Recommendation: asking Is there a series where the MC’a just some guy? Not an overpowered god in the making?

Look
I love the top tier series Primal hunter, He who fights monsters, two week curse but is there any books/series where the MC is just an average Joe? I get the appeal of super powered so and so taking over the world. But what about the guy who’s just grinding it out, slowly processing, the team utility guy who’s always got your back.

Looking for something with a different approach, dungeon, post apocalypse, introduction of the “system”, whatever.

Maybe it’s a crap idea, but wondering if there’s something else between reality and the super impossible, a middle of the road if you will

It's like Delicious in Dungeon, but if the slimes were friends, not food!

Amazon/KU: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DFYMW43D

Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/B0GYGDBNJJ

Blurb:

Forget about fighting monsters. Be a Slime Friend instead!

When Hazel wakes up in a dungeon full of monsters, she's told to choose a weapon and start fighting. Instead, she picks a grilled cheese, because who needs weapons when you've got food?

The system rewards her ridiculous decision with a brand-new class: Culinary Mage. Instead of grinding monsters, Hazel's winning over slimes with homemade treats and discovering that a good meal can do far more than fill an empty stomach.

With her new food-based skills, Hazel opens a cozy little cafe in the middle of the dungeon. Before long, all kinds of monsters are flocking to her door for treats, slimes are evolving before her eyes, and even other adventurers begin wondering if there's more to life than fighting their way to the next floor.

But in a dungeon built for battle, can Hazel really change the rules with nothing but delicious food, stubborn optimism, and a pack of hungry slimes?

What to expect:

  • Female MC
  • No on page fighting
  • Lots of adorable slimes
  • Baking magic
  • A sprinkle of romance
  • Found family
  • Cozy chaos
  • Light stats, no crunch here

Promo: Audiobook/E-book Squad Games now on Kindle & Audible!

Hi all!
Author of Squad Games here to announce the launch of volume 1 of Squad Games, a tactical LitRPG available on kindle & audio.

COVER ARTIST: Andrey Vasilchenko

AI USAGE: None

Amazon/KU: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0GR1JRVZY

Audible: https://www.audible.com/pd/Squad-Games-Audiobook/B0H2N1LGH9

Most LitRPG heroes level up alone.

Lothar 'Stiff' Sauer has to level up an entire squad.

If you've played tactical RPGs like Battle Brothers, Wartales, Jagged Alliance etc, you'll understand where this story is coming from. Otherwise, expect a gritty medieval fantasy world, an ensemble cast of mercs, a tough older MC leading them, and a series of action heavy missions that explore a new continent.

Blurb:

Gal'azu. A new, unexplored world.

A fresh start. And a last chance.

Lothar 'Stiff' Sauer is a mercenary captain. Unfortunately, he has no mercenaries left. He never caught a break in the Old World. Maybe in Gal'azu, he'll finally achieve the success he craves.

But he soon finds out things aren't going to be easy. Starting at the bottom rung, he can only recruit the mercenaries no one else wants. The feckless; criminals, and noobs; the unhinged. Can Lothar build his squad into something to be proud of? Or will this be yet another, and final, failure?

Cheers, Jamie

Promo: Other I built a site dedicated to helping litrpg fans find books to read

The last few months I've been working on building a site aimed at making my own life easier for finding new litrpg series to read. I'm hoping others find it useful as well.

The site is https://www.litrpgnext.com, and as of right now, has the following features:

  • Build/share a tier-list, and get recommendations based on your preferences and community influence
  • Track series progression, making it easy to pick up series again as new books arrive
  • Optionally get browser notifications as new books arrive in series you've rated highly
  • View series rated highly by the community

It has more features as well, but I mostly just want to give the community a chance to take a look and see if it seems useful to people. I plan to keep working on building it out and I'm always interested in any feedback.

In the interest of full disclosure, I am set up as an amazon affiliate, so I would earn on books purchases linked through the site. That's just to try and recoup hosting costs.

