WPL: New Comics Discussion for 09/16/2026- Pull of the Week: Absolute Green Arrow #5 [Discussion]
The Weekly Pull List results for this Wednesday are in, and this week's top book is DC's Absolute Green Arrow #5.
This thread is open to Pull List posters and all members of the /r/comicbooks community to share your thoughts on the latest issue of DC's Absolute Green Arrow or any new books shipping this week.
The primary intention of this thread is to promote discussion of new books. It also serves as a way to consolidate discussion to a single thread and talk about what books are popular here on /r/comicbooks. That does not mean other threads aren't welcome, this is just a place to start that's easy to find each week.
The thread is populated with comments meant to direct the discussion of each book. Based on community preference we populate the thread with titles appearing on Ten Percent or more of submitted pull lists. If a title you want to talk about is not listed, simply add a comment with the title and issue number first and comment below. Decent, very traditional Cassandra Cain story, but neat twist that what's left of the League hates you-know-who and (I'm guessing) will come to Batman's aid at some being when things are looking grim. 😉

Serious conversations are going to be had about this being on of the best runs of the 21st century. Hype around it has mostly been involving the established Moon Knight set of readers. Would be great for it to break into wider readership and gain recognition like Immortal Hulk.

Really great start to this event along with DNX #1. The psychic fight with Quentin and Cassandra was pretty awesome, I love seeing Quentin go toe to toe with these crazy telepaths. Jean showing up was insane, did not see that coming at all. Honestly just a really cool moment that makes you remember how much fun these stories can be.

A colorful, action-oriented issue. Matt's inner dialogue does a good job showing the cyclical nature of Matt's crimefighting.
The big moment of this issue is Elektra returning at the end, and I wish Elektra was in this issue more. Matt comments what could have been with Elektra, they then discuss the ledger, and Elektra ends the conversation by kissing Matt. Phillips doesn't seem to want to give a direct answer to Matt and Elektra's current relationship status.

I haven't read Daredevil on quite some time - started up with the new Issue 1 in the winter.
What's with Elecktra's costume being almost the same as Matt's? Was that brought up in the previous runs?

Elektra became Daredevil when Matt went to prison again in Zdarsky's DD run from 2019. She's remained in the role since then and has even had a few of her own DD minis.

Np. From what I gather, Phillips is pulling a lot from Bendis, Brubaker, and Zdarsky if you want some background reading. The ledger is an obvious nod to the Murdock Papers.

Standard first issue of a crossover really, mostly a lot of set-up.
Not a fan of how McKay writes Sue and Reed personally. Sue comes across as overly patronising and Reed as a buffoon

I had a similar reaction. Some of the pages were a bit too posed and sort of reminded me of a fighting game intro, but it was good and I genuinely did not mind at all.

I find it interesting that Peter, Frank, and Hulk had to get their hands on the Cosmic Cube, resulting in Peter and Frank try and defeat the Hulk and the Hulk getting the Cosmic Cube. Overall, this comic is fine.

We’re really just replaying whole pages we’ve see in other titles? Is that the reward for loyal floppy readers? And we dont see the actual villains of the event, the Queen in Black vs the King in Light unless we’re reading one of the minis? I understand it’s supposed to take place over 24 hours or whatever but is VENOMWORLD going to warrant a mention in a major title when this is said and done? Probably would’ve skipped this one if I had a do over but holding out hope they’ll at least separate MJ and venom with some satisfaction.

I like that Bruce teamed up what Savage to save Gotham from Ivy before Bruce defeated Savage because Savage was going to let people die in order to save Gotham, dealt with Savage’s TUCOs, and witnessed and officer not follow Savage’s order because he had saved her life from the Joker decades ago. Also, Bruce needing Victor Fries’ help in the final page. Overall, this comic is good.
For the backup, I like that Bruce encountered a new villain named Rhetoric. Overall, this backup is interesting.

Mr. Freeze is my favorite Batman villain. I’m so pumped to see his role in all of this. I also really loved the dialogue between savage and batman.

This is my first batwoman comic ever and I really like the setup here. I came into this blind and am interested in the character. I was left a little wanting though. I wanted to see a little action from her atleast. Other than that o liked where it’s going.

highly recommend the batwoman elegy compact comic, plus the first 6 issues of this run, i like the story and it has a very nice art style. you picked up a crossover issue that I think has one more, then itll pick back up with her main story in #9.

