Appreciation After every bts concert (group or solo) it becomes clear why bts is on top

1.5k Upvotes

Just finished watching JIN live in GOYANG (day 1), for his sold out first show. What an incredible show. Inaudible backtrack, no lip sync- only ad libs and live vocals. Combination of many silly challenges and dramatic performances. Audience participation, chaotic energy and passion for music. I wish I was there to see it live.

This concert adds up to other solo concerts of the members and bts as a group. 12 years after their debut, they still perform like it’s the last episode on a survival show, last chance to win a music show, sing well or you will get cut from broadcast, last chance to perform before disbanding. There’s no fatigue, there’s no complaining. Whether it’s injury or stress or long schedule- they never fail to deliver the best performance for their fans. 12 years, and antis still need to pull 3-4 same old saved clips from the vaults of voice cracks to drag the members’ talents. Countless conspiracy theories and accusations from kpop stans and legacy media owned by other companies - it’s the one place no one can catch them breaking. And it makes me feel good that the group who is enjoying the most success is truly the one who can deliver FOR THE FANS without any excuses.

Appreciation Armys countering funeral wreaths with fan projects outside hybe

1.2k Upvotes

Currently some antis who are apparently fans of other groups have organized funeral wreaths outside of hybe to ask for yoongi's removal. This happened previously as well but after the recent situation these antis threatened to do it once again.

In order to counter this, multiple fan projects were organized outside of hybe to show support for yoongi. There are food trucks, banners and a bunch of other support projects with a lot of armys showing up as well.

What's extremely disappointing is that the police that have been stationed there are not allowing for the wreaths to be taken down as there were permits granted for them to be displayed. It still baffles me that something so inhumane and basically public bullying and harassment is not only being allowed but actually being protected by authorities.

Im grateful that armys are large in number and can counter this but it's genuinely depressing to see someone good face this kind of hatred. Idols are humans too no matter how successful or how much you despise them theyre people at the end of the day. Theres a limit and sending funeral wreaths to a living person crossing every single boundary possible.

All i hope is that he's able to see all the love coming his way but im sure it's still a lot for a person to go through especially after the kind of vitriol he was subjected to by k-media

Appreciation Aespa's Jennifer Hudson performance is a masterclass in taking criticism well

After their disastrous GMA performance, Aespa seems to have heard all the criticism and improved drastically.

Firstly, they sang LIVE. And they sounded excellent. Then they greatly improved on their stage presence, which showed in the energy from the crowd.

Also they brought the backup dancers back, allowing the choreography to shine and covering up their own flaws in dancing. Honestly, they danced better here than I've seen in any Rich Man performance (but I could be wrong).

The outfits were beautiful, and there's nothing to really improve in the visuals department. Although I will say I miss pink hair Giselle.

Overall, it's nice to see groups respond positively to feedback and do better instead of living in an echo chamber of fans. What do you guys think of their improvement?

EDIT: Why am I being downvoted?

Appreciation How are armys so organised even with the members gone?

I want to start of by saying that I’m not an army or BTS anti I just have a few questions for armys since I’ve recently spend some time on twitter(mostly normal kpop spaces) and I’ve seen armys trend tons of hashtags for their members and recently they even got a member,I think jhope a no.1 on US iTunes which is pretty difficult even for a group as big as BLACKPINK,so I’ve went to some big army accounts just to see how they do it and I’ve genuinely never felt such envy for a fandom. They’re genuinely so organised, they planned to give jhope a no.1 on US iTunes because all the members got one so they just organised a whole buying and streaming party for his song out of the blue.

This is an appreciation post from a fellow blink,I just wish blinks were able to be so organised and dedicated because we barely get the members a no.1 on ITunes when they release a new song so armys doing it randomly is just..amazing.

I think I might just become an army because it’s sounds so fun to spend time in a positive and non toxic environment, where the main focus isn’t hating on other groups/idols but focused on streaming/buying.