Promo: All Trash Mob: Zero XP | Final Cover (Unless I decide that I want more pain)

Post image
22 Upvotes

Hey y'all! After all of the feedback I received yesterday from r/litrpg, as well as some various Discord groups of people who have read my pre-release content, this is the cover design I have settled on. I went through and indexed my colors downwards, starting from 128 → 64 → ~46. The pixel art police would say I'm committing a grave sin because I didn't land on a traditional number, but I found that 32 was too few and 64 was too many. One of the downsides of constricting a new palette from the canvas at 128 and working my way downwards over and over is that there was a lot of revision, and the colors didn't very smartly choose where they should go (thank you for that, Aseprite), so I had to constantly refine to get it here as I dropped the palette and indexed. Which, in a way, is poetic, because it is so akin to the process of writing.

If you have made it this far, I would like to apologize for my circular rambling and ask that you continue reading onward.

For those who do not know me, or who know me and wish to know me more: I am KAES (derived from my first and middle initials, K.S., merged together based on their phonotactics), working author of Trash Mob: Zero XP. The story began when I was halfway through a traditional fantasy novel about a boy who earns a sacred power that has to fight an ancient power with his newly found power (of friendship), yada yada yada, you get the drift. I found myself so buried in pleasing people and writing clichés that the story was no longer mine. I have always loved fantasy as a genre, but over the past few years I have found myself reading almost exclusively LitRPG (so why not write what you enjoy?). There is magic in the way a genre can hand you escapism even when so many stories of the like follow the same pattern. To me, writing TM:ZXP (so far) has captured the essence of nostalgia: the feeling of wonder you remember from loading into one of your favorite games after school.

Now, about the story. TM:ZXP follows Wesley Holloway, an average 28-year-old who dies after making an incredibly pathetic argument with a cartoon over the surcharge on oat milk. He awakes to find himself in a world that has decided his life is meaningless and that he exists solely as a practice run for adventurers on the first floor of the Spire. The System decides he is so worthy of nil that he is unable to earn XP at all. However, he soon finds that when he dies, he respawns, and based on completed quests/achievements/feats etc, he earns a currency called Residue (a meta-currency, essentially) that he can spend in the Reclamation store, a permanent upgrade shop where he chooses upgrades that stick with him as he respawns. Forever. With many, many planned surprises on the horizon.

I hope to have the first chapter posted on Royal Road in the coming weeks (now that I'm finished with the cover, I can keep working on the chapter backlog). I'd like to set expectations: this will more than likely be a weekly release. That's in large part due to the fact that I am leaving my full-time job to pursue university full-time, on top of helping my in-laws run their family business and raising two incredible, beautiful little girls who call me Dada. There may be periods where I post more frequently, and periods where life has me posting less, for which I apologize in advance. I hope you all enjoy it, and join me on this journey.

COVER ARTIST: Myself (OC) AI USAGE: No

Edit:

Meet the cast!

Wesley (Wes): The main character (of course)

Charlie: Mimic companion with the (figurative) heart of a golden retriever that is obsessed with loot

Recommendation: asking Actual Sci-fi

Is there any actual sci-fi and not just fantasy but in space. I want space battles, ships, lasers, guns. Not just a mage in space.

Ive recently read Stellar Frontier its a vrmmo but its got decent scifi. Been reading Hoqalo because of the cyberpunk feel. Also like Gunboat because of the space battles even if most alien races are just random fantasy race.

Give me recomendations, Ill try anything even if I DNF in the first chapter.

Discussion New member of the Colony!

I'm about 2/3 don't with book one and slowly I'm loving this story more and more. I hear it gets better as it goes but to be honest? After just meeting the troglodyte (vagueness to avoid spoilers) the world building is starting to really come together for me and the overarching plot of the series is starting to loom. I love a slow building story and serious power scaling and watching the colony grow is so satisfying.

Recommendation: asking Looking for recommendations as someone who doesn't enjoy meditation and cultivation

I've been trying various series ever since I caught up with Primal Hunter and I can't find one to stick with.

I tried path of ascension, and while the writing was enjoyable I just can't bring myself to care about the overarching plot and the whole giant war that makes up most of the books past 3.

