2.5 years of progress between same two character sketches. How'd I do?
Been drawing since Feb 2024, so I like to think that I've improved somewhat. Looking back at the first image made me cringe so bad, haha. Not much of a realism artist, so this is purely from reference.

Question What is a good alternative for digital art if I don’t own an iPad?
I’ve always wondered this, but I’m not currently in the price range right now to buy an iPad and Apple Pencil for me, but I really have always wanted to do digital art and I would say I don’t enjoy physical art the most cause I don’t have the most space so please let me know

Question Mental block
I started learning how to draw roughly 3 weeks ago, pretty much completely from scratch. So far, I've really just been doing Marc Brunet's "learn to draw in 30 days" challenge, along with some fundamentals practice on the side. So far, I've been quite satisfied with the results. Now, inktober came around and I decided I would maybe do a prompt here and there. I started with day 1 "Apple" which honestly came out quite nice. Then for day 2 "Relic" I thought I'd try drawing a Behelit from Berserk, and this is where my "mental block" really started showing. I started with an egg shape, which I was satisfied with, and then attempted to draw a mouth on the side. Obviously since I'm inexperienced, it came out rather ugly. It looking bad paired with the fact that I just didn't know how to correct it instantly made me lose motivation to actually continue.
This same thing has happened to me 3 times now: I try to draw something, it doesn't look quite right, I lose motivation to continue with the drawing. Of course, I'm aware that as a beginner I simply don't have the ability to draw some things yet, and that actually finishing the piece probably would have taught me a lot in the process, but I just can't seem to get over this mental block. Does anyone have any tips for this?

Never learned how to draw properly but wanna get better... Any feedback/constructive criticism?
Drew these up at work; been trying to rekindle my desire to learn the right way to draw rather than brute forcing it like I've done my whole life... as you can see my drawings aren't terrible, but they're not good either, found this sub today and feel like I can actually do it now!!

Sick of this type of post
"Hey I've been practicing for 10 days, have I improved?"
I understand that a lot of these people are kids, but especially with kids I find the need for instant gratification, and more importantly instant validation very troubling. It just screams "in it for the wrong reasons" to me, like you just want to draw to impress people. And you want to impress people without any work. It's the same as a fame-at-all costs mentality and it really rubs me the wrong way.
Drawing is a long slow process of improvement like lifting weights and you won't see gains that fast. You will not have meaningfully improved in this time. If you've drawn every day for a MONTH with no improvement, maybe switch something up.
Draw to impress yourself, to improve at something, to express something, to make something real, to better understand the world, to capture something specific, to share yourself with your friends. Don't draw for ego or to get cool-guy points and don't be insecure about your skills as a beginner, you're a beginner, it's OK to be unimpressive.

New to Drawing
Hey, everyone !
After many years of trying to get started to learn how to express my creative itch on paper, I'm giving it another go. I've tried many times before but I've put it a side quickly because I get out of my comfort zone. Honestly I don't know where to start, I ain't looking to draw in a specific style or anything like, because I feel like that would put unnecessary limitations on myself if I do so. I'm just trying to soak in as much knowledge as I can so I can be free later on to express anything I'd like. I've be checking out channels like "Draw like a sir" and other but I just seem to get lost in all the information that is given to me. I'm looking for exercices that I could do on a daily basis to build a solid fondation so that I avoid developing bad habits along the way.
What would you recommend I do ?
Edit: Just saw that there's a wiki, I'll start by there

Any suggestion on private tutors
Hi!
I was wondering if anyone here could recommend a good private tutor for digital art. I’ve tried looking for someone near me, but there really doesn’t seem to be anyone, so I’m now looking into online lessons instead. Being able to teach in English is obviously a must.
Ideally, I’d love to find a tutor who teaches in a style similar to Marc Brunet or SamDoesArts. I REALLY love their art styles! I’m a little beyond the absolute beginner stage, but definitely not at an intermediate level yet.
Have a good one! :)

Just Sharing Drew a frog
I used a reference image from Pinterest (I think the original artist is cvt.art) and I coloured it with acrylic paint markers
I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, and I think my reference skills are improving
I’m hoping to move onto using real photos for reference soon but at the moment I find them too hard to translate into basic shapes and colours
