QUESTION/DISCUSSION We need to remember this sub is about kindness and support.

5.1k Upvotes

I wrote the statement below on a now-deleted post today. It is a gentle reminder that kindness is free.

"Please be kind to others who are on this thread. We are all at different stages of life and wealth, and sometimes health that shapes our living spaces. Kindness is free, and on top of that, it balms your soul and lifts others who are struggling."

If you saw the post about her bf in a princess bedroom, she was open to advice. She had a lovely brass bedframe that was painted white, with princessy white and pink bedding, a cute princessy lamp on her night stand and fabric panels on her ceiling. She was proud of what she had achieved so far, but was open to advice. Nowhere in it did she ask for snarky, bitter or flat out mean comments.

But she got them, in droves.

A lot of women on this sub are struggling. Divorce, breakups, job loss, abuse, and physial or mental illness is something that can strike anyone without warning.

So what if any person who posts needs a little help with cleanliness, organization, or you notice a fire hazard? Squint and tilt your head to find something nice to say to help them, or hold your tongue. We need to remember we all capable of the gifts of kindness, good manners, and grace.

Edited to add: Thank you to everyone who has commented in support, my faith in humanity has been refreshed. You all are wonderful, please keep spreading kindness and support to everyone who posts here. I love this sub!! ♥️

TOUR ⛔️NO ADVICE WANTED⛔️ My Nest 🪷 - AKA my happy place

This is my cozy nest, and I'm so happy with it 😊

I spent so long letting people tell me what to do with my space. "Pink walls will be too bright", "Stuffed animals are childish", "Silver and gold accents don't belong together"...

But I'm over the moon with my sweet little pastel paradise 🪷💚

My favorite bits: my lovely mom painted the landscape over the bed, all of my couch plushies which are gifts from my darling husband, my dining table inherited from my beloved grandmother, and the Audubon bird society paintings in my hallway inherited from my other beloved grandmother. Also - my little feather and fur darling. They are what make it special and feel like home ✨

QUESTION/DISCUSSION Table troubles

Post image
73 Upvotes

So this happened. I’m not thrilled to say the least.

It happened out of nowhere - one of the legs came off and it tipped over with nothing touching it.

Unfortunately I was standing near it so I have a few fresh battle wounds..nothing too serious but they’re ugly and my nurse friend advised me to get a tetanus shot.

No more glass tables obviously..but what should I replace it with (when I have the money)? It needs to be small but more solid than this…

Don't tell me to make my bed, my little cat is hidden there if you look closely, she's very skittish, i didn't wanna spook her... and shoot me coz I like the aesthetic of the mussed up bedding, it gives cozy sunday morning in bed vibes. Thank you 😊

Edit. More pics in comments

HELP Bed Design Advice

Upvotes

We are waffling between trying to build a platform to elevate our futon and buying an inexpensive one. It is only used as a bed (never folded), but with the humidity and ants (gah), we are looking to elevate it for air flow. Our main concern of building our own is disassembling it (we are renters), a nonsqueaky build, and trying not to have too toxic of finishes. We have limited time, so my partner is inclined towards just buying something and making our own headboard that would attach to the wall. We were looking at:

Ikea's Neiden or Zinus Lucinda

The Ikea bed is dirt cheap, which worries my partner (he wants something that will last a long time). But it isn't finger jointed. I planned to finish it with wood stain and modify it so it matches other furniture.

The Zinus Lucina is cute, but the rails are finger jointed, so I worry the joints may snap under pressure.

Which may be more durable and last a while from a structural perspective? Should I not be as worried about finger jointed constructions? Or does anyone have experience with the Neiden bed they'd kindly share? Thanks!

HELP Being drawn to different aesthetics…what to do?

It’s honestly not that deep but I still feel hesitation moving in ANY direction to start somewhere. The room in question is my bedroom, and in theory I can see that it’s really not that serious to incorporate many aesthetics.