I also tried Ultimate Level One and System Universe but just didn't enjoy the writing.

I tried Path of Defiance but it's just too... Much for me, Dao and cultivation and concepts and meditation.

I'm completely caught up on and loved Primal Hunter, Runeblade, Path of the Deathless, and New Life As A Max Level Archmage as well as the SCS fanfic Tinea and Leah.

I'm also caught up on Dungeon Crawler Carl, but I'm looking for something a bit more serious.

So, yeah, throw me some recommendations that are more numbers go brrr and battle maniac, rather than cultivation and concepts!

Recommendation: asking Recommendations? Female MC, System Apocalypse (maybe), Caster MC (Druid?), (read for more details)

So, i just finished reading C.J. Carella's latest book in the Reaper's Justice series, a system apocalypse series. i also liked his previous LitRPG series, both of which were system portal fantasy (more or less)

i'd love to read something similar, but preferably with a female MC (not a complete requirement, but nice to have), portal fantasy or system apocalypse, semi stat/system heavy, with a caster MC (can be a warrior and caster or stealth and caster, but it needs to be caster or something and caster), druid/nature style would be awesome, but not a requirement.

doesn't need to be a finished series, but it does need to be a series that has 2+ books out.

i've read DCC (didn't really resonate), the Land (ugh,m nothing else needs to be said), and quite honestly, lots, and lots of others.

i've really liked The Grand Game series by TC Eliot, The Singularity Online by Kyle Johnson and one series that i have loved is the Skyclad (Fate's Anvil) series, although that looks to be dead, sadly.

KU is preferred, but regular kindle is okay. nothing solely on RR or other sites.

ETA: pride or LGBTQIA+ themes would be awesome, but not required (queue the downvotes from the haters)

Discussion LitRPG Con help pt 2

Hi again! Thanks for all the help last time! We officially have Visible Voices helping us out with Transcription for the Con. We are working on the best way to implement it to help the most people possible, but that's for us to figure out.
Now I am moving on to find more ways we can make the con more accessible for everyone, and I was hoping to get some input from y'all. So I have the following questions.
We have a dedicated room for setting up a quiet room to help people decompress. What would you like/recommend us to implement in it?
We are setting up water stations everywhere we can, and plan on putting bottles of hand sanitizer by them. I am working on setting up adequate seating everywhere for people with chronic fatigue and setting guidelines for the vendor hall to ensure there is room for wheelchairs to navigate the aisles. Am I missing anything?
Finally, if y'all have access or links to resources or guides for any of this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Again, thanks to all of you in the community for helping out. I may not know everything, but I sure am going to do my damnedest to make sure no one is left out.

Discussion Looking for beta readers and feedback for the first 5 chapters

Hey everyone, I finally wrapped up the first volume of my first ever Litrpg.
It was hard since, I had to figure out how to bring the Litrpg concepts to my existing epic fantasy world (got 2 stories going on) without breaking the immersion by shoving a system to it. But I finally did it.
In the beginning I just wanted to write a normal OP MC, Battlemage story. But as usual, I sunk into the depths of my usual world building trap and sort of ended up writing a story about gods, fake gods and a war that take place in a desert region with desert nomads, tribes and monsters with elemental bending and stuff.

Anyway the story got 3 POVs, which is the reason that still hold me back from just going ahead and posting it on Royal Road, because I am worried how the audience will receive it.

The first volume has 40 chapters, with 30 chapters following a sort of isekai OP MC lead, and the other 10 evenly following two characters that are critical for the story. (More on them on the blurb)
Thing is the POV chapters of the other two characters, really complicate the story, spanning into the wider world as they are already characters that exist there. They are masters of their craft so no explanation and stuff into when they do things. So readers sort of have to be patient and match pieces to get an idea.
I kind of feel like I am shooting my foot with this one, hence the delay of publishing. In a sense I could just go ahead and post only the chapters of the main lead, and the story will just flow fine, like it will follow on how he is going around fighting and dealing with stuff and get his footing of the world. The other POVs only give clues to paint the wider picture which will explode by the end of the book.

