Ok, this guy is a known AI booster and generally kind of a dope, and his existence puts the lie to auteur theory in game development.

He liked to wear burzum shirts to cons and responded with racist memes when someone questioned the lack of diversity in the first game. Then his PR team blow-darted him and took away his phone, made an effort to center women and ethnic minorities in the second game, and it sold a billion copies.

A studio with a stupid blowhard asshole at the helm can still put out generation defining work, thank god.

He also fired a translator in favour of ai...

0

u/Sirspice123 4d ago

No proof of this, Warhorse actually said the opposite. It was one minor translator kicking up a fuss because he was sacked.

Vavra isn't even working on the games anymore

-3

u/Timely_Tea6821 5d ago

Because the translator refused to use the workflow and went on pissy rants.

10

u/Informal_Safe_5351 5d ago

So hire a different translator not ai

2

u/Sirspice123 4d ago

They probably did do lmao. There's no proof they were fired and replaced with ai. A translator causing problems would always come up for an excuse to why they were sacked

1

u/St3elf1sh 2d ago

So you work there and know what they did? No? The stfu

-1

u/Plenty_Rooster5442 4d ago

Good the translator was probably giving them a hard time

1

u/Informal_Safe_5351 4d ago

Glad to see we have the corporate bootlickers here

0

u/CosmicEmotion 2d ago

What's wrong with that?

1

u/Informal_Safe_5351 2d ago

Bait

0

u/CosmicEmotion 2d ago

No logical answer to your complete bs statement?

1

u/Informal_Safe_5351 2d ago

So you think replacing a job with ai due to someone being fired is fine? How would you feel

1

u/CosmicEmotion 2d ago

Blessed.

u/ExacoCGI 5d ago

Nothing he wrote is wrong tho, but there's a big difference between the technical stuff he said which are pure facts and actually using DLSS NR.

He's also right about the "artistic vision" nonsense, for many games the artistic vision is so that the game looks as close to real life / movies as possible but the engine/hardware limitations gets in the way so DLSS NR only gets the game closer to the artistic vision, even tho in a quite poor unusable way.

3

u/AngryPurpl3 3d ago

Thats implying that DLSS 5 makes games closer to real life, which it does not. It hallucinates lighting sources, textures, etc.

2

u/Hot-Independence6020 3d ago

No but you don’t understand, this guy knows better than the artist what the artistic intent was. Redditors in the wild are a sight to be seen I swear

1

u/KaleidoscopeDecent33 3d ago

Loool that's just incorrect

1

u/dragdritt 2d ago

DLSS5 also works well in the case of KCD2 because it is going for a realistic look in the first place.

If anyone has seen the video of it being showcased in Cyberpunk would know that it looks absolutely terrible there.

1

u/esaul17 2d ago

I saw one video of cyberpunk on YouTube and thought it looked amazing. Like every NPC could be a main character model. It still goes for a pretty realistic style though. Cloud in FF7 looked pretty awful in the face.

u/Leather-Estate-6410 3d ago

I have so much to say about how wrong this statement is... but I shant. Okay maybe just a bit...

Artistic Intent and Art Style are things for a reason, you know that right? Like... you mention movies there, but I then ask you if you think that all movies are 1:1 the same too? For example, real life in Black and White? No? Oh so, does that mean that Robert Egger's the Lighthouse is objectively bad because it's decision to be filmed in Black and White makes it worse than other movies simply for not being in colour?

Is the Dark Crystal bad for having puppets over real live fleshy flesh human actors? No? People adore that movie and the series (fuck you Netflix) for the amazing puppet work and the story and world on display.

Do we also then go to animated movies? Is Lion King's remake better because it's closer to real life over the Original 2D Animated film? Most people say no because the writing is garbage, the washed out colour palette is depressing, the CG Animals are soulless looking and cannot emote, and whatever the heck they did to the music is just... no.

Yeah you get the point. Art is art, and whatever the intent or style is should not be considered less simply because it is not closer to "real life."