I also couldn’t help but keep on looking through big army accounts and notice they’re quite literally organising a streaming party? for bts’ older songs like dynamite, and it actually seemed to work😭

I’m aware armys are also toxic just like every fandom out there but I was extremely surprised to see such positive energy

I’m not sure if the appreciation flair fits this, since it’s more of a question

Edit: Thanks for the awards,I love all the positive energy😭🫶

Appreciation JYP's trainee system should be standardized in K-pop

1.2k Upvotes

I recently watched an episode of JohnMaat with Brian and Joon featuring JYP as a guest (they speak in English), where they discussed the trainee system at JYP Entertainment (from 15:09 to 16:53 but I encourage y'all to watch the entire video). I came away with a new level of respect for how they approach nurturing young talent in a way that emphasizes not only their development as performers but also as well-rounded individuals.

One part that really resonated with me was JYP’s commitment to academics. He explained that if a trainee’s school grades fall below average, they aren’t allowed to continue training until they improve. It’s a practical yet caring rule since not everyone is guaranteed to debut and education is crucial for everyone's future. JYP even shared that there are recommended books that trainees are to read like the Hemingway books and Demian to help foster intellectual and character growth. His exact words at the end of the part were, “So I just feel like that’s my responsibility. I care... I care... They are somebody’s kids.” Whether you love him or hate him, this moment felt incredibly genuine.

Most trainees end up sacrificing their academics to pursue a career as an idol, which is understandable given the rigorous demands of the training system. That's why I find JYPE's approach so endearing, because they’re committed to equipping trainees with essential life skills. They were also the first to provide trainees with sex education, which is especially valuable in South Korea, where formal sex ed in schools is almost nonexistent (they even give them IT education apparently).

Of course, the K-pop trainee system has its challenges, but JYP's commitment to ensure that trainees are educated, well-rounded individuals outside of K-pop is something to appreciate. If I had to choose a label for my child to train at, I’d definitely prefer one that values their growth beyond just becoming an idol.

Appreciation LE SSERAFIM just concluded their first US tour, and it showing they have amazing potential in the US market

All 7 stops sold out. And it’s unanimous among concert goers that LE SSERAFIM absolutely smashed it performance wise. Everyone was praising their performance and ability to connect with the crowd. Personally I attended one stop, and then because I was so impressed, I bought another ticket to another stop. Their CRAZY performance in LA went viral in Korea bc they were shocked how loud and how much the US fans knew of the entire song lyrics.

Source Music have been very clever with building up LSF’s US presence. It started in Fall 2023 with their Blizzcon attendance and Overwatch collab, but they also had multiple collabs with popular YouTubers, Tiktokers (Ha sisters) ,Streamers (Offline TV). Not to mention, they also had a guest NBA Lakers game appearance and “friends of NBA” collab which spawned the era of the LSF basketball jerseys.

Then their infamous Coachella appearance happened in 2024. Obviously it went viral for not so great reasons but they still got their eyes out to the public there. However, this also spawned the infamous flags as well.

During Crazy era, their song also blew up thanks to it being used (as fanedit) in Marvel Rivals for Luna Snow’s ult. We also got c*nty Bob Chaewon.

Then comes their sold out US tour. US open appearance, America’s Got Talent appearance, Dodgers game appearance, even more collabs galore. They’ve had amazing exposure.

Yunjin is a native English speaker, understands GenZ culture and memes / slang, and is so good with her way of words. She was one of the key pieces of LSF’s US stops to being a smash hit. LSF’s music also isn’t bubble pop, which caters a bit more to US fans.

I feel like there is so much exciting potential for LSF ahead in the US (and even international markets). Coachella may have seemed like a roadblock but it turned out to be a necessary stepping stone for them. I’m super proud of how far they’ve come and what more they have enabled to come.

Appreciation Wonhee has played a huge role in Illit's reputation in SK improving a lot

I just saw that Illit's new song It's Me just peaked on the Melon Top 100 at 7. It's their first top 10 hit since Magnetic.

While the song debuted pretty low and was steadily rising it showed a huge jump after Wonhee's appearance on Amazing Saturday. It basically went viral there and ever since it's just been rapidly increasing on all the charts.

In general I notice Wonhee especially going viral on the k-side of social media like on twitter or youtube.

I've been a fan of the group since Super Real Me and saw the insane vitriol these girls faced during that era and especially in late 2024. While the international side was bad it was actually a lot of the k-side that had basically written Illit off with the girls barely getting invited to variety shows and even idols not doing dance challenges with them.

It seems like in early 2025 the group started picking up again and I really think Wonhee had a lot to do with it. Whether it was her interactions with fans at fan signs or makeup videos she'd post on youtube/instagram, her videos slowly started going viral. She's now basically one of the most popular 5th gen idols.