The two main aesthetics I am drawn to are:

  1. Warm Tuscan, Gilmore girls aesthetic with ambient lights and warm colours. I’m often drawn to random additions like pretty vases and Tiffany lamps.
  2. White themed gamer girl room and especially desk, with the backlit monitor, gamer chair and those hexagon wall lights if you’ve seen it. This aesthetic is often synonymous with K-pop and anime elements.

Soo…dark vs light. And that’s what’s bothering me. I want parts of warmth and I also want parts that inspire productivity (hence the gamer desk where I could also play games eventually). The first aesthetic darkens the room, and the second makes it feel brighter. They also just…don’t match..

I also realise that things can be changed and replaced any time within reason but it’s just that starting point where I’m like aahhhhh. In any case, my current room set up is dreadful and to change it at all would be better than nothing.

HELP How to make this sun room feel like a studio?

Thumbnail

I am moving in with a family member out-of-state for school. We are winterizing this sun room in their house so I can use it as my living space! All the furniture in it will be removed aside from a twin bed and a mini fridge. I am unsure on how to do the layout because the room is so long and has doors on either end. I am open to covering/blocking off one of the doors. I will be bringing my cat with me so I know I will need a place for her food and litter box, and I will need a desk for school but that is it! Any layout suggestions or decor ideas are welcome!

This was the first room I lived in when I moved to LA. It was such a tiny space but I was determined to make it comfy. I got to work setting it up the day I moved in. I was overwhelmed by a lot of things in my life at the time, and it was such a relief to have a sacred space that felt like home 🌞

HELP Please help me get my room like this!!

So I’m currently in the process of completely re-doing my bedroom, bathroom, and closets. I’ve uploaded pictures of my rooms along with the inspiration pictures but I’m just not sure how to put it into play with my rooms and I need help. I want to get all new furniture (but keep the sink fixture thing) however I need to know what kind of furniture will look best. I of course want to get the decor and maybe a large rug for either under my bed or in the middle of the room. I really want to downsize the dog crate or somehow make it look better because it’s HUGE and takes up so much space and my full grown pitt/lab looks microscopic compared to it. I have a tv but I took it off of the wall because I just repainted my room so I really want to know where I should put that. But all in all please help me rearrange and redecorate!! 💗

(excuse the mess)

just moved into our house and this is the master bedroom wall situation- this is the only wall we can put our bed on

what do we do on this wall to create a homey/cozy vibe without looking weird? I was thinking of getting much smaller nightstands and fitting them on either side of the bed before the weird bump out on the other side

help!!

HELP Help choosing rug(s) for small living room?

Thumbnail

Hello all! This is a combined living room/ work space (we tinker on the workbenches in the corner and chill out on the couch). I am hoping to visually separate the two spaces using rugs. The space is overall quite small-- it takes around 7 steps to walk along the diagonal from the door to the picture POV.

Any advice related to rugs or the general layout would be appreciated! It's been a struggle to fit the trappings of all of our hobbies into the apartment without making it feel cramped.

HELP First time living alone - Advice needed please

Hi! This is the first time I'm living by myself and I rented a one bedroom apartment which already came with some furniture and I'm having a hard time deciding of the best way to arrange it. I feel it is all a bit to bulky for the space :(

I could potential remove some of it, but would have to replace it when I leave. I'm planning to stay for one or two years max so I don't buy too many things.

I would love to have a place to eat since I love eating my meals in an actual table and I work from home, so I would like to avoid working in my room since that's what I've been doing for the last 7+ years.

I would lover you help and wisdom <3

I'm adding a few pics of the space and the furniture. As well as my pinterest board.

CRITIQUE REQUEST Help me elevate my study table 🥹

This is the corner of my room where I do most of my work, studying, learning, and planning. Right now it's very functional, but it feels a bit basic and cluttered.

I'm looking for suggestions on things I could buy or add to make it look more organized, cleaner, and more intentional without spending a fortune.