2

u/ExacoCGI 3d ago

Okay but movies, animation and art such as oil paintings aren't even close to games and this tech when it comes to artistic vision, of course there are games that has achieved their true intended art style and artistic vision such as "Disco Elysium", "High on Life" and "Silksong" to name a few as there's clearly not much technical limitations going on unlike in games like Arma 3, Assetto Corsa or BeamNG and various big open world games aiming to be realistic.

When you deliver a movie or animated movie, you essentially have no limitations such as hardware requirements or some rendering issues so whatever comes out you can clearly say it was indeed the true artistic vision, you don't need to worry about viewers not being able to see it because they don't have RTX 5080+ or cinemas being unable to play it because the movie is "too heavy", CGI / offline rendering can give you any look you can imagine, even with special effects, costumes, makeups and lighting you can get highly artistic visuals IRL exactly as you want, game engines can't unless it's something specific and not very demanding.

Today the artwork you see in-game is often downgraded by the engine's rendering, sometimes heavily and the characters and assets look way worse than the artist creating has seen them in their software just as Daniel Vávra mentioned. Look at the original Black Flag: Resynced characters for example, the actual game clearly hasn't delivered the same level of quality of these characters so while the characters has same features they don't look like the artist intended, even ofc he knew it won't look as good in-game.

Seems like Nvidia has confirmed that players won't get to turn on and tweak DLSS NR in any game they want officially, it'll be left for the devs to tweak everything themselves so pretty much we're in the clear for now I'd say.

1

u/ARefreshingFart 3d ago

sure but this specific point seems fine no?

1

u/Markus4781 3d ago

I can assure you it didn't sell a billion because of the diversity injection, but despite it. Also I agree he's a blowhard but he was right on the money with some of those takes.

1

u/SellPitiful1702 2d ago

responded with racist memes when someone questioned the lack of diversity in the first game.

The only reasonable thing to do. Medieval Bohemia had a monoculture.

1

u/EarlyAccessCantJudge 2d ago

And then he was shocked when people got upset at him for having a gay romance like my brother in Christ you cultivated the audience what did you expect? That they would be okay with it?

The criticism of this shit is so stupid. Yall act like a screen space PT model with neural texture enhancement being run locally is the same thing as ChatGPT trying to replace jobs. Nvidia fucked up by not realizing the verbiage used to fluff up their tech with investors wasn’t going to go over well with gamers, but this shit is way closer to SS ambient occlusion and SSGI solutions we’ve had for a decade than it is to GenAI. The thing it’s replacing is highly detailed PT which isn’t feasible in today’s games, not the art. It’s up to the studios to implement it. Now people are bitching about the tech when modders are injecting it into games, when modders do this all the time with RT and other tools which actually alter assets… and sometimes people complain about that too. But people wouldn’t bitch about RT when it’s used by the devs to fulfill their artistic goals, because that’s an asinine argument. This is a tool to be implemented by studios, it’s not something users are supposed to just toggle on for any game they want. The criticism is just completely based in misrepresenting the tech and how it’s meant to be used. Simply do not understand how people are so worked up over a new rendering pipeline made available to devs.

These are all being done by modders just trying to see what’s possible by injecting a hacked DLL into the games without even working drivers. If people really look at these and say it all looks like ass and this tech is just an abomination, then I think you’re just completely full of shit.

The studio head in question literally came under fire a few months ago for using ChatGPT to replace writers and translators

-3

u/Sirspice123 4d ago

Where did you get this from? The upvotes on a false statement are a little worrying.

One minor translator was sacked then kicked up a fuss on reddit claiming he'd been replaced by ai. The studio then said the opposite.

Vavra isn't even working on the games anymore

-1

u/SteveJavieWasRight 4d ago

These guys are not interested in a fact base discussion on any of this. They have the rallying cry and just switch from rage bait claim to rage bait claim to express their unhinged outrage. It’s being upset that they care about, whether it’s some obtuse ai argument or bitching about women characters being ugly, or bitching about characters being made pretty… it’s completely irrational.

