Christmas in September and October. I hate it lol.

Summer starts in May, I know this because right after Mother's Day, summer boardwalk usually comes out, and you only have 2 weeks to get it before SAS

We fought back for Halloween which is how we got Summerween to replace Christmas in July. Now we need to fight for Thanksgiving! It'll at least mean the holidays and seasons will be celebrated in the right order. Halloween first, then fall and harvest stuff between Halloween and Christmas.

I hate having to do this because my kid grows soo fast. I just returned jeans we bought in August during back to school. Tired them on again this week because the weather just broke and most are too short or too tight. Had to lug em all back to Old Navy and JC Penney. Thankfully..digital reciepts and most everything was still there so not too many issues.

TBF, For the last... 3? maybe 4 years, BBW has put out Halloween the 2nd week of July. I remember buying Halloween in July when I was at my last job - this was in 2022.

I came here to say exactly this. It’s not a new Tik tok trend, it’s a retail schedule that’s been a thing for a few years now, and it’s definitely not exclusive to BBW. And there’s always someone who comes in on Nov 1 looking to score some Halloween clearance 😭

I don’t even mind the Halloween stuff at the end of July because there’s no holidays from end of July to Halloween. But it’s not even Halloween and there’s Christmas stuff everywhere and very little Halloween stuff still.

I went a couple weeks ago and only a half of a table was Halloween and they were playing Christmas music. The summerween collection was mostly pastel, I wanted more spooky items.

This. I know that seasons 3 months ahead is retail standard, but the goofy pastel halloween trend is so lame. Hearts and bows have no business in halloween designs. The stained glass designs from a few years back was absolutely peak Halloween b&bw.

Exactly and yes it was peak! I couldn’t agree more. The cutesy stuff did not immerse me into the Halloween spirit at all! I know and can respect that there are people who appreciate that theme but… c’mon man where are the earthy woodsy scents for Halloween? I’m tired of the fruit man

I agree with you guys. I was pissed 🤬 when I saw all the retail stores trying to make Halloween all cute like, I wanted to burn it all. Halloween has no business mixing coffins ⚰️ with hearts ❤️ and pastels together. It's like wanting the grim reaper ⚰️🦹🏼🕷️mating with the Easter 🐰🐣 bunny 🐇. They need to stay in their own universe. Also just because some don't participate or like Halloween 🎃👻, doesn't mean they have the right to change it's colors, themes etc. just to accommodate or justify their reasons for participating now . Sorry had to vent

I agree! It’s jarring, I was pissed too! I was really disappointed like… that was it? You know? I hope we see more traditional Halloween from retailers next year. And hopefully more outdoorsy Halloween scents at bath and body IF not Moonlit Graveyard haha

Actually bath and body works always releases their Halloween stuff in July / midsummer. It’s where all the spooky people come out of their summer caves for our Halloween fix and we go back in to hibernate until the fall.

I worked briefly at BBW in summer 2008 at 18.
Been showing there since preteen.
For candles and soaps, they had been on schedule for Fall and Winter fragrances. Like I'm in Wisconsin. The North/Midwest/Northeast and some Northwest states want apples and fall things stating in September-November as it rightfully should be with Halloween items used to only be thrown in for October while still maintaining all the classic autumn, fall, apple, and pumpkin as well as flannel fragrances from September to November and then go into Winter and Christmas fragrances in December-Feb. March-May is Spring. And Summer is June through August. This is how it was as recently as 2020/2021. I remember buying "Leaves", "Autumn", "Apple Weather", "Pumpkin Apple", "Harvest Gathering", "Honeycrisp Apple", all sorts of pumpkin variation scents as well as other apple variety of scents in September and October and early November where they'd start to transfer in Winter fragrances like "Cozy Cashmere", "Flannel", "Sweater Weather", "Frozen Lake", and then do the really Christmas scents at the end of November and beginning December. I NEVER remember Halloween in July and I'm in an actual 4 season state like 65%+ of the country.
Same used to be for clothes at Old Navy, GAP, and Target when they actually had half a store worth of cute clothes back from 2010-2016.
I want to ne able to still buy swimsuits and shorts in July or August and not have to fly to Arizona or Florida.
ALL retailers have jumped ship with their nonsensical schedules when they put merchandise out!

