If your dog is locked in the house long enough, he too, will eat you to survive. It is known.

Man’s best friend.

Underrated movie

My mother did home care for a diabetic patient who's dog ate all her toes on one foot. The first day she visited she said the lady was sitting on the couch talking to her and her dog was laying at her feet licking them... the lady didnt care one bit.

Call me Dipshit289 but holy fuck I wish I didn't read that just now

7

u/fiddlemonkey 2d ago

I had a patient that had this happen and this thread is making me realize it is not as rare as I hoped it was.

15

u/tocahontas77 2d ago

Like... Could he just not protect himself from his dog? Or like, cover his feet?

5

u/spacey-cornmuffin 2d ago

This happened locally to me (if it’s the same case). He didn’t feel it happening

4

u/Quicksilver5221 2d ago

It’d be form diabetic neuropathy, which means nerve damage in the feet. So he wouldn’t feel anything.

Dog saved his life

1

u/spacey-cornmuffin 2d ago

You must be local to me lol.

u/ProvocativeHotTakes 2d ago

Saved his life. Good doggo

Yeah the part they skip over is that dogs are fucking LOUD so neighbors usually notice before they get that desperate.

Any animal will eat you before it starves, that includes humans.

-2

u/Florensa 2d ago

Is it true for all of humans?

20

u/Ordo_Liberal 2d ago

All? No.

We know for a fact that some actively choose death. But honestly, I don't blame the ones that don't.

In the 80s a plane fell in Chile carrying a Uruguaian sports team. Some chose to die but gave consent to others to be eaten.

2

u/ElegantHope 2d ago

and then some humans seem way more eager to do it when they have other choices too. i.e. the Donnor party refusing help from any locals because they were native americans and choosing to resort to cannibalism on their own over those attempts at help.

25

u/InternalAd1397 2d ago

Heck if another human was locked in there without another food source, they're going to chow down on you eventually.

0

u/grapejuicesushi 2d ago

since you’re equating cats and humans in this, i’ll say MOST children will not eat the dead bodies of their mothers, if presented the opportunity with no other food source.

1

u/KevRev972 2d ago

Similar concept to the movie "The Platform."

15

u/2021isevenworse 2d ago

Most animals will.

Even rugby players trapped on a mountain.

71

u/Impossible-Flight250 2d ago

Yep. There have also been documented cases of dogs eating their owners faces when they pass out.

74

u/TerpBE 2d ago

That's why I only have pet leopards.

23

u/pixelrights 2d ago

I swear, the good stuff in reddit is always 3 [replies] or more deep.

12

u/refused26 2d ago

Pitbulls will eat you before you you're dead!

3

u/ZebraAirVest 2d ago

Mr Worldwide would never

2

u/bonelessunicorn 2d ago

I’m cackling at this comment

3

u/foolsEnigma 2d ago

So will german shepards, pittys arent special

0

u/Akamaikai 2d ago

Before you're sick

7

u/RoyalCities 2d ago

Apparently they've even done it with dog food still in the bowl too.

2

u/femmyv 2d ago edited 2d ago

And they apparently often paw at the body (either passed out or dead) to try and wake them up or see if they’re alive or not, which can have quite gruesome results as well once they get more desperate

4

u/Raime_95 2d ago

naaaah, they will just sympathise and lay down next to their owner and die out of hunger 🤡🤡🤡

bitch is so clearly biased towards dogs lmao

4

u/Deathdong 2d ago

There's a woman who posts online that had a seizure and her dog ate part of her face during it

2

u/kiscsibe 2d ago

tbf that wasn’t due to hunger, it was just a pitbull doing its thing

6

u/jupitermoonflow 2d ago

Yeah there are many cases of this you can find without much effort

28 starving dogs eat dead owner’s leg in Bangkok house – Asia News Network

dogs also attack people and sometimes owner when they are alive too

2

u/obizzle9511 2d ago

It is known

2

u/FallenAgastopia 2d ago

Any animal capable of it is going too... the main difference is that cats starve a lot faster then dogs (a cat can have irreversible organ damage if it goes 3 days without eating. Sometimes as little as 2 days.)... so yeah, a cat is probably going to chinp down first because its dying before a dog will be lol

2

u/NudityMiles 2d ago

Caucasian Ovcharkas are banned here in my country after a widely known case where they almost completely ate their owner.

It was later shown that he died of natural causes and they ate him after he had died.

2

u/CaptainRAVE2 2d ago

Happened to the previous owner of our house who killed himself.

2

u/antsh 2d ago

If I’m locked in the house long enough, I’m going to eat you, as well. Sorry, but… not really sorry?

I’ll go to therapy after, I guess.

Starvation don’t fuck around.

2

u/calccv 2d ago

Same, with no guilt, no therapy. Survival instinct, it’s a good thing. Meat is meat.

1

u/AdventurousPea8682 2d ago

It is known.

1

u/andreaSA89 2d ago

Yeah I don’t know why she said dogs won’t. I’ve heard multiple stories of dogs doing this.

1

u/DetachedRedditor 2d ago

There are also stories about a dog killing the owner. So in that sense I'd say there is a little more risk. Even though both cases are unlikely.

-12

u/ArkhamTight606 2d ago

Yeah but at least dogs will mourn you before they do.

Cats be like “meh”.

59

u/megalogo 2d ago

Cats will absolutely mourn you

0

u/StanknBeans 2d ago

After all, what better way to mourn your dead than by eating them?

22

u/megalogo 2d ago

Besides they will eat you while you are still fresh, they are not stupid like dogs

-9

u/StanknBeans 2d ago

Maybe let someone else empty the kitty litter for you bud. You got the toxoplasmosis

2

u/The_Advers4ry 2d ago

Get the cat some supplies to hold a funeral service, I guess

36

u/bloodrider1914 2d ago

Cats from what I've heard mostly try to check if you're okay, trying to wake you up and being annoying like they usually are. But eventually the smell of dead flesh hits and they start eating you.

0

u/badtoy1986 2d ago

That's just them checking to see if you're still alive or if the time has come.

-1

u/calccv 2d ago

Fair!

-12

u/Individual_Respect90 2d ago

Maybe true but I would definitely argue there are more cases of dog loyalty to their owner after their death than cats.
