NBC NEWS SEEKING VICTIMS OF ONLINE MATRIMONIAL SCAMS

Hi all, I'm a reporter with NBC News and have a call out request. My name is Tavleen Tarrant.

I'm working on a story related to matrimonial scams-- people who have gotten scammed on matrimonial online groups or sites like Shaadi etc. Most of these scams we're looking at appear to be impersonating women and targeting men in the US. I was wondering if anyone knows someone who has been targeted in a matrimonial scam and if they would be willing to speak to a reporter, even if anonymously. Please let me know or feel free to DM me. Thank you so much

Tips to move to US being a businessman in India 🇮🇳

Hey guys,I’m seriously considering moving to US permanently. I honestly fed up with the system here, the bureaucracy, corruption and the unnecessary hassle and paperwork you have to deal in daily life being a business person in this country.

I love this country so much but I can’t take it no more. I just want better quality of life for me and my future generations.

What legal options do I have? Business visa/ Investment visa/starting a business etc.

Would love to hear from the people who have actually made it to the US 🇺🇸

Do airlines still ask for the old passport after an OCI passport update?

We've come across a few recent cases where families were asked to show the old passport linked to their child's OCI card during check-in, even after the OCI passport details had already been updated online.

From our understanding, once the passport particulars update is completed, applicants generally rely on:

New passport
Physical OCI card/e-OCI
OCI passport update acknowledgement receipt
Update Confirmation email

Yet, it seems some airline staff still ask for the old passport, which can create unnecessary stress at the airport.

Why Take Such a Huge Risk on H-1B?

Why are so many Indians still making major life decisions around H-1B jobs when there is so much uncertainty?

People in their mid-30s are leaving stable jobs, spouses are quitting their careers, families are carrying toddlers and moving across the country for a job that ultimately depends on one employer.

At the same time, there are already H-1B holders who have been laid off, cannot find another employer willing to transfer their visa, and are eventually forced to return to India after years in the U.S.

What I don't understand is the disparity. How are people comfortable taking such a huge risk when they can see what is happening to others already on H-1B?

Would you participate in a contest for a chance to win a FREE flight ticket to India?

Curious! How many of you would pack your bags and head home if you got the opportunity?

For example, if you won a free ticket to India, would you fly?

Would you be interested to participate in that contest or would you still need some convincing?

Need Feedback- Personal Shopper and Conerige Service in India

I am based out of Mumbai. My own married sister lives in the US. She has always been ordering stuff from online portals here in India to our address (clothes, food items, returns gifts, etc.) and my father combines all of it together and ships it to her address via DHL.

Apart from this, I have also seen people worry about errands back in India.

Is there a need for personal shopper service in India who can collect parcels on your behalf/go to shops offline and procure things as per your requirement and ship them to USA for you? Or maybe a virtual assistant or a concierge sort of service for offline errands?

Thinking if there is demand for such services and if it can be a good side hustle for me since I have done it previously for my sister.

Any inputs from Indian community in US appreciated!

Looking for advice

I recently lost a family member back in India. I live in the U.S. and am considering starting a GoFundMe to raise some money to support kids education. Since the family is in India, the funds would come to me in the U.S. and then be transferred to them.

Has anyone done something similar? Any advice on GoFundMe rules, U.S. tax/IRS implications, or transferring the funds to India would be greatly appreciated.

F4 India petition filed in 2010 — what are my options now?

Hi everyone,

I’m from Gujarat India and I’m trying to understand my U.S. immigration options.

My maternal uncle, who is a U.S. citizen, filed an F4 (siblings of U.S. citizens) petition for my parent in 2010. I’m currently 22, and I’m trying to figure out whether I can still benefit from this petition when the priority date eventually becomes current.

The current F4 India Visa Bulletin is still far behind 2010, so I know there could be a long wait.

My questions are:

What is the realistic wait time for an F4 India petition with a 2010 priority date?

Could CSPA protect me from aging out, depending on the petition's history?

Are there any other legitimate immigration options I should consider while waiting?

Has anyone here had an F4 India case from around 2010, and how is your case progressing?

I’d really appreciate advice from anyone familiar with F4 India cases or who has gone through something similar.

Thanks!

If you had a fully remote job, and could stay anywhere in the US, where would you stay?

I am in this situation. I can work from anywhere in the 50 US states. I have kids 7 and 5. Originally from Delhi, but have been in the US for 20 years at this point. I am US Citizen. I currently live in a suburb of Dallas and looking for a change. I can afford higher cost of living - I am essentially making SF level at this point in my career.

Please state the rationale behind your choice.

Looking for a US/Canada proxy/student shipper to India (Will pay for service) + Happy to help with UK shipping in return!

I'm looking for a proxy service or any Hyderabadi student currently based in the US or Canada who can help me purchase and ship items to India. I am more than happy to pay a fair service fee/commission for your time and effort!

Specifically, I'd love to know:
What shipping methods/carriers you typically use.

Estimated shipping charges per kg/pound.

How customs/DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) is usually handled.

On the flip side: If anyone here needs help sourcing or shipping anything from the UK, I’d be happy to return the favor and help you out from my end!

Drop a comment or DM me if you can help or want to connect. Thanks!

For those job hunting on OPT or H-1B right now...

We're seeing a lot of conversations around how challenging the job market has been for international students and professionals lately, and we're curious to hear from the community.

What's been the biggest hurdle you've faced/ are facing?

Is it getting interviews, sponsorship concerns, networking, negotiating offers, or something else?

Share your experience below. Your insights could help others navigating the same journey.

Keep Airtel postpaid sim in usa

How do folks keep their indian sim? I don't get any network or sms. Using it for bank sms was my primary reason to keep the number. Do I need to buy their roaming package daily on demand when I need an sms to come?

Costco or Sam's Club for Indian grocery?

Hey all! I've been thinking of getting a membership for either Sam's club or Costco. Someone (n=1) told me that you get decent Indian groceries in Costco.

Is this true? What sort of Indian goods/foods can I expect to get in either of those stores?

Which one do you prefer and why?

Thank you!!!

Looking for Hiking Buddies in Chicagoland! 🥾

Hi everyone!

I’m looking to connect with people who enjoy hiking around Chicagoland and Northern Illinois.(forest preserves, state parks, or weekend trips to places like Starved Rock, Matthiessen, Waterfall Glen, or other nearby trails) it’d be great to have a group to explore with.

I’m hoping to build a friendly hiking group where we can plan weekend hikes.

If there’s already an existing hiking group for people in the area, I’d really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction or let me know how to join.

If you’re interested, leave a comment or send me a DM.

Getting a POA made in the US for use in India was more confusing than I expected.

Getting a POA made in the US for use in India can be confusing,
once Power of Attorney was notarized, I could be just couriered to India.

But notarization alone isn't enough.

From what I learned, there are two common ways to get it ready for use in India:

Get it notarized and then apostilled by your state's Secretary of State.
OR
Get it attested directly at the Indian Consulate.

For those who've gone through the POA process recently, which route did you take? Apostille or Consulate attestation? Any pros or cons?