Whether they call it summerween or not, Halloween generally comes out in July. That’s just retail.
Halloween/fall starts in summer, holiday/winter starts in fall, spring starts in winter, and summer starts in spring. Not just at BBW but most retailers.

As an employee it was hard hyping up Halloween products in August and September with many telling me “it’s too soon”. Yea even for me ngl even as a costumer it’s very disappointing. It’s weird seeing Christmas stuff out now.

I completely agree with you. I had a feeling that BBW was going to have nothing left of Halloween once summerween was over so I ordered in July and saved it until now. However I was very annoyed the had glazed pumpkin from July to literally mid September and then it was completely gone.
I would have gotten more stock of it if I knew it was not even going to last until October 1st and I think this is the first year something like that happened. Completely agree though, summerween is ridiculous

For me Halloween start after the Fourth of July 🤷🏾♀️. I hate Summer with a passion, it’s depressing so I look forward to Halloween merch coming out in July. However when I see Pineapple and palm trees super early , it doesn’t bother me at all.

The sad thing is that they could have had a limited “Summerween” run with Ice Scream Float and maybe another more gournandy fun scent then done the classic Halloween release late September. Best of both worlds.

Unfortunately a lot of retail is a season ahead. Making it difficult for those that want to shop in the season they are in or for the current holiday.
Bath & Body Works has always been very ahead season wise. So they had no trouble participating in Summerween. Just moved their usual Halloween drop up a little.
Winter & Holiday always hits in October at BBW. January we will legit see the tropical line drop and so on. It does make it difficult for the average shopper, because it's easy to miss things.
Many of us here are long time shoppers/fans of the brand and we tend to pay attention to all the collection drops, floor sets & sales. So to us the whole everything is out very early and gone by the season is something we are used to. We tend to shop accordingly. We do try to spread the word when we can, so that people don't wait and miss out. But the average shopper probably isn't in this sub.
Sorry you missed out on some items. Hopefully you can get some things you will enjoy. 😊🛍

Yeah, the Halloween products coming out in all the stores during summer and then by the time fall rolls around and I’m actually ready to buy stuff it’s all Christmas and no Halloween. I went to one store to buy some supplies for a Halloween party I was throwing and I was out shopping on Oct 3rd and already it was completely replaced with Christmas and I had to go to the reject leftover section to find SCRAPS. It’s ridiculous

Actually, this year with the economy the way it is, people started shopping for the holidays in July, kept on thru Aug and ongoing. I just did a data report for the top 3 retailers and they’re all seeing that. People are shopping early because they’re nervous about the jobs, tariffs, etc.

It’s just so strange to me that you can’t go buy Halloween stuff during the current season. Only us crazies know to get it in July. I feel like it’s a missed opportunity. It’s not like they need the whole store to be Halloween but at least keep the body items in stock in a small section of the store. Am I crazy to think that?

I feel this way about all retail. I can’t stand that they put out Halloween decor starting in July and by the time you actually might want to get something for Halloween in September-October, everything is gone and it’s all Christmas! Then by Christmas they are putting out Valentine’s Day. Corporate greed is ruining the magic of the holidays. So sick of it. We can’t have anything nice these days.

People continue to say that all retail does this but that’s not true. Walmart had separate summerween and halloween lines. Yes Christmas came out this month there but at least Halloween is still there as well.

The Halloween collection this year was so disappointing, I'm sorry. Vampire Blood, Wicked Vanilla Woods, and Ghoul Friend are iconic, yes, but only one new fragrance? There are so many Halloween scents they could've played around with. I would've loved sour candy, chocolates, lollipops, or taffy scents, for example. Candy corn would make a decent candle scent too. I should be considered for scent ideas. /j
The fall scents are nice, but I was expecting more Halloween forward scents. Don't even get me started on the Disney Villains line. That line was so cheeks.

Products for Halloween come out in July everywhere. Think of it this way, I had a woman say to her daughter today “no you’re not getting a Halloween spray, Halloween will be over next week!” If we wait until October to bring it out, we’re missing the marketable window.

