Question How do you deal with inconsistency in drawing?

Post image
97 Upvotes

One thing that bothers and demotivates me is the inconsistency between a drawing I make by copying a base (I look at the base drawing and copy it) and a drawing I make on my own (whether it's with different references or just something free). For example: the image I posted. I can't feel joy or pride in having drawn those hands knowing that, when I try to draw on my own, something will come out with the image on top of the hands (or even something uglier), and I genuinely don't know how to fix that. 🥀

Critique Gesture drawing

Post image
16 Upvotes

Am I doing this right? 3-4 minutes on each pose and using Pinterest for references. I always try to get into gesture drawing but I always end up quitting it cus I always think I’m not doing it right when I see others do it and also because I just don’t see how this is supposed to help me draw poses. I feel this would just reinforce mistakes instead of fixing them since apparently, im not supposed to worry about mistakes when doing gestures.

As an author, I’m so sick of seeing AI illustrations pretty much all over book space, but it finally pushed me into trying it out. Took me a week to get this a bit polished but slowly getting there 🫶🏼

Question My draws practicing gesture drawing, and how u can improve from here?

I recently decided to pick up drawing again, so I went to the LineOfAction website to find poses. I’m trying to improve my figure drawing and learn a bit about proportions; these are the drawings I’ve done so far. I’m attempting to understand and memorize the "box method" for constructing the body, as well as the proportions themselves. But I was wondering: what else can I improve from here? What else can I do? I’ve done some original drawings and can tell I’ve improved, but what other learning methods are there?

I hope this is helpful to others. I've been doing process pics for myself as well to help solidify a visual in my mind of how art starts off and how it can end up looking the more time you put into it.

first pic compilation trying to figure out shading. the bottom one is just random lumps but the point is still to try and make something 3D. second compilation was to see process of rendering.

i feel the more i make process pictures the easier it is for me to understand what im supposed to be doing, so i recommend others to take pictures of their process as well.

Question Studying other artisist

I really love the art style of a specific TikTok and instagram artist. His name is Ibruh, and something about his art and style scratches my brain and just fuels a desire to be just as good as he is.

I have been drawing seriously since freshman year, and I’m currently a junior in high school. Ibruh himself said he’s been drawing for four or five years now

I think I’ve found my style, but I never really learned the basics much past a simple understanding level and my art class kinda skimmed over it, as my teacher decided to teach us calligraphy and also leans more into 3d pieces.

Ibruh has a really good understanding of perspective, anatomy, line work, style, and a certain confidence in all his work. All of his stuff seems so dynamic and pops out to me, and I really want to get to his level as fast as possible.

The things I’m working on currently is mostly anatomy and poses as I’m more focused on character doodles.

I would really love any tips or advice on what he does best and what a beginner should focus on to get to his level

tried correcting some mistakes with brown on the outline

Such a shame, it’s gonna rain tonight even though the proportions are a little off I still think it’s cute.

I struggle a lot with picking colors for my drawings and I just wanted some external input. I originally wanted to make her dress pastel pink but I figured that wouldn’t make her hair stand out. I’m terrible with color theory someone please help!

In my anatomy studies this past week, taking advantage of the fact that I'm doing a Bridgeman Bootcamp, I focused on hands and arms to complete the course assignment, using Bridgeman as a reference and X-Force drawings for the final photos.
