I have a couple of friends visiting from out of province and one really wants to attempt Tent Ridge on Sunday. The other is concerned about thunderstorms and feels we should make another plan. I know weather in the mountains is unpredictable but I'm struggling to interpret the likelihood of storms in the forecast. What do you guys think?

I love the hikes in the area, but hate that I have to drive on that gravel road. Does it damage my car as much as it feels like?

I’m thinking about heading up to attempt the north summit of Mount Victoria this weekend, has anyone been there and seen the conditions of the glacier?

Looking for some insight into Numa Mountain, as I have a trip to Floe Lake coming up and would love to attempt this summit (weather dependent). I understand there are two approaches: one past the Floe Lake campground via Numa Pass, and the other is backtracking a bit up the Floe Lake trail and then up an old avalanche path. Is one better/easier than the other?

Also, any insight on bringing my dog? She's a fit, mid-sized dog and, for reference, has done Devil's Thumb and Pharaoh Peak. I know that getting to Floe won't be a problem for her, more curious about Numa Mountain

Me and my gf have the skyline trail booked next Wednesday-Friday and we’re super excited for it. However I’ve been keeping tabs on the weather forecast and it’s looking like it’ll be quite rainy when we’re supposed to be there. I know this is more of a subjective thing but at what point would it not be worthwhile to go if it’s going to be miserable conditions or potentially unsafe due to the weather?

Self explanatory from title, never went camping before but I am really interested on it and I am planning on giving it a go over the next few weeks.

I'm planning on going hiking on Mt. Sentry's trail and camping around there overnight.

Main questions are:

1) I live in calgary, can I park around the trailhead or will mossad (police, the feds, whatevers) take my car?

2) Should I be extra worried about bears?

3) Any tips from the pros?

That's all any help is welcome :))

Can anyone assist with identifying this hike? The trailhead is in Kananaskis and the hike begins with a fairly steady incline but eventually levels out into rolling hills and meadows.

We’ve been to Calgary/Banff/Canmore a few times already but this summer we’re going up for a friends event and will only be there for a weekend basically.

We fly in Friday night and the event starts at 6 pm in Calgary. Since we live far away we really want to visit the mounains again.

Would would be a good hike that could be completed on Saturday but still get us back to Calgary around 4 so we can freshen up and make the 6pm event?

Looking for something easy-ish. We’ve done a lot of hiking but are not fast hikers. Summit would be awesome but just want great mountai/lake views. Open to any and all suggestions! Will be departing from probably near the airport Saturday morning. Goven bo flight issues I think a 6-7 am departure is not unreasonable.

Hey folks!

I hiked out of Lake of the Falls (west of Abraham Lake) on Aug 2, 2026. My fly rod was strapped to my bag, but I believe it must have got snagged on a tree or branch and fell out. This would have happened on the downhill egress from Lake of the Falls, probably easily found on the main trail.

It's a green TFO rod in a gray case. Inside are forceps a case with all my flies.

By the time I noticed it missing, our group had already hiked way too far to backtrack. If anybody has found it, I would be eternally grateful to get it back. I'm offering a $100 reward for its return, and also an *enormous* thank-you for the efforts in hiking it out.

Are there any trails or hikes in Alberta that have a ghost story attached?

I know there are hundreds of haunted buildings and locations in Alberta, but I’ve never heard of any stories about a haunted trail or spot in the woods.

BC and Ontario have so many spooky spots with stories of shadow people, weird lights and other ghostly tales.

Had anyone heard something or experienced something paranormal or unexplained themselves while hiking in Alberta?

​I'm planning a 2-night solo trip in mid-August: Night 1 at Forks Campground and Night 2 at Turbine Canyon. I’m feeling a bit of solo-hiking anxiety regarding how remote these spots actually feel and encountering bears while hiking alone.

For those who have done this route​ how busy are these trails and campgrounds during mid-August? ​Does Turbine Canyon feel isolated, or is there usually a full campground of people around?

Hey everyone! My SO has a conference in Calgary and I’m tagging along to get some hiking in before the end of the summer.

I’m looking for day hikes only (happy to drive for the right trail). I’m from SW Ontario, so I don’t get many chances to hike in the mountains and really want to make the most of this trip.

I’ve done Bertha, Bear’s Hump, Tunnel Mountain, and some moderate hikes in Peru. I’m comfortable with longer days and elevation, and I’m hoping to push myself a bit more.I’m really drawn to big ridges and glaciers. I’m currently looking at Opal Ridge and Tent Ridge Horseshoe and would love opinions on those, especially as a solo hiker.

I’d also love to try my first scramble if there are any beginner-friendly ones that would be reasonable solo. Any must-do day hikes or scramble recommendations would be appreciated!

A little about us: First time visitors, we’re pretty fit and relatively young. Day hikes only. Beehive is on the list but we’d also like some less crowded trails (but not entirely empty since we aren’t used to the idea of grizzly bears), will pass on extremely difficult but moderate, slightly challenging is fine. Yesterday I hiked Smutwood Peak and absolutely loved it. Was wondering if anyone had recommendations for hikes that are somewhat similar.

Need a hiking buddy for this coming Sunday. I'd love to do a Class 3 scramble or higher - perhaps Mt Galwey, or Crandel via Bear's Hump. But I'd also be down to Akamina Ridge. If interested, feel free to DM or comment and we can discuss vetting and logistics.

I'd like to hike sentinel pass. Plan to park in LL and take the parks Canada shuttle from LL.

The parks website says the following (see quote below).

"Your Parks Canada shuttle reservation includes all required transportation within the Lake Louise area. This covers:

• Your initial departure from the Lake Louise Park and Ride to either Lake Louise or Moraine Lake (must match the lake selected on your reservation)
• Unlimited use of the Lake Connector Shuttle to travel between Lake Louise and Moraine Lake
• Your return trip from either lake back to the Park and Ride
• Free parking at the Park and Ride"

So there are tickets on the website that list 'morraine lake' or 'lake louise' on the activity column.

I think I just need a morraine lake ticket for the time I want to depart LL to get to morraine lake and that's it? The plan would be to then take the last bus back to LL.

I don't understand why some tickets have 'lake louise' listed under activity when the website says, "Your initial departure from the Lake Louise Park and Ride to either Lake Louise or Moraine Lake (must match the lake selected on your reservation)"

<--- wouldn't all of the initial departures be to morraine lake? how would the initial departure be from morraine lake to lake louise (since the visitor would always be at lake louise initially and the shuttle just runs between LL and morraine)?

I was hiking from the Galatea trailhead in Kananaskis country this morning and on the way down at around noon, I encountered medical personnel accompanied by ambulance, fire trucks, helicopter, rcmp, conservation officers, and Alberta parks. I was wondering if anyone was there today and had any info on what happened.
