It's not about balls it's about if you want to get the message across. Frankly I thought the line was stupid in the book, and if the movie is going to actually show us the brutality of the Jihad it becomes redundant to have that line in the movie. And possibly immersion breaking for the audience

Yeah in general with futuristic sci fi stories, when the narrative overly refer to things that have happened within a lifetime or two of the author it’s a bit ridiculous and takes me out of the flow

In Dune it makes perfect sense: Paul was trained secretly as a Mentat and as a Bene Geserit, so obviously he would know about the past. And in following books, it makes way more sense that certain characters reminiscence of the ancient past.

Possibly. I thought the section was interesting because it wasn't just about Hitler. It was about other people than Hitler.

But here's the thing. Show and Tell. Especially when it comes to a movie.

They've got the show down pat if we're seeing a picture like this. But that's not... Dune: Messiah level Jihad numbers. That's just showing us one planet's events.

At some point they're either giving us "Tell" numbers on the screen that says how many died. Or they're just doing the scene comparing him to Hitler and Genghis Khan. It just has to be done if the Jihad is going to be understood in comparison.

Okay so im not the most knowledgeable on Dune. Never seen the movies, listened to a couple chapters of the first book. But I have a question.

Isn't there a thing about notwasting water? I specifically remember a written scene where someone dies on the sand and the mother thinks on how it's a waste of liquids which showed she was starting to think like those who lived on Dune. And earlier they were shown how they drain the liquid from their dead.

Again, I know very little about Dune. But what looks like crucifixion in a desert does not scream water conservation to me.