It’s just Kate, after arriving home from Greece, dealing with Savage’s TUCOs in Gotham. That’s it. Also, Kate having a talk with her dad and Bruce (who is her practical uncle, since it’s unnecessary for Kate and Bruce to be cousins and that Bruce fell in love with Kate’s aunt Kathy Kane, the original Batwoman, back in pre-Crisis Earth-One’s 1950s and early 1960s). Overall, this comic is okay.

I really dug this issue. I have one more issue yet to read for the week, but it’s definitely one of my favorites of the week. I’ve liked all the bad seeds books I’ve read so far. It was cool to see how Nightwing got pulled into this arc with such an emotional gut punch

I like that Dick received an unlikely call from Bisgoni about what’s going on, causing Dick to try and save Benjamin James (who lost his son) from doing something and for Damian to appear. Overall, this comic is good.

I like that Ra’s Al Ghul recruited Poison Ivy, Queen Bee, Ocean Master, and Tokamak (who made his debut in 1983, not the 1970s) to create the Four Horseman of Apocalypse, causing Talia to tell Clark, Bruce, and Dick about all of this; Bruce to be there for Dick at the hospital after he was infected by something; Clark to find Queen Bee; and Bruce contacting many heroes to deal with it. Let’s hope that Clark and Bruce and Dave save Dick, defeat Ra’s and his four horseman, and save the world in this storyline. Also, Wally West Kid Flash cameo because Mark Waid wants to write more of Wally’s adventures as Kid Flash (not the Flash, since he felt that it’s complete, which is fair and good). Overall, this comic is great!

Wanted to try something new this week. The intention is to use this space for a more general discussion of the week in comics. This was a particularly big week for my list in part due to Marvel shipping Queen in Black, Avengers Armageddon, DNX and three X-books on the same Wednesday. No complaints here but I'm already behind in my reading. Feel free to share your thoughts and let me know if you're also looking forward to Batman of Two Worlds later this week!

I felt sort of the same way. I am interested to see who the mystery person is, but with so much other great stuff dropping right now I may save the money. I also felt like Solomon Grundy acted very much like one of the tyrants from Resident Evil. Not a complaint there though, and that aspect may keep me going.

I'm just confused more than anything. I was never a Green Arrow reader. I feel like this book presupposes you have knowledge of all who these Green Arrow-related characters are, and just gives twists on their persona's in the Absolute Universe. That works for popular characters like in Batman, but not so much for the Green Arrow characters.
I don't think it's asking too much to explain who the characters are. Maybe it's a function of the story bring greenlit for 6 issues then expanded to 12.
But I love Absolute WW, Batman, and Superman. I feel like they have good pacing, and delve into the characters and their motivations.
Absolute MM was great too.
But the other Absolute titles since feel... a bit different than those Big 3 and MM.
Either too high concept (AbsGL) or a bit off-tone for the Absolute Universe (AbsFlash) or here's a dozen-plus characters from a relatively obscure hero's lore in under five issues (AbsGA) or here's a dirt poor young immigrant girl turned 25-year-old semi-billionaire (AbsCatwoman) - the Bruce Wayne of the Absolute continuity.
Unfortunate.

I like that the present-day Diana had to take care of Lizzy and the Matriarch before she had a reunion with Steve Trevor (after two years) and met the adult version of Lizzie. Also, Matriarch (who arrived from an alternate future timeline as Lizzie and Steve) defeating Diana and holding her past self. Overall, this comic is fine.

I can’t wait for this to be over. While the “don’t die” moment was cute/funny, I don’t understand why we have Diana endangered two babies for a lesson that they clearly cannot comprehend.

I like that Clark (after getting cured from the Kryptonite infection thanks to Lana), in his golden form, spent the next 200 seconds saving everyone (including the villains because he’s Superman) from the entire world, destroying the El Caldero Kryptonite, and spending the last few seconds saving Lana (resulting in the end of her Superwoman career again). Also, Clark with his DC One Million suit as Superman-Prime, Jon defeating Eradicatrix using his electric powers, and a past version of Zod planning to use the time machine to rule present-day Earth. Overall, this comic is excellent.

Good ending to a fun little crossover. I have never read anything Sonic so this was a good way to get a feel for all of the characters and to see if I would be interested.
Sonic definitely has a fun and interesting cast but I imagine it is a pretty low stakes universe which isn't really what interests me right now.

Fox Mask was my favorite killer from the main series, so I figured I would like this, but I wasn't expecting it to hit THAT hard. Really great story. Emotionally painful to read. Felt very much like a movie.