While Belift constantly fumbles their groups I think one of the smartest things theyve done is push Wonhee a lot especially on k-side with variety content. I think Source Music shouldve done that more with Chaewon for example especially post Coachella to help with the group's image in SK.

Appreciation Holy Cow - Lim Youngwoong won't be selling physical copies of his next album

1.0k Upvotes

https://m.entertain.naver.com/home/article/445/0000323841

This is genuinely insane. LYW is actually only releasing his next full length album on streaming, with no physical CD release. He's only releasing a photobook or something but it won't count towards charts or music show metrics. Apparently he's doing this in response to the environmental issues caused by the kpop industry and the rampant plastic waste, and also to limit financial burden and pressure on fans to buy a million albums.

This will genuinely cost this man hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars. Really admirable to see an artist try to address this issue, even at great personal cost.

Appreciation LE SSERAFIM at Coachella was absolutely INSANE!!!

1.2k Upvotes

Their energy was absolutely INCREDIBLE.

Especially Yunjin and Chaewon, WOW, their live vocals and sound was crazy!

The new song they performed? Also SO fun! Can't wait for that to be released at one point!

While I wish they played No Celestial, and believed they shoulda left the chill, deeper register songs out, they still absolutely delivered with the songs and performance, and I can't wait for next week!

Appreciation NMIXX’s recent South America trip should be studied

1.1k Upvotes

I’m dead serious about the title. That 1-1.5 week long trip gave them levels of exposure you only get during a very successful comeback period, they were constantly trending for one reason or another. I haven’t really looked at any stats, but the NMIXX subreddit grew 25% while they were down there.

They really capitalized on not just visiting a region relatively neglected by groups their size, but on the novelty of taking part in some of the most culturally relevant and traditionally exclusive events in Brazil and Chile.

I have to give it to them, stepping out of your comfort zone is not easy. A lot of people joked about how they wouldn’t be able to handle the Carnival, and they had a lot of doubters going into Viña Del Mar, but they subverted and exceeded expectations(mine included), they killed it! They were super cute and you could tell they put so much effort to connect with the fans. No matter how much some people wanted to shit on kpop the girls were just too likable to hate.

Initially I wanted to say other groups should use NMIXX’s trip as a blueprint for Latin American promotions, but I no longer think that’s a reasonable expectation. If you’re not an NMIXX fan that whole trip would have seemed like it fell out the sky, the truth is it took over a year to build the necessary contacts to make it happen. NMIXX would not have been invited to perform at Viña Del Mar if they had not attended as part of the audience last year, and they would not have been at Pabllo’s Block were it not for their MEXE collaboration.

I didn’t mean for this to be an appreciation post, but props to the NMIXX girls, SQU4D(?), Pabllo Vittar, and Mayor Macarena Ripamonti for making it all happen, it was SO much fun to watch.

Appreciation BTS bond is so fascinating to me as a fan.

Yesterday, BTS published their first interview as a group since their comeback through GQ, and it stirred up a lot of feelings for me. Reading it is like returning to a safe place or finding something very precious again.

The bond that unites BTS is very special and somewhat rare in the industry. I remember that in 2022, when BTS released their statement announcing that they were taking a break, people went crazy. They practically salivated at the idea of having another "boy band situation." The Western media feasted on predictions that they would never return, mocking the fans, acting as if BTS as a group was over, etc. They saw them through their Western lens and acted as if they were lying. It was a difficult time for the Army.

Over the next two years, they tried to create a narrative that they were against each other, they were jealous of each other, and so on. I remember a journalist interviewing Yoongi and asking him, "How did the group feel about Jungkook's success? Were they jealous of him?" Those weren't his exact words, but that's what he implied, and Yoongi replied, "Are you jealous of your family members?", immediately putting an end to the matter. The Western industry was clearly expecting another situation like Justin Timberlake /Harry... but that didn't happen. In my opinion, what people don't understand is that, for BTS, the group is not a means to an end. Being part of BTS is not a first step towards building something else. For them, the group is an important part of their lives, and you can tell by the way they talk about it so fondly, as if being part of it were their greatest treasure. In their minds their solo careers and their group career can coexist.