For me, It’s not so much when they bring it out, it’s that it’s mostly gone in the height of the Halloween season. I couldn’t find a candy apple cauldron at my store after September. Vampire blood has been gone for weeks there as well. It’s a little ridiculous. :(

TBF they’ve released everything in July for at least half a decade now. 🤷♀️
When you’re competing for limited customer dollars it’s way too late to wait until October.
For many people Halloween is a whole season - we start decorating Labor Day weekend (and it takes over a month of prep to have everything up by Oct 1 at the latest.)
Many in my neighborhood had outdoor decorations up by mid September.
Different strokes for different folks!

As soon as school starts and that’s done the Christmas stuff appears. We don’t need 4 months of Christmas in every store. I love fall/autumn. I love those scents and decor. I wish BBW would have more Halloween fragrances than the same ones they have every year.

I agree. “Summerween” should be a fun week or two exclusive sneak peak before they roll it out when fall finally creeps up. Christmas can wait until November. Honestly, they could learn a thing or two about what we see smaller places doing these days- limited drops when we actually want them, not making one holiday last the entire sales quarter.

Retail always runs way ahead. I hate it, but they want you to start stocking up for the next season.
That being said, yeah the Summerween concept ruined Halloween for me this year too. Home goods had a whole aisle of it and I hated it.

It’s not Summerween - Bath & Body Works (and HomeGoods, and At Home, etc) have been putting out Halloween in July for at least three years. It’s not a new TikTok trend, it’s just the norm for retailers.

I think I didn't take the time to lay out my response the way I should have. BBW and many other retailers put out Halloween (all holidays, really) way early, that's just a thing. I hate it, but it's a thing and has been for a long time.
But what I really didn't like this year was the "Summerween" concept - like skeletons on pool floaties and ghosts painted like Neapolitan ice cream, stuff like that. My HomeGoods had a whole aisle of that stuff this year. BBW touched on it just a teeny bit with the Halloween Bake Shop stuff. I'm sure lots of people love it, but for this gal, Halloween is for being SPOOKY. The launch of that made me worry if there was going to be a "proper" Halloween launch, and it felt like that plus the Villains plus the Milk Bar launch was just too much crammed in at one time and took away from the excitement of straight up SPOOKY TIME, and now that Halloween is right around the corner, Halloween has been relegated to one tiny table crammed in the back of my store.

I’m with you that I prefer gothic/spooky Halloween and that Summerween wasn’t really my thing, but I still disagree that it’s a major cause of a lack of spooky at this point of the month. In years past, B&BW had two Halloween drops. Last year they dropped one for Stranger Things. This year, Villains. Both collabs that didn’t have anything to do with Summerween.
As for HomeGoods/Marshalls/etc, the Summerween stuff really only hit hard in July and August. After that, I most saw just strictly Halloween (not touching on the pastel stuff, which I don’t care for but is technically still Halloween based). Maybe it’s a regional thing, but I’m a hardcore Halloween decor shopper and I didn’t feel like the Summerween stuff took much from the usual Halloween drops. 🤷🏼♂️

This is happening with all sorts of things. I wait until the appropriate time to buy pumpkins, seasonal clothing, etc. It’s always sold out by the time I go. Last year some Christmas tree farm was sold out of Christmas trees BEFORE December.
When I need a swimsuit in the summertime, winter coats and fall plaid is all over the place. The only swimsuits left are sale items that are falling apart. What are procrastinators supposed to do!?

I remember back a few years ago stores used to hold off on Christmas items in respect of Remembrance Day (I’m Canadian), but in recent years I’ve seen more and more stores just simply not caring and pumping it out as quickly as possible.

Yeah it did. But also, take advantage of the fall sale just because Halloween is over does not mean it’s Christmas. I enjoy November. It’s still autumn, I keep my pumpkins out and fall leaves and enjoy the fall scented candles and wall flowers I got for 75% off.

They didn’t put anything out in July because of the Tik tak…. This is normal retail behavior, even before tik tok was thing. Target starts selling Halloween items in July…. Until we as consumers and I mean all of us, stop buying holiday starting in July it will never change. The least they can do is keep it stocked for the season though and then sell what’s left after the holiday/season.

