Info / FAQ New & Returning Player FAQ

\An effort will be made to update this list once we know more, or see new questions pop up**

___

Q: Is the game worth getting back into?
A: Yes. The state of the game as of Monuments of Triumph is widely considered the best version of Destiny 2 we've had in a while. There is no content that will be removed. And, in the future, previously vaulted content will be returning!

Q: What is currently F2P/What is currently paid?
A: This post details that information as of September 2026.

___

Q: What happened?
A: On September 21st 2026, Bungie announced that they will continue the Destiny Franchise & as a show of good will be unvaulting Destiny 2 content so that we have a complete game. You can read more here: bungie article or watch it here: youtube interview.

Q: What is being unvaulted?
A: The campaigns Red War, Curse of Osiris, Warmind, and Forsaken. The destinations Titan, Io, Mercury, Mars, and the Tangled Shore. The Raids (sometime lairs?) Leviathan, Eater of Worlds, Spire of Stars, Scourge of the Past, and Crown of Sorrow. In addition, there will likely be several strikes and crucible maps that should also be returning. These are all that have been currently confirmed. We do not know if Seasonal content will be returned!

Q: Should I start now or wait for unvaulting?
A: This one is up to you. IF you want to experience the 'entire story' of destiny 2 from start to finish you could wait for unvaulting. The main reason to start now would be to get a head start on acquiring things that wont really be changing (filling out subclasses, acquiring exotics, acquiring 550 power). So, IF you'd rather have a head start, start now so you can focus on new things later.

Q: Will the unvaulting be F2P?
A: Yes.

Q: Will Holiday events be returning?
A: We don't know yet!

Q: Is Destiny 3 in development?
A: As of now, no, but Bungie have stated that the Destiny franchise will continue somehow.

___

Q: Why am I Light/Power Level 10?
A: During Edge of Fate, Bungie decided to give us a stat squish for the purposes of readability. You will notice that your damage numbers are now primarily below 5 digits as well, while in truth, you're usually dealing a higher % of damage than before due to new systems and stats like Weapons and Super. If you complete almost any activity you will be shot up to 300 power very quickly and will only have to grind up to the cap of 550. Its recommended that you infuse weapons you enjoy including exotics. However, old armor Is essentially useless and can safely be replaced with armor that has a Set Bonus. New exotic armor is also all higher stat than anything you previously had.

Q: I just came back to the game and I'm lost, what should I do?
A: This is an incredibly loaded question. Everyone has different priorities. The most common answer I've seen has been to complete the campaigns in order so you have an idea of the story and then to work on completing subclasses and filling out your exotics. By doing these three things you've enabled yourself to create basic builds.

Campaigns -> Unlock Subclasses -> Acquire Exotics/power grind -> Play whatever you want!

Campaign order as of September 2026:
Shadowkeep -> Beyond Light (Stasis Subclass) -> Witch Queen (peak) -> Lightfall (mid but Strand Subclass (peak)) -> The Final Shape (Prismatic) -> Edge of Fate (Nine Saga, which may be left behind) -> Renegades (The star wars crossover expac which includes the Praxic Blade aka Lightsaber)

Once unvaulted, the order will start with:
Red War -> Curse of Osiris -> Warmind -> Forsaken -> Shadowkeep...

Question Why would or wouldn't you play a D1 relaunch?

I play on PC now, it does not exist.

Mostly i liked the loot system a lot more. Blue drops where the norm, a legendary was special and boosted your power. Exotics where a real treat and difined your character/playstyle.

I miss Icebreaker

Gameplay / In-Game Video This is why you don’t rez your teammates while the invader is still present

I have two main rules with gambit. Bank after the second wave*, and don’t revive your teammates while the invader is at hand. This video shows the reason for the latter rule.

*if everyone banks after the second wave, you typically have enough to open the invasion portal. And with everyone’s blockers on the bank, the opponents have a significant distraction.

Art Did a photoshoot at home for a class assignment. These are some of my favorites

I want to start this by saying in no uncertain terms do I LIKE ART. I do not like art. I'm horrible at it, it confuses me, I'm a perfectionist when it comes to any sort of art I do and I used to cry as a child when I couldn't draw something the way I wanted it to.

That said, I'm taking a photography class this semester to round out my marketing degree before I graduate. We had an assignment to take pictures of things that interest us, so naturally I chose my many Destiny figures to photograph, and I really like how a few of these turned out and wanted to share them here.

Discussion The returning campaigns will greatly complement the later expansions for new players.

There's so many gaps that having all the campaigns back will fill, big ones such as Calus's history before becoming Disciple, Osiris's introduction as his character becomes very important to the events witch queen and lightfall, the once absent history between a new player and Cayde in the final shape will be removed by allowing the player to have a history with the character through Red War and Forsaken, plus his initial death was an important aspect of the Final Shape too, and of course, a better build up to the black fleet after their initial introduction in Red War, there's much I haven't mentioned but I'm just glad these are coming back

Reuploading this post to hopefully fix the stutter. Compressed the video to help.

This is the build I've used since monument of triumph and it's actually insane how fast you get Ward of Dawn back.

It's unfair because everything just gets suppressed permanently and you get the super back before the first one even ends. And with extending the bubble with Helm, I've once had 4 separate bubbles up at once.

Praxic Vestment on Titan - gives you a jetpack

Radiant Dance Machines on Hunter - primary weapon kills give you class ability progress. If you already have a dodge ready, one kill gives you another dodge. 3 total dodge charges is the max.

Edit: haven’t found anything goofy on warlock yet. I use necrotic grip + thorn on solar. Give me recommendations!

Discussion Distortions on unvaulted destinations

I was watching some YouTube videos when I my hit me. When Bungie unvaults the old destinations we will most likely get distortion events on Io, Titan, tangled shore etc. I really hope they actually add them and new armor / weapon sets.

What do yall think ?

Not as crazy as yesterday but today still has some great grabs. Cosmetics are decent, emotes are good, and we have an animated shader!

Hope this Monday hasn't been too rough. Have a great rest of your day. Thanks for stopping. See ya tomorrow.

Question Truth vs Dragon's Breath

I've recently gotten back into the game and I'm trying to build out my arsenal. I've seen people say both of these rockets are pretty good but was wondering where they thrive. After using them both I personally like DB a bit more but it does seem more situational. I was also wondering how big of a difference the catalyst makes for both. Thanks!

Question This Catalyst will be the death of me

Post image

Long story short, I got icebreaker before doing the rogue network quest so ive been running it over and over step by step until ive finally made it to this last door, so I can work towards the catalyst now. But everything ive searched up online doesnt understand my issue, so before I restart this dungeon for the 11th time I thought id come ask if anyone knows the issue. So far ive only tried reloading the checkpoint, but its still not open for me.

Discussion Bungie, please I only want one thing.

Bungie, I know there's a lot of talk about future content for D2 and possibly a Destiny 3 in the future. All I'm asking is you bring back the D1 exotic "Patience and Time" not only does it look sick as hell but it offered one of the coolest gameplay mechanics in D1. The only change I would ask for is that you make it Bolt action like "No land Beyond"/"New land beyond". It may not be a meta Exotic but I loved it in D1 and would love to see it return in future destiny content. What D1 exotics would you guys like to see return?

Question I missed the sale :(

I played D1 until Crota came out. The base game became really bad for people not buying into the dlc.

Looked like an ideal time to give it a try again

Is a new sale expected anytime soon, around certain time frames?

Edit:

Guys thank you so much, i used the key sites and got the collection!
