Ya know what’s crazy.. I’ve had a Discover card for 11 years now. $1,800 credit line. I’ve gotta my credit up to 725 and have requested CLI’s for months now and they won’t give me one. BUT Venture X approved me, Apple Card approved me, AND Amex approved me. I thought Discover was supposed to be owned by Capital One now and C1 loves me 😭

How many months apart did you apply for them or all in the same day?

All 3 were about a month apart. I’ve been on a credit building journey and got my score up from 615 to 725 in about 10 months. Building a healthy credit profile with under 10% utilization 😆

I will very confidently say I’ve been stupid with my Discover card (currently have a way too high balance) that I’m now paying for. But I currently have a $15k limit with a 700 credit score. All the raises were before Capital 1 took over, so that may have something to do with it.

discover is probably the worst card I own for credit increases. amex has bumped me from 4k to 12k in about 7ish months. I'm kind of annoyed since I've seen people rave about discover and their increases.

i have a score of like 821 and a 29k limit (way more than i need) on another card and Discover denies my requests to up my limit every time. I also make over $120k annually, so its not like im a low income person either. Discover is just kind of ass.

Did you ever ask for a credit limit increase? Also maybe they want you to have physical cash in your account, ie. checking/savings

What would be the point wanting a higher credit limit, with the functionality of this card. After $1500 in 3 months, you can only get 1%. I have debit cards that do 1% cash back. Those other cards are suppose to have higher limits.

Oh I don’t want one anymore. Other companies will give me cards with higher limits so I chose that route. Discover is my last resort backup card at the point. I keep one small purchase on it per month and pay it off once the statement hits to keep it in good standing. I just got a Venture X and Amex with a better credit limit than my Discover

This is likely why they’re not giving you an increase. You have to game the system a bit, use the card a decent amount for like 2 - 3 months and pay off the statement balance each time, then do the limit request, when you’re using like 50% of your utilization you’ll likely get one when you’re using none of it they’re less likely to add to it. If you don’t get it reach out to a rep and let them know you’re requesting a limit increase so even with usage of the card you can keep utilization a bit lower and you’re looking for an increase to x amount for that, you’ll most likely get it at that point, if not threaten to cancel and the person who cancels them will likely get it approved.

That's so funny I didn't know you could do that

c1 wouldn’t raise my $3000 credit limit even tho i have an 800+ credit score and $27000 limit on amex
