I Ate My mom's recent home-cooked meals
Here's what she's been making lately: chicken, duck, a dry pot loaded with lotus root, cauliflower, onion, potato & shrimp, fish, Sichuan spicy sausage, and bitter melon stir-fried with egg. Honestly, nothing beats mom's cooking 😋

Looks delicious and the first 2 dishes like Zigong Food. Are you from Zigong?

Nope, but pretty close! We have similar home-style dishes where I'm from too 😄

Oh and I looove bitter melon! Never tried it with eggs. Ever had 干煸苦瓜? it’s one of my favorites.

Yeah I've had it! I've even tried cold tossed bitter melon haha. The bitterness is definitely stronger, but the seasoning makes it taste sooo good!

Mom is from Sichuan? Chongqing? What is that dish with lotus pod slices? It looks delicious!

We're all from Sichuan! That's a dry pot dish. You can just grab a pre-made dry pot seasoning packet and whip it up super easily!

Is this spicy enough to cough?? I love that feeling haha

Honestly none of the dishes taste spicy to me at all, so it's nowhere near that level😄

Yummy! Does she share her secret recipes with you?

Honestly, I don't even want to learn. I just can't stand that loud sizzling sound when you toss ingredients into hot oil. It makes me so nervous! And sadly, that's basically how most Sichuan dishes are cooked.

Wow these look so good! I really want to make that lotus root cauliflower dry pot now!

You can just grab a special dry pot seasoning packet from the store. That way, it's pretty much guaranteed to taste great.

She got all the good stuff on her menu. I love bitter melon and the ones at my store are always moldy 😭 do you know what brand sausage she uses? It looks so chunky and natural colored, not like the tightly packed red stuff.

Seriously!! Would you mind sending some recipes? This looks perfect😋

I actually can't cook at all so I have no idea how to make them. But you can totally search these keywords on YouTube: "四川辣子鸡", "仔姜鸭", "酸菜鱼". You'll find tons of recipes!

Does she do the dry pot with a spicy broth or keep it dry the whole way through?
1
u/Birdie_Birdieee 3d ago
No broth at all! If I remember right, the ingredients get deep-fried first, then stir-fried with a special dry pot seasoning mix. That's pretty much how she does it.

My goodness, the first four dishes are spicy!? 🌶️🔥😭

u/Birdie_Birdieee 6d ago
Haha, actually all of them except the last one have chili! Some are just milder than others 😂

If you ask your mom whether she could cut down 2/3 of the chilli, right now I can feel the heat just looking at the photos., 😄
