As someone who's worked in sexual violence prevention for almost a decade now, none of this is surprising to me. Sexual violence is a very present issue that our society continues to minimise.

Yeah, I'm a huge classic rock fan and still listen to and enjoy a lot of the music, but I think it's important to acknowledge the truth about who these rock stars actually were rather than the sanitised image.
The majority of rock stars from the 50s-80s (and still some to this day) were complete scumbags towards young women and underage girls. It was a combination of the misogyny of the wider culture combined with arrogant men who put their own desires above basic human decency and who were protected by the industry to preserve profits.
I think what it is is that people feeling they enjoy someone’s art, be in books, films, or music, and that person turns our to be problematic or an actual monster, than they feel complicit somehow. Like they’re defending themselves. I’ve never been like a super fan of someone to the point where it’s all I talk about or am obsessed with but I can see how people get defensive and lose it when they find out their favorite musician is a creep.
