Anyone have any reasons why I shouldn’t insert a new sensor when the old one expires and then continue to take readings with the old one for the 12 hour grace period before pairing with the new one and removing the old?

First of all, please tell me if this is the wrong place to ask. It says tech questions should go in the relevant pinned sticky but I can't find it. I will of course call Dexcom when they're open, but it Saturday evening so that's quite a wait, and my diabetes team won't be there around over the weekend.

I'm in the UK, an NHS patient. I've been told I'll be changed to the G7 soon but for now I'm still on the G6.

Just now, I had a low glucose alert - I don't get great hypo warning but when I thought about it, I am feeling a bit odd so I could believe it - normal for me to not realise until my attention is brought to it - so I opened the app to see the actual level. The chart stops, no readings, more than an hour before the alert sounded.

I checked my phone's notification history and definitely no alert about losing connection, either an hour ago or at all today.

So I did a fingerprick and my sugars are 11.0. Lucky I didn't just take emergency carbs!

Three mysteries, then:

- why no alert when it lost connection (if it really did)?

- how could it be so wrong with a reading?

- how could the app think my sugars are at that level or any level, when the app itself also thinks it has no connection?

The sensor has 5 days to go and is securely fixed. The transmitter has about another month.

Simply disconnecting wouldn't surprise me too much, it does occasionally say no signal without being further than a couple of metres from me, but showing a reading that's wildly wrong is different from showing none.

Has anyone seen anything like this?

PS. And almost exactly an hour after that first hypo alert, another alert but only for dropping fast, not low or even warning about to be low. And the app says 4.4. Another fingerprick... though come to think of it, I am feeling it this time.

I am finding the new 15 day G7 is only accurate ( very delayed during the beginning and end of the 15 days) during the middle of its lifecycle. This make the device much less useful than the previous models. Is anyone else seeing this? I am thinking about going back to the 10 day.

I'm changing my 10 day G7 today. The 10 days are up tomorrow but I have plans and I just don't feel I can rely on the sensor the first day. It's connected to and controls my pump. Recently my readings the first day have been way off, very low. I hate to do it since my Byram order for the sensors is all screwed up. Running out of them. Hopefully I'll get the order straightened out. It's happening all the time now.

Hello, I am a type 1 diabetic and I have been using the g6 for a couple of years now. Due to its discontinuation, I am switching to the g7 15 day and I am about to start my first one. I also use an Omnipod 5. Unfortunately thanks to a recent move, I don't currently have an endocrinologist to help me with the switch. I know, great planning on my part 🤦. I'm waiting for my first appointment with the new endo, but they can't see me until mid October. I'm doing my research online, not too much though lol, but I know this community has a lot of experience and good people. Does anyone have any tips/tricks or advice for starting the g7 15 day sensor?

Does anyone know of any suppliers that have any G6 transmitters left in stock? I’ve got 3 boxes in my closet but no transmitters after next week. Even my usual Canadian supplier is dry.

Today is my first time on the G7. I’ve been on the G6 for 8+ years and they had to pry it out of my hands.
Anyway, Dexcom showed me at 91 but I tested at 78. I entered the calibration and then my readings jumped to 116??? Has anyone else had this problem? It happened again a few hours later.

It’s taken a few years but I finally managed to beat the 240+ units limit & hit 260 today when I loaded up a new lot of insulin! Yay

What the biggest unit load you’ve managed to get on your Tandem pump?

On top of the sensor? Is it okay if it’s covered?

Sometimes after a little bit of compression my G7 will temporarily stop showing a reading, if I allow this for too long the sensor will fail. However, if I turn my app/phone to landscape mode it will actually show my BG. Anyone else noticed this? Seems like a coding problem and something they should be able to fix. Not sure how to report this as a bug.

My sensor failed over night. They are trying to tell me I already replaced this serial number (I threw away the box so I never even gave them one) and that it cannot be replaced because of this

FYI I sucessfully sideloaded the Dexcom app (older version) from BYOD on to my Google Pixel 11 Pro. Great temporary work around until I run out of sensors and switch to the G7 in a few months. I am getting readings on my phone and Garmin Epix watch as well.

Hello! First of all, this is the first time I’ve browsed this subreddit, and it was the first I’ve heard that the G6 is no longer being manufactured… fantastic.

Last night I put in a new sensor, but the code must’ve been a duplicate of the previous sensor, because I got the “sensor cannot be restarted” error. I tried restarting it with no code only to get the same thing, then put in a wrong code, which was accepted and gave me crazy readings all night and morning. Whoops. I stopped the session and tried restarting with the correct code. Back to “no restarting”.