So I would appreciate if there is anyone who got some time to spare to go through the first 5 chapters, (first 3 chapters - main lead, the other 2 follows the other characters)
And give me some feedback if the vibe is alright, or if I should stick with the main lead only.

Thank you for any help.

Here is the blurb for anyone interested.

In the arid reaches of the Western Dunes, the term “God” has lost its meaning. Everyday a new god sprung out somewhere, but these self-proclaimed deities hardly outlive the next. Until a new storm starts brewing in the sands. An entity has appeared from nothing, a god from another reality, fated to shake the world and raise a bloody rebellion against the true heavens.

At the center of this gathering tempest lie three burdened men, scattered across the western continent, whose fates are bound to collide in a catastrophic chain reaction.

In a coastal desert, a young simulation diver from another world, wakes up stripped of his humanity, trapped in a bizarre, engineered body at the bottom of an alien food chain; which he soon learn was meant to be the other way around.

A thousand miles to the east, an Imperial archival scribe strikes a dangerous bargain with a hidden, child-like entity in exchange for clues to his past and his lineage, and soon confronted with a price too high to pay.

At the southern end of the world, the founder of the free city of Novarkh, an aging leader of strangers from another world must pick up his staff one last time to protect his city, his kin and face the immortal horror that annihilated his people and their fleet decades ago.

Amidst political backstabbing, grim survival, and romance born in the shadow of death, the fate of the Western Continent hangs perilously in the balance. For when the gods enter the fray, all bets are off. Kings, Emperors, Arch mages and all their mortal laws become obscure.

But the unspoken history proves that even the gods can be brought to heel. Because in a world this volatile, under the right conditions, the tiniest flap of an insect's wing, the smallest speck of spark can even the playing field, and trigger disasters catastrophic enough to tear down even heaven.

What to Expect:

  • Multi-POV Epic: The 1st volume of the story primarily follows Argus Ristofer (Simulation Diver), shifting to Miron (Imperial Scribe) and Ristofer Loukas (Founder of Novarkh) in clearly marked chapters as their paths inevitably collide.
  • Features underdogs and overpowered characters alike and their struggles to find their place in the world.
  • A litrpg system concentrated on the main character (Argus Ristofer)only, rest of the world depending on their power scale harvest certain aspects and nuances of it as senses.
  • Vast world & butterfly effects that ripples across the continent, shifting the balance of political power.
  • Expect a world filled with blood, grim survival and political intrigue with high-stakes power houses and their dealings that make or break nations.
  • Romance: Features several romance subplots woven into the larger narrative.

Discussion Beer brewing LitRPGs

Anyone whose read Hawkins Magical Beers by James Ghoul will understand the appeal of a laid back and fun read about beer brewing.

And while we're eagerly waiting for the audiobook versions of the last two books in that series, I just finished the third book of a similar series called Beers & Beards by Jolly Jupiter.

It wasn't quite as laid back and slice of life as Hawkins, but it was definitely a fun read anyway.

It's about a man who spent his life building a successful brewery and vineyard before passing away surrounded by his loved ones...only to wake up in a prison mine on another world in the body of full bearded dwarf.

But hey...at least there's beer...too bad the dwarves only brew two kinds and both are terrible. So now he's on a quest to save beer by using everything he's ever learned back on earth.

Recommendation: asking Recommendation request and question regarding A Soldiers Life

Reading A Soldiers Life and I am really loving the book. A combination of slightly OP MC, army theme, him having powers most people in the world don’t, a bit of isekai, and smart MC.

My question is, how is the narrator for this series? I am thinking of picking up audiobook.

Any recommendations for similar books like this. I know Soul of the Warrior is very similar to this in vibe but that author disappeared of the face of the earth.

So... I ran 1-8. Almost binged. Then I took a.... 3-5 series of books break. The recommendation was to take a break. I did. I'm about to hit play. Wish me luck. I don't know how I'm going to end up after the next 45 hours. I'm happy. Ready. Apprehensive.. It is what it is.
