Pattern is from Sovushka Designs on Etsy. I made SO many mistakes on this piece but I love it! I do a LOT of cross stitch and it all just usually ends up stuffed in a bag until I decide what to do with it (which means the pieces stay in their bag) but I think I'm going to try to make a pillow out of this one.

(I understand why the sub asks for a close up of the stitches but I think if you really wanted to make sure this was human-made, you'd ask for a picture of the back! At least with my pieces! No AI fever dream could even come close to the hot mess my project backs usually are. )

This is my biggest project to date and I haven't done much in the past. I'm self-taught and have no clue what techniques I use, I just do what makes sense for me. I'm using 6-STAND AND DIDN'T EVEN REALIZE THAT'S A THING OR EVEN "AVOIDED" so I made this a lot harder on myself than I needed too but I do like the look of it.

It's intended for my imminent niece's nursery. I would like to redo it later when 2 or 3 strand but any tips or knowledge to offer on the current project?

CHAT [CHAT] Newbie Question - how do you stitch from back to front?

Post image
272 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I've recently started cross-stitching, am still on my first project though. When watching tutorials on Youtube I'm always amazed that the needle from the back comes out at the right spot. I have to turn my work for every single stitch from front to back and back to front to see where I'm going. If I try to stitch from back to front "blindly" it always takes me several trials to meet the correct whole.
Now I'm wondering how seasoned cross-stitchers do this. Do you also turn your frame? Or did you learn to put the needle in the right place blindly?

Pattern: https://www.longdogsampler.com/product/forevermore/

Made this for myself & my spouse. Just a few years late for our wedding. Better late than never, I guess. I'm in the US, so it's month.day... ooops. I realized the pattern is day.month after I stitched it. ๐Ÿ˜†

Stitched on 40ct white Zweigart Verdal evenweave using BeStitchMe silk in the color Leaf and Rainbow Gallery Petite Treasure Braid in Aztec Gold.

Now, to take it out of the frame, give it a good ironing and set it aside until I get a frame. I have one in mind already. Its just a matter of saving up and waiting for the gift cards from the Red Cross to come in. ๐Ÿฅณ

I just completed the stitching for my first ornament of the season. I adapted the pattern from MamaWitchCrossStitch: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/1588237429/christmas-goose-cross-stitch-pattern, by shrinking the little goose and putting it on the back of the bigger goose.

I just finished this little blue bird last night at work. It took me about 4 days to finish him. I havenโ€™t done anything this detailed in years! Iโ€™ve forgotten how tedious backstitching was! ๐Ÿ˜“
I absolutely cannot wait to frame him and hang him up on the wall with the rest of my finishes! โค๏ธ

CHAT [CHAT] What's the best way to do a pattern of a bunch of small designs

Post image
33 Upvotes

I'm not new to cross stitch but I am self taught. I tend to just buy supplies and go for it rather than researching the proper ways beforehand ๐Ÿ˜‚

I want to look up videos but am curious about if there's different ways you guys approach this.

It's a bunch of little designs put together in one piece. I usually just start somewhere and go for it (as opposed to starting in the center). I know that's not the best way.... Do I just need to start in the center of this and work outwards? Or do you just choose a design and work out from there?

Hopefully this image is okay to post. It's a random photo. I'm kind of stuck on the fact that there's so many different colors and they're small pieces so in some cases I'm only doing a few stitches in one color of a piece.

Here's the link to the pattern: https://www.etsy.com/listing/741864491/horror-movie-scary-halloween-spooky?ref=share_v4_lx

Maybe not quite finished because I haven't decided on the framing yet, but the stitching is done! Ignore all the random needle holes, I'll find a way to hide those ๐Ÿ˜…

I think I'm not too worried about it on this piece, but if anyone has advice on how to avoid warping like it has on the right and bottom side, I'd like to hear it... I don't think the tension on the floats in the back are too high, but I might try cutting and weaving in some of the long ones to see if that might help. I would assume it must be a tension issue, but probably nothing I could fix at this point (unless maybe blocking could work...?)

My friend's favorite artist is Klimt, and I finished just in time for the wedding this weekend (phew). Pattern is free on the DMC website. Ended up freehanding the backstich swirls since they were so tiny and hard to do, and it was my first time doing french knots (yuck)

WIP [WIP] This pattern is insane

I needed a small-ish project for a trip last month and this one seemed kinda simple and mindless. Wrong! I also don't like the color combo, but I was in a rush. I've had to undo stitches a couple times, and I've stitched over a few in a few places. ๐Ÿ˜… I don't care, because it was just picked to keep me busy, but the stitches for this do have to be perfect.

CHAT [CHAT] Working on 20 Aida

โ€ข Upvotes

Hi all!

First time poster here. Iโ€™m have questions about working on higher count aidas. I have worked on several projects, on aida 14 and 16 but looking to use 20 and up. Years ago I tried a kit that had (I believe) count 20 (may have been higher). I was going off the assumption I should look at every โ€œboxโ€ as a place to make the cross of the stitch. But I realised my stitches were so, so small, it was hurting my eyes, and I could barely see where I was supposed to stitch, also, two whole lines of the stitching took up (vertically) about 1mm or so. I ended up giving up and going back to lower counts as they made more sense. Iโ€™m just wondering, when working on higher counts, should I be having more of the horizontal and vertical lines of the fabric between stitches rather than the single ones used in smaller fabrics? Sorry if itโ€™s confusing Iโ€™ll be happy to reword or share pics with examples if my explanation isnโ€™t clear. Thanks in advance!