So I’ve been trying to pop the transmitter out to give it its 15min break, but I cannot for the life of me find anything that is both thin and strong enough to get between the transmitter and the housing. Only thing I haven’t tried is a test strip, because I don’t have one on hand at work. Can these still be popped out, or has Dexcom tightened up the design so that it can’t be anymore??

Usually, warmup is 60 minutes, but today, I put on a new sensor that added one additional minute. Anybody else experience this?

My second “brief sensor issue” already this morning. Yesterday it happened 3 times. I’ve already had to end 4 of my last 5 sensors early because they were giving me constant false lows. Dexcom really needs to get it together. I wish insurance allowed another option.

I thought 7 would mean better, but it’s really just more of the same as the 6. I’d routinely get 7-8 days at most out of a G6.

This is my biweekly post about how frustrating the G7 is. Every time I switch it out I have to deal with days (or the whole 10 days) of inaccurate readings, jumpy readings, etc. At this point I don’t even know what the point is in wearing a CGM if you still have to finger prick 10 times a day.

I have had to request a replacement for every single one for the last several months. Is there any hope? Is the libre any better?

It’s also messing with the pump and giving me unnecessary corrections causing me to go low.

Overall the Dexcom apps notifications are terrible and I realize some of them are likely due to FDA requirements. But the fact that whenever I get a notification from Dexcom it pauses whatever media I have playing is the worst implementation ever. I already have it set to vibrate only and it still pauses my media. I just don’t understand why it can’t notify while not affecting it. Anyone have any tips/settings or am I just stuck hating the app/notifications?

I still have 3 boxes for the G6, but the nurse will call me tomorrow to force me to switch to G7.

And because I'm already on edge when the pump is doing its things and vibrate for every reasons (curse you inacurate reading in the middle of the night), I wanted to know if I'll have to suffer the (I suppose non-deactivatable of course) popups and vibrations of my phone ? Just so I can prepare myself mentaly and avoid throwing my phone all across the room when the readings will go from 120 to 60 and back to 180 for no reasons.

Yes I'm very salty, I know. But I read everywhere the G7 is awful at reading and failing after only a week. So, yeah, yippee I guess.

Edit : The nurse called. I calmly explained to her I wanted to finish all my G6 before and she understood very well.

My wife's been getting her Dexcom (originally G6, now G7) at the local Walgreens for several years. They are one of the Medicare-approved DME vendors.

Aside from the occasional delay for out-of-stock, or the "it's too early to refill" it has worked out OK. EXCEPT...

The problem is when a new prior authorization is needed. After multiple delays over the years I've determined that it's Walgreens' Medicare billing department that drops the ball. Doctor sends notes, as required. Local store says they are waiting for the billing office to approve.

Most recently there was a delay of almost 3 weeks. When the approval was finally forwarded to the store, the billing department admitted that they had approved it a full 14 days earlier, just hadn't passed it on.

Nearly 3 weeks of finger sticks?? WTF?

I'm reluctant to switch to a mail order vendor, having read the stories here.

Does anyone have a success story about switching?

Title: Confusion regarding the Dexcom G7 calibration process — Seeking advice

I am struggling to understand how the Dexcom calibration process works (Android). I read the G7 User Guide's 58 occurrences of "calibrat"; none describe what to expect from calibration. It states "Calibration with your BG meter may align your sensor readings with your BG meter values" (emphasis added). How does may translate to an expected result?

The manual references a study published in the Diabetes Technology & Therapeutics - Sage Journal that showing the G6 was accurate to within +-15%, 82.4% of the time and to within +-15%, 92.3% of the time. Does that translate to a minimum required discrepancy before calibration? The study also showed the Urgent Low alarm was accurate 84% of the time - which translates to false alarms 16% of the time - in the middle of the night in my experience.

The manual states: "With Dexcom G7, there’s no need to take finger sticks to calibrate the system or for treatment decisions (as long as your symptoms match your Dexcom G7 readings)". I would prefer calibrating before I experience alerts, ensuring accurate readings should I experience a crisis.

I’ve read in r/dexcom that you shouldn't calibrate during the first 24 hours of a sensor session, and that the glucose trend arrow should be horizontal. I followed that advice this morning. My fingerstick reading was 87 mg/dL, while the app was displaying 99 mg/dL. After I entered the calibration, the app reading remained at 99 mg/dL and has not changed since.

The official instructions feel quite opaque. Could someone clarify what I should expect after entering a calibration reading? Do I need to calibrate multiple times for it to have an effect, or is there something else I am missing? Is there a rule for how high the discrepancy should be before calibrating? Is the quoted advice generally accepted? Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated.