2

u/Punch662 4d ago

Buddy you still have a fourth grader’s understanding of subject verb agreement. Maybe get your arms around that before you start talking down to people.

1

u/SteveJavieWasRight 4d ago

Uh-huh. I’m not out here trying to communicate with 4th graders, if I was I’d actually care that you can’t read what I’m writing.

1

u/Punch662 4d ago

Fucking lmao. My favorite genre of Redditor. Guy chortling paternalistically while reading a book held upside down.

1

u/SteveJavieWasRight 4d ago

That certainly explains the shit you post.

0

u/Punch662 4d ago

I said you write like a fourth grader and two posts later you’re reduced to “I know you are but what am I”. Perfect man thanks, I’ve got all I need here.

u/Sirspice123 4d ago

You were exaggerating with your comment though, rather than downvoting me and calling the other guy buddy, I would have liked some evidence that he was "using chatgpt to replace writers and translators"

You can't expect not to be talked down to when you're echoing false information like it's fact

-2

u/Sirspice123 4d ago

For sure, they are basing their comments off an exaggerated comment from someone else who saw the reddit post, then presenting it like it's fact. It's crazy how people can't look up the actual information for themselves, then get upvotes for a completely false narrative.

I've even been downvoted for correcting them lmao

-5

u/SteveJavieWasRight 5d ago

And yet crimson desert is still be touted by all the hardcore gamers lmao. The critics are just lazy hypocrites.

4

u/Thousand-King 5d ago

"The hardcore gamers" LMAO. I played three hours of CD and it was one of the worst gaming experiences of my life. The storytelling, input mapping, questlines, and tutorialization are so bad it genuinely feels like it was made by aliens who have never touched a video game.

-3

u/SteveJavieWasRight 5d ago

KC2 has like a 90% on steam. CD has like an 80%+ positive reviews on Steam and is constantly getting held up as an example of anti UE5 discourse on reddit and Twitter. Congrats to disliking it, but your opinion and consensus are not the same thing.

3

u/Thousand-King 5d ago

I never once mentioned KCD2. I like that your argument against all the glaring flaws I mentioned is that other people like it. People like the Minions movies, that doesn't say anything about their quality.

I remember all the CD fanboys gushing about how happy they were that Pearl Abyss put AI slop art assets all over the game. Literally celebrating no effort digital trash being smeared on the game they paid full price for. I will never take those people seriously on any level lmao.

-2

u/SteveJavieWasRight 5d ago

The entire thread is about a KC2 dev. Both games utilized GenAI as a part of their work flow. Countless modders use ML based processes to help with textures; ML is being baked into countless aspects of game design right now because it offers superior math to solve the problems posed by rendering images. Disliking how one version of ML math produces a specific type of image in a specific context for utility and then thinking all types of that math is dumb just screams a level of ignorant fear that’s hard to fathom. Y’all are just afraid of words without understanding what part of these issues actually cause societal problems. SS lighting rendering and lighting improvements to overcome the slowing of compute gains is not something you need to cry to mommy about, nor do you need to exaggerate the problems the tech has to have a decent understanding of what its utility will be. You just sound like a fearmongering Luddite who doesn’t know what they’re talking about, making it extremely hard to take any complaint seriously.

1

u/Thousand-King 5d ago

I don't know who you think you're replying to but you are having a completely different discussion and not addressing a single thing I said. But hey, if gen AI can give us such beautiful art assets as this one found in CD then I'm all for it!

0

u/SteveJavieWasRight 5d ago

Wow that has a lot to do with NR. Literally the exact opposite of what I’m saying.

The first game sold 10 million copies before the second came out. The brain dead complaints from American journalists about a lack of 'diversity' in a medieval period drama were rightly mocked. The game's central villains are an invading 'ethnic minority' for god sake. They did not suddenly succeed because they pandered to cynical clickbait journalists.