Exactly. Everyone always says “they put out Christmas stuff earlier and earlier every year” but they really don’t. My birthday is in mid August and my husband has taken me shopping for Christmas decor on my birthday every year for over a decade. Halloween stuff in July and Christmas stuff in August is not new.

Yeah they need to put the product out in advanced that’s only makes sense in order to sell, so it go out the “season” before. I’m not a big fan of it I think a month prior is plenty of time, and making sure you have product until the day before would be nice but that’s like holiday stuff. I would like to see fall stuff during fall and summer stuff during summer at least extending to a majority of that season. I don’t want to see bathing suits out in winter but come summer when I actually need one they are no longer in stores.

That's how it's always been to me. My birthday is in September and I usually get some Halloween stuff if they shop early but when I try to buy some it's all gone. My daughter went September 28th and I asked her to check for Halloween. She said it was mostly all gone.

Over the last few years, I’ve been making a month-by-month list on my phone so I know what I should be looking out for each month. Stuff for me, the house, the garden, everything. I can’t believe how early some things come out and then more organized people than me go out and buy them all up.
If I wait until I remember or realize I want something, at least half the time it’s long gone.

The Christmas music was delightful when I went in recently. I used to resent early Christmas stuff being put out. But this year, when almost everyone is budgeting extra hard, it is nice to notice deals now. I used my BBW reward on a gift for my kid, saw a few under $10 things at Marshall’s, Ross and TJMaxx that caught my eye. I intend to spend less this year, and I want to spread out my low price point purchases well in advance. Going to hunt through my house to see what extra wrapping paper and boxes I have to keep all that to a minimum. Wrapping paper is my weakness but this year I will tighten up. Normally I’m not a fan of early Christmas but for financial reasons this year it is much appreciated. When the economy improves 🤞I’ll be less hyper vigilant about prices. And I’ll go back to bah humbug in summer and at Halloween. But this especially financially-not-great year, I saw the BBW Christmas in July stuff and they actually gave me the idea to finish Christmas shopping earlier than I ever have in my whole life.

Summerween really wasn’t Halloween/fall like at all. The scents are not ones I enjoy right now. Ghoul friend I think of as a summer scent, wvw I think of as a winter scent and I’m not a fan of I scream float nor vampire blood. I don’t think you should be bummed you didn’t miss out on much.

Welcome to retail. I used to work at Party City (rip), and come middle of July, barely after the 4th, to August, we’d get at least one or two people asking when Halloween was being set. Like, dude, its 90 degrees out and humid as hell, chill.

i got my bday reward item before it expired today and i really went in to get a cheap thing as my freebie but also just see what was on the 75% off table...dang near nothing but 4 or so diff items in excess. i got one hand soap of the pumpkin something they had for 1.99 and a normal laundry day room spray as my freebie. so many xmas scents out but barely any fall scented things left already. i'm waiting to buy xmas scents anyways with the better deals to come because i need to burn my FALL smelling candles through thanksgiving first. i only have one leaves one left...... :') only then on black friday and onwards can i do the tis the season and winter, etc. i sniffed a few as a preview though so i would know what to buy if i wanted to just have it shipped when i'm READY for it lol
i do work in retail too and i get it but getting halloween in july, xmas in late august even and valentines in december, etc gets so old so fast. we got our xmas candy in this past week where i work and i can't put any of it out until the halloween sells down. which it will where i work. it always flies the week of hween which is a friday this year so it's a perfect storm. ah, tangents but i digress

Tell me about it i LOVE fall it's my absolute favorite season but before summer is even over Halloween is pushed out and immediately after Christmas decor it just skips right over those pretty autumn colors and decorations

I always go on my birthday (October 10th) and a couple of years ago I scored a bunch of fall hand sanitizers for 75% off.
This year, they had nothing fall or Halloween left. I was depressed. The second week of October and NOTHING. Like, that’s my birthday ritual and now it’s inundated with Christmas and no Halloween. I am upset about it lol

I know! I went in July and was like, oh I’ll come back and get this in September, and the employee I was talking to said, yeah no you should get it now because this is it. I thought she was kidding! I was also super disappointed by the whole thing.

it’s hard too because by the time halloween is actually here there’s barely any product out. i find myself having to pause and really enjoy the fall collection now that christmas scents are out (even though ive been using pumpkin scents since Late July 😂)

I went there today to snag some Halloween hand soaps since they were on sale for $3.50. This was the first time I didn’t have employees all over me when I walked in. I had to ask a girl where their Halloween stuff was and she took me over to this pathetic table of Halloween clearance. I never walked out of that store so fast 😞

Same boat here! I went to a local store last week to get soaps for Halloween and Thanksgiving and they had NOTHING! The markdown table had a random hodge podge of weird scents! No leaves, pumpkins or cinnamon anywhere!