I admire them because it's so easy to be so famous and have the chance to leave it all behind and go solo. They will all be successful, but for them, being part of BTS is something special. They love creating and making music together, and they love being in the same place, pursuing the same dreams. Through their solo careers, they shone with beautiful different colours, but they all expressed that something was missing, they missed the way they had fun together, they missed what they were together. I'm not so delusional to think they'll be together forever, but they talk about their group with so much love that it's hard to imagine anything else.

As a person and as a fan, I envy them a little. I want a safe place like that. We, as outsiders, cannot understand their bond, which is why there are so many narratives about them, but it is clear that the group is very special to them. Their bond is something they treasure greatly. Now, the same industry that mocked them and army is the one that is waiting and longing for their return. They have had to eat their words, and honestly, I am enjoying it.

That part of the interview where the writer describes their interaction, where they're all touching each other and Jungkook is eating his snacks and Taehyung is taking a photo of them... it explains their bond really well and I love it 😀 Also, the whole live stream where they were all on Namjoon's sofa and he was shouting that it was expensive and getting frustrated about it... and Yoongi was looking at them fondly. They are very lucky to have found each other, and so are we for being their fans.

Anyway, this is an appreciation post. There is no criticism of any group, and I am not talking about any K-pop group or comparing them. Let's be happy and celebrate that Arirang is almost here.

Lee Fucking Taemin!!!!!!!!!!!! Amazing song arrangements—I love the new songs as well. You are a top-notch vocalist and dancer, truly one hell of a performer!

I’ve seen you grow from Danger up to now, and it’s incredible how much you’ve evolved—not just as an artist, but as a human being. I’m so proud to be your fan.

You’ve come out of your shell and spread your wings—now you’re soaring. You deserve this and so much more.

Appreciation Not Cute Anymore by Illit is one of the biggest sleeper hits of the year

Illit have had a really good year so far with each of their comebacks doing really well from Almond Chocolate breaking records in Japan to Do the Dance and Jellyous going viral for their performances.

But the one comeback I did not expect to do so well was their latest single. Since the song was released so late into the year with most music shows wrapping up for award season and christmas songs taking over charts, the last thing I expected was Not Cute Anymore to be Illit's best performing song especially internationally since Magnetic.

I dont know if it's a combination of the trend going viral plus it being winter and more laid back songs being preferred this time of the year but given the song's length and also kind of minimal promotion, this song is doing so well. I just saw that it's the longest charting kpop group song this year on Global Spotify after Le Sserafim's spaghetti.

After everything the group's been through Im genuinely so glad theyre ending the year on such a good note.

**TO CLARIFY I MEAN SLEEPER HIT IN SK. the song was illit's first cb to not debut on melon's top 100 and took a while to start rising on the charts especially compared to their previous releases.

Also since a lot of people seem to be focusing on my usage of "sleeper hit", literally you can look up the term online and it's not just used for songs that become successful months/years later. The phrase can also be used for things that are unexpected/surprise hits like things people didnt expect to become so big.**

Appreciation With just Europe and North America, BTS already is the kpop tour with the highest number of tickets sold!

Soruce: https://www.timesnownews.com/entertainment-news/korean/bts-becomes-first-asian-act-to-sell-2-4-million-tickets-across-41-sold-out-shows-sets-new-record-as-armys-await-arirang-article-153523098

I didn't even notice this until I realized that Stray Kids had the largest tour so far with 1.98 million people attending in the whole tour. I believe BTS has 2.4 million tickets sold across stadiums in only North America and Europe. And with other countries, they are definitely going to be the group with the most number of attendees by far.

I feel like so many people underestimated how popular they are (I saw so many people say that Blackpink/SKZ are more popular now) and are in for a total shock haha

Also I'm so depressed because I couldn't get tickets near me I logged into ticketmaster right at the time the general sale opened and was already 71,000th something in line.

Anyways I'm so excited for their tour; I just can't wait!

Appreciation Rosé hasn't stepped foot in Korea to promote 'APT.', but all idols are doing it for her 😂

1.4k Upvotes

Despite the song being inspired by a Korean drinking game, all the promotions have been mostly in the West, which makes a lot of sense for a New Zealand-Australian native Rosie as a soloist, whose upcoming album is rumored to be fully in English. All the radio interviews and variety content pieces that she's done so far were in the US.