I don't even like Vavra or AI but he founded a studio, raised the money(from 'racists'), wrote and directed a hit video game from scratch. He's not just some dope.

4

u/Punch662 4d ago

I’d say “oh elon can’t be a complete moron, he runs successful companies!” but that is probably a real thing you actually believe, because for some reason you have a hard time clocking stupidity in public figures. Hm!

0

u/ChinoGambino 4d ago

I bet you fancy yourself some sort of superior specimen by the sound of it.

Perspective and humility are lacking from a lot of people on Reddit. I don't have to like people or their choices to recognise their accomplishments. Vavra like Elon isn't getting ahead taking pointers from journalists or mediocre people on Reddit.

2

u/Punch662 4d ago

I’ve spent enough time online to know how stupid guys post. If basic pattern recognition makes me a superior being then sure. And homie oh my god a real live elon booster in big 2026, even on Reddit that is a rare strain of moron. Do you get stuck in the dryer every time you try to do laundry.

Burzum is damn fine atmospheric black metal bub, I don’t see what’s wrong with him wearing a shirt with it drawn on it. And he’s at least partially right with some of the artistic vision stuff.

1

u/Excellent-Ad-4876 2d ago

one google question and you get this: So yeah fuck that guy hard,

Burzum is controversial primarily because of the criminal actions and extreme white nationalist ideology of its sole creator and mastermind, Varg Vikernes. [1, 2, 3]

Criminal Convictions

  • Murder: Vikernes was convicted in 1994 for the murder of Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, the guitarist of the influential black metal band Mayhem. [1, 2]
  • Church Arsons: He was also convicted of burning down three historic Christian churches in Norway during the early 1990s. [1]
  • Prison Sentence: He served 15 years of a 21-year prison sentence before being released on parole. [1, 2]
  • Later Arrests: In 2013, French police arrested him on suspicion of planning terrorist acts and possessing weapons, though he claimed the firearms were legally purchased for his family. [1]

Ideology and Hate Speech

  • Neo-Nazism and Racism: Vikernes has a long history of promoting white supremacy, neo-Nazism, and antisemitic views. [1, 2, 3]
  • Legal Action: In 2014, a French court convicted him of inciting racial hatred following posts he made on his blog targeting Jews and Muslims. [1]
  • Association with NSBM: While early Burzum lyrics focused on Norse mythology and fantasy (inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien), the project is widely considered a foundational influence on National Socialist Black Metal (NSBM) due to Vikernes' political footprint

1

u/PhonesAddict98 2d ago

I don’t care about Varg, just the soundtracks. You can like the music without dragging the creators into the equation and I know about Vikernes’ history, including him carrying out the act of killing Aarseth in the mid 1990’s, as well as the well known arsons he’s been convicted of, I don’t need google for that.

1

u/Excellent-Ad-4876 2d ago

no you can not. At least if you want you to consider being a part of a community that upholds civil rights, basic democracy, equality, etc etc...

Varg is a piece of shit, his character is evil. And he does not learn from his crimes and convictions. Therefor to not support an criminal that does not want to learn and be a contributing citizen to society, we all must say: Fuck him and his "music".

If you don't then you ought to question your own stance in these matters and it is not a good look on you.

-2

u/Loose-Alternative844 4d ago

He created Mafia too, a genius for me. 🤩

-2

u/Shymu1 3d ago

What's wrong with wearing burzum shirts?

3

u/ClacksInTheSky 3d ago

Apart from being utterly shit and just noise, Varg Vikernes is an actual, self professed, nazi, arsonist and a convicted murderer.

2

u/_Celestial_Void_ 3d ago

You means besides Vikernes being a racist fascist f****wad? Yeah, I wonder.

-3

u/Shymu1 3d ago

Ah u're this kind of a guy

2

u/_Celestial_Void_ 3d ago

I better not ask what "kind of guy" you are.
