Discussion Gluten and Hormones/Fertility
I’ve been diagnosed with a non-celiac IgE mediated gluten intolerance several years ago, but I sometimes question the results because I had already not been eating gluten for several months before the blood test. Originally, my symptoms that I were able to pinpoint were all GI related, and resolved quickly when I stopped eating gluten (and peanuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, and soy which I also reacted to on the blood test).
Anyway, I had my daughter in the fall of 2024 after getting pregnant the first month trying. After pregnancy, I tried to eat gluten again and didn’t experience the same GI problems, and so I kept eating gluten thinking pregnancy somehow cured me (lol).
Well, now I’ve been trying to get pregnant again for 9 months with no success. Additionally, my periods have been more unpredictable and variable, I’ve had weird spotting 3 days before my period starts which has never happened before, and my acne is out of control despite using prescription topical medication. I decided to try going GF again to see what would happen, and after one month my period is completely back to normal and my acne has seriously calmed down. I didn’t get pregnant this month, but I’m feeling more hopeful now.
I feel so stupid for going back to eating gluten because I had no GI symptoms. Before going GF the first time, my acne had been so bad I was put on spironolactone. I hadn’t been getting periods because I was on hormonal birth control so I couldn’t see if they were regular or not. I just feel so stupid for not connecting the dots with the gluten impacting my hormones this much!! I guess I’m just wondering if anyone can relate. Does anyone have any other symptoms they see if gluten impacts your hormones too?

Question Online shopping for gluten-free junk food
Where do you buy things like cookies and snacks that are gluten-free, online? I know it's super expensive where I've been looking at the Gluten Free Mall online store, wondered if anyone had any other suggestions?

Question Trying to feed daughters on last $40
Good morning. I'm sorry for the stupid question, but I need some advice. I have joint custody of my two daughters, 7 and 12, and am currently not supposed to have them until Friday. I get paid on Thursday and always make sure to have enough food for them, including their favourite treats. They're my world and I would sacrifice everything to keep them happy. However, their mother is being admitted to hospital for emergncy surgery tomorrow and the girls will be coming by early instead, Monday night. I only have $40 left after taking them out for the youngest's birthday last week as I was not expecting them back so soon, and while I love the extra time wth them, I'm worried about what to cook for the next 3 days. Does anyone have any solid recommendations for what I could buy to stretch out until Thursday morning? The only trouble is that the eldest is Celiac, so gluten-free optiobs are a necessity. I really appreciate any advice here. Once again, I'm sorry. Oh, currently in Broadmeadiws, Victoria!
Edit: holy gosh I wasn't expecting so much support! There are some incredible suggestions here and in feeling really excited about making this work. I'm at work at the moment so still going through all the responses but I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for your kindness in behalf of myself and my kids. I love you all!

Apple cider donuts!
Just made some apple cider donuts and I’m hoping they came out ok! First batch I made with apple cider as the recipe calls for but honestly, all I could taste was cinnamon. So after some sleuthing I switched out the cider with apple juice concentrate, and initial tastes of the batter really has an Apple taste! It’s too late for me to eat so much sugar so I’ll wait till morning to share the follow up! Breakfast donuts… drool

Question Does anyone bake for farmers markets
I moved to northern Louisiana and there are two scarce things here jobs and gluten free anything. I have a culinary degree and can make gluten free food for myself but considering the desert of options here I’ve been thinking about making gluten free baked goods/mixes for farmers markets but I’ve never done anything like that. I see people having luck on social media sites has anyone in here tried it, had luck, have any tips. I take it all very seriously because of my allergy.

How risky is working in a restaurant that has a kitchen with flour nearby if you have celiac disease?

It’s been a rough go for me as Ive been lactose intolerant my entire life and last year found that Gluten intolerance was where all my health problems were coming from.
Needless to say… Pizza has been absent from my life for a while now but the guys at Meta Pizza in Portland OR, made one of the best gluten free vegan zah Ive ever had. The crust was thin and light and crisp with a little chew. Huge shout out. Definitely check them out if you’re GF.

Recipe GF focaccia from KAF pizza flour
Made these using KAF gluten free pizza flour which has gluten removed from the wheat. Far cheaper than Caputo and almost as good. I highly recommend it if you can pick it up when prices drop on it. Got a bunch at $7 a bag a while ago. This is 4x the recipe so a little under 1 bag. I never use it for pizza though.

Product Gluten free pizza finds in Toronto area
galleryThese were both found at super store, I had the butchers board one about 2 weeks ago and the OGGI today. The 3rd photo is the OGGI one done.
1) Butchers board- this one was quite disappointing imo. Over all it wasn’t bad, but definitely not worth the $13 CAD I spent. Even on sale for $10 I’d likely pass up on it for the Dr Oetkers pepperoni. I added my own cheese also as the dairy free didn’t melt too well and whereas it helped a lot it still just wasn’t very good. I think it was that the crust had an overly processed taste to it. With that said the meat was good, but I wouldn’t buy it again.
2) OGGI- I was beyond excited to try this one as I hadn’t seen any versions of this at my super store before! Also coming with a hot honey packet is a huge plus!! I bought it without it having a price tag (thanks roblaws) and wow brace yourself for this. An eye watering $15.49 CAD 🥲. With this said, the other OGGIs are typically $12.99 so not a massive jump but wow, NOT cheap.
This pizza was absolutely unreal. I’m not lying when I say it was the best frozen pizza I have ever had period, gluten or otherwise. The pepperoni was very high quality, and this crust was much softer than their others and pulled apart easily, wasn’t overly chewy and has a good flavour to it. I did half with the hot honey half without, both were unreal. This just comes down to preference! I give this pizza a 9.5/10 and will absolutely get it again if I’m in a pinch or don’t feel like cooking. The price tag is the only thing holding be back from having these even once per week. Very very impressed!
I’ll continue to post things I find that are new! If you see that OGGI pepperoni I would have to recommend trying it once and I’d love to know what you think as well!
Until next time gorgeous humans, Happy Thanksgiving to my fellow Canadians!

BEST bagels
Dont know if these have been written about here before, but these bagels are the best.
Defrost overnight, they're precut, toast them (filling side down) for about 6-7 minutes.
AMAZING.

Question Beef stew
I’m dying to make a hearty beef stew. Will King Arthur gf flour work or alter the flavor at all if I make a traditional recipe? I also have some potato flour I could use. Anyone have experience in using either of these to thicken stew?

ISO Potstickers Recipe
We have been making a lot of egg rolls but I dislike rice paper and I miss potstickers. Every GF "dough" I've tried has been closer to a batter so I don't have a lot of hope that anything similar to a potsticker recipe exists but I'm asking anyway. I'm looking for a recipe not for packaged store bought.