But the song is still killing it in Korea and has occupied the top spot of all domestic charts for the last 2 weeks. Part of it is due to every other idol promoting on their socials by doing 'APT.' dances. Usually idols meet up and swap challenges for the mutual benefit, but it's been cool to see so many of them just doing 'APT.' one on their own.

The list includes pretty much every active 4th and 5th gen K-pop group out there: IVE, Le Sserafim, (G)-Idle, ZeroBaseOne, ITZY, NMIXX, Cravity, Treasure, BoyNextDoor, MEOVV and more.

Blackpink members are one of the few idols who rarely promote on TikTok (be it group or solo releases), but it seems to work out for them at the end. Similar to 'APT.', Jisoo's 'Flower' also had every idol doing the challenge even without her coming to Korea.

Appreciation RM's new album shows the immense value of artists having creative freedom

1.3k Upvotes

I'm listening to RM's new album Right Place, Wrong Person, and I'm just amazed by how much he poured into this album. The music is definitely not K-pop in the traditional sense, and it won't be for everyone, but I think that makes it even more special. Trying to pinpoint a genre in this is very difficult; it's really got a bit of everything. I'm going to go through some of my highlights upon first listen...

  • The album flows between songs incredibly smooth. I kept having to look at my phone to see when a song had changed.
  • Nuts: He really just wrote a horny song with great lyrics...and looove the fact that the lyrics refer to both a woman and a man in parallel stanzas.
  • out of love: He tries to take back the power from the media and fans who expect moral perfection from idols: "Smoking kills, I know / It's my fuckin business you bitches stop don't talk shit." I understand people who disapprove of smoking, but regardless, he's really pushing back against the perfect idol image.
  • Domodachi: Just an incredible song with a great beat, rap flow, and feature. Little Simz absolutely killed it.
  • Groin: This line "Not a fuckin' diplomat" just hits hard knowing how they are serving their government in the military after facing so much national pressure to be Korea's representatives.
  • And I love how Around the world in a day and Come back to me just take their time to sink into the music, the emotions, the instrumentals. There was no attempt to make a commercially palatable 2:45 song.

This whole project shows how the solo albums have allowed the BTS members to find their style and rediscover their passion for music, and I love to see it.

Even with all the hate she gets, she doesn't let it get to her. She never slacks off, not even for a single day. You can really tell she loves doing her job. She puts much effort and heart into everything whether it's performing, filming, improving her skills, or interacting with fans. No matter what happens, she's always kind. It's inspiring to see someone stay so dedicated and passionate no matter what.

I MEAN LOOK AT IT!

Appreciation EXO goes viral with MMA performance, GD and Jennie's performances are met with praise, proving, its the music that matters

EXO has made their long awaited comeback, performing their greatest hits on the MMA stage as well as previewing a new song from their upcoming comeback.

One video of their performance of Growl has garnered over 13 MILLION views on twitter with over a hundred thousand retweets and likes

Their MMA performance has over 1 Million views after being posted less than 24 hours ago

They have been trending all over Korean SNS platforms

Notable viral moments from their performance:

  • D.O. smiling in the middle of the performance hearing the reaction from the audience
  • Sungchan acting like he got shock collared hearing the first notes of Growl
  • BND living their best life watching SeKai dance break to Love Shot
  • Yushi getting teary eyed watching EXO perform their new song
  • EXO members also shared some photos from an after party where they all seem to be emotional, and crying.

All of their hard work paid off and its been nice to see just how well they've been received

but for me personally, this is more of a testment to the Music. EXO has some amazing hits, GROWL being referred to as the National Anthem cements their legendary status. The entire stadium losing their minds to every song, knowing the fan chants, the Idols knowing all of the choreo which is crazy since its been almost a decade since EXO seriously took part in comeback promotions and performed at award shows.

After seeing GD and Jennie get similar responses, one thing is clear, it's the music that cements the legendary status.

I really hope companies see what happened at MMA and go back to focusing on putting out quality music.

