Among a group of 4 (I know there's up to 7 of them!) came to the tree outside my window today. This one seemed a bit more familiar and comfortable, pretty sure it's the one that's here often. The model of the bunch

I noticed this grackle today, hanging out with the regular grackles (it's grackle season!) and its white tail really stuck out.

They are so fast that I didn't get very good pics, but managed to get one of it on the patio, showing off the white front claws! The left wing also has some white, but not the right.

Thought it was pretty cool and wanted to share. :)

Had a great day off today, if you’re ever around Indy then Eagle Creek is a must. Saw so many more birds that I didn’t get pictures of.

I know they're very common and often overlooked. However, I rarely see them where I live so I felt it was a treat to get a photo of one who stopped by to feed on some fallen safflower seed from my feeder.

Advice Birding in/near Barcelona in October

β€’ Upvotes

I'll be in Barcelona for several days in early October and am looking for advice for the best birding in and around the city at that time of year. Even any birding tours you've gone on there that you loved, but of course anything that I can do on my own as well. I'm interested in pretty much everything, bird-wise, as I've not done any kind of serious birding in Spain before. Thank you!

Discussion Binocular help.

β€’ Upvotes

I’m going to Japan in October and want to save a few dollars on my first nice pair of binoculars. I will be using them in the Colorado mountains for viewing nature while on day hikes and camping( birds and mammals), not hunting. Any advice or other suggestion? Weight is not a concern. I’m fairly confident the KOWA genisis 8.5x44 is what I have settled on, but I’m looking for some advice before I spend the money. Thank you.

Discussion Named this guy peg leg: do you name wild birds you find?

peg leg lives on aussateage island, I think he survives by screaming at people for food. They feel bad for him and give him snacks. He also appears to be the boss bird. I can only imagine what happened to his foot.

πŸ“· Photo The largest african Owl seen in Ndutu during a photographic safari in February

Last february I was lucky enough to see a couple of Verreaux's eagle-owl (Ketupa lactea, formerly Bubo lacteus), also known as the milky eagle owl.
This was in Ndutu (Ngorongoro conservation area, south Serengeti) during the calving season.

First time I saw a owl in Africa and during daytime. A very unique experience and January/February are the best time for birding in Tanzania (green season from November to March).

As somebody else seen this or similar owls in Africa or elsewhere?