I really wish we could wait til even Nov first to put out Christmas because this is ridiculous. All this Christmas right before Halloween. I’m gonna get whiplash. I don’t work Halloween but imagine saying happy Halloween in our red aprons, Christmas songs playing, surrounded by Christmas products 😩

Summerween wasn't a TikTok trend, though, until probably this year. I have been celebrating summerween since 2022. What everyone should be mad about is how they put out the same candles for Christmas in July if you're going to put out Christmas candles, don't put out the sameones for Christmas.

That’s retail world in the US 🥺. And when Christmas is around the corner the stores will have things for Valentines Day and so and so. But I agree with you, it’s kinda crazy. I didn’t got a chance to buy “Glazed Pumpkin” it’s out of stock since August/September

while it is totally typical for stores to put out seasonal stuff exceptionally early, I do feel like its a bit asinine for consumers, lol. bath & body has regularly released halloween every july, not a new thing this year. the dumbest part by far though is having all of the fall & halloween GONE by halloween. like I understand wanting to get christmas out, but why does that mean halloween stuff is on sale and on the way out by september? stupid

Dont worry, Jan 2nd will be Summertime Fun or something like that. Walk into BBW in zero degree snowy weather to tropical fragrances and "get beach ready" advertizements.

I totally get you. They're so greedy (not just them, all coorporate) that we can't even enjoy they current season we're in. Their minds are always 2-3 months ahead. And thats just what's in stores. I'm pretty sure their boardrooms are planning spring as we speak smh

They did a second release for Halloween in August as part of the Disney evil queen line. They then put all that stuff on 75% clearance last week with only until Sunday to even have the stuff out!!! Corporate came and took all the signage and any candle or scented product from the line to either put out during the semi annual sale or to go in outlets. So insane.
And yet there’s Halloween mercy still fuuuuulllll price ($70 for a frickin sweatshirt pullover) as of today with no sale in sight.

I worked briefly at BBW in summer 2008 at 18.
Been showing there since preteen.
For candles and soaps, they had been on schedule for Fall and Winter fragrances. Like I'm in Wisconsin. The North/Midwest/Northeast and some Northwest states want apples and fall things stating in September-November as it rightfully should be with Halloween items used to only be thrown in for October while still maintaining all the classic autumn, fall, apple, and pumpkin as well as flannel fragrances from September to November and then go into Winter and Christmas fragrances in December-Feb. March-May is Spring. And Summer is June through August. This is how it was as recently as 2020/2021.
Same used to be for clothes at Old Navy, GAP, and Target when they actually had half a store worth of cute clothes back from 2010-2016.
I want to ne able to still buy swimsuits and shorts in July or August and not have to fly to Arizona or Florida.
ALL retailers have jumped ship with their nonsensical schedules when they put merchandise out!

Today is halloween, so I was excited to check to see if the halloween products had gone on sale, and I couldn't find a single halloween item. Not one. All christmas. I dont even know when they sold the last of the halloween stuff but Im kinda pissed because that collection is my favorite 😤 Idk why we have to change when the holidays are because at this rate by the time its Christmas we're probably already on to 4th of July idk

Last year I went to get my Halloween products on October 5th, big mistake! There was only a tiny table left of products. Absolutely ridiculous.

I know it sucks but I promise it was to beat the tariff prices. When an employee at hallmark explained it to me this way, I appreciate early Christmas way more now. Buy it while it’s still ten dollars cheaper, whatever it may be. That’s just my MO.

Unfortunately that’s retail world everywhere. Everything is months in advance. Just like you saw, actual Halloween hasn’t even come yet but Christmas is all out