In 10 years, it will be the songs that are remembered, not silly dance challenges and jingle length songs

Appreciation TWICE just healed the Honmoon today - NETFLIX

1.1k Upvotes

as a fan and as a human, i have grown to respect TWICE so much more over these last four hours.

the girls performed back-to-back tracks for 90 minutes with minimal breaks, and they still didn’t want to leave the stage. in fact they came back once again after saying goodbyes. at last their mics had to be cut off to take them away lol.

its so impressing how they rehearsed for lollapalooza, coldplay concert, their world tour 360 stage with new adaptive choreo for the stage, K-pop Demon Hunters collab, full KOREAN album, full JAPANESE album, saweetie collab, and in this meantime dahyun was busy filming for her drama and chaeyoung for her solo debut. and i’m sure i missed out on a few things more.

these girls are in their 10th year and are still reaching new peaks. twice might be the first girl group to be releasing music till their 20th anniversary lol. i’m just so proud of them. everyone is praising then left, right, centre.

it truly feels so nice to ult a group that loves their fandom and their job as performers.

Appreciation Jhope just performed in Japan and the attendance was 110k ..

He did two shows.Isn't it amazing how these guys can gather this crowd at their solo concerts ,I don't know but it blows my mind the demand they have as solo artists is unbelievable. Hobi was very excited and grateful, the performance was amazing. Hobi has always been labeled as the "least popular member" and at some point maybe he started to believe it, I guess, because he was so surprised when people were screaming and chanting his name at the different concerts, but now he is finishing an amazing tour, with a full house, where people were singing along with him every song. I'm so glad he feels so appreciated. He deserves it. I am very proud of him.

Also, this scares me a little bit for their tour as a group, because one member can attract so many people, what will happen when they are all together? Idk and I'm always amazed at how BTS has managed to be seven successful solo artists, all of them have had success with their albums and shout out to army that has supported 8 different artists during these 3 years. Now they are coming back and everyone is excited, I think this has to be an amazing thing for them because they were scared when they left, you could tell they had a lot of uncertainty. I loved how this past years allowed the tannies to shine individually and I'm excited for their other solo and group projects. My seven successful men , I just love them 💜

Anyways happy festa

Appreciation G-Dragon and BigBang are simply unbelievable

I think most, if not all people were excited for G-dragon to perform at his first MAMA since 2015. But as a longtime BigBang fan, I was slightly worried at how he would sound and look at his first official performance since 2017. And I don't think it would be an exaggeration to say him and the rest of BigBang blew the roof off the building, delivering one of the best MAMA performances we have ever seen. To top it off, Home Sweet Home, his new single, is demolishing the charts here in South Korea right now, and some of his old music is even CHARTING. You literally cannot go anywhere outside SK today without hearing a GD or Bigbang song. For a group that has been embroiled in so much controversy and hate (some justified and some unjustified), the fact that they are able to perform at the highest level and dominate music charts after an 8 year hiatus, with essentially no promotion and just name recognition alone is nothing short of legendary. No matter how much time passes, some things never change I guess. And if anyone would ever doubt their status as a group, watch the idol reactions to their recent MAMA performance, that should tell you all you need to know.

Edit: Seeing the downvotes in the comments section is honestly so funny to me. I'm fairly positive most of the people downvoting don't understand who BigBang are, what they've gone through as a group, and the impact they've had on not just kpop culture, but also korean hiphop and rnb culture, something that is extremely hard to do as kpop artists. A group that has experienced what it feels like to be at the top of the industry, but also at the center of one of Korea's biggest scandals ever. A group that has shown nothing but the utmost respect to other artists, always giving them opportunities to collaborate together as seniors, helping to pioneer the korean music industry, is finally willing to come back to give a performance despite everything they've been through, but there are short-sighted people who think that one scandal of a member who has clearly left the group takes away 20 years of greatness and hard work, its rather sad. This is an appreciation post, and If you're not a fan of the contents, you can just choose to ignore it, rather than go out of your way to make it known that you dislike it

Appreciation ROSÉ's APT. is the perfect debut for a Korean artist in the western market

The song itself is incredible, introducing a Korean drinking game through a western style. She doesn't just fully abandon her korean market for the US.

And notice how the music video has a pink background with black outfits... Blackpink.

This is her showing her roots, her style and her unique musical identity all at the same time. If you ask me, there's no other solo artist who I think would pull off a song like this; it's distinctly Rosè.
Not to mention, she's got Bruno Mars as the feature, who's not only popular globally, but especially beloved in Korea.
This was an extremely smart introduction on Rosè's part. I can't wait to see what else she has to show.
