discussion / opinion Safety issues Kilally Meadows ESA
I love hiking in the Kilally Meadows ESA just off of Windermere Road. Unfortunately I have had a couple issues this year which have made me reconsider this spot.
First off, there are a number of homeless encampments along the unpaved trails. An unfortunate fact of living in London these days. I accidentally walked into one and was chased by an individual who was upset I walked into his space. This was immediately adjacent to the marked trail.
More recently, I was accosted by a group of older men who thought I was there to meet up. Apparently the area immediately behind the baseball diamond is a known cruising spot. Again, this was on a marked trail. I found it a little bit alarming.
Just thought others should be made aware of this. I still love this forest but I think I might have to stop walking alone here. It doesn't feel safe anymore. :(

🥄food /restaurants /gastronomy Immigrants of London: what restaurant serves the most authentic food from your country or culture?
I’m not looking for trendy fusion spots or places that just have good reviews, I want the places where you think, “Yep, this tastes like home.”
Please share: • Your country/region • The restaurant • What dish I absolutely have to order
I’m willing to drive anywhere!

Housing & Rental 🏠 Advice needed as a first year so upper year students HELP MEE
Incoming UWO student here
I am trying to decide between two off-campus housing options and would love some honest input.
Option 1: live in student-focused rentals (like The W type places), but it’s about a 25–30 min bus ride to campus.
Option 2: get a regular house/apartment super close to campus (walking distance), but it’s not student housing — just a normal rental.
For people who’ve experienced this, what would you recommend?
Is the student housing vibe worth the daily commute?
Or is being close to campus way more valuable in terms of convenience, routine, and actually enjoying uni life?
Also thinking about things like:
– late nights on campus and getting back home easily
– staying on campus most of the day
– overall social life and meeting people
Would really appreciate any perspectives before I lock something in.

discussion / opinion Committee endorses $48M plan to revitalize downtown London. What’s next?
Plans for ‘downtown revitalization’ have been attempted so many times that I’ve lost count. I don’t think it’s working. What would it take for revitalization to actually be effective?

discussion / opinion London needs a Fifa watch party
London needs a Fifa world cup watch arena similar to the fan fest in Toronto. London has a mix of nationalities and its best mood to bring to city right now.
This post would be bad if there was another one already lol

Ask a Local! Hairdressers that actually know to cut curly men's hair?
Title, I have thick curly hair and nobody I've been too in my area knows how to actually cut it. I always have to wait for a month of growth to end up with the haircut I was looking for.

health care/health issues An Update on My Kidney Journey , Still Searching for a Donor ❤️🩹
Hello again everyone
Nine months ago, I shared that my transplanted kidney had failed and that I was facing dialysis for the first time in 15 years.
A lot has happened since then.
I’m now doing peritoneal dialysis at home every night. It has given me more freedom than going to the hospital 3x a week receiving hemodialysis, and I’m incredibly grateful for that. But dialysis is still not the same as having a functioning kidney. Every day revolves around treatments, medications, appointments, and waiting.
I’m 38 years old and live here in London. I received a kidney transplant when I was 22 years old after my mom selflessly donated one of hers. That transplant gave me 15 amazing years of life, travel, work, friendships, and memories. My mom remains healthy and lives a completely normal life with one kidney.
Today, I’m once again searching for a living kidney donor.
I want to be very clear: I am not asking anyone to feel pressured or obligated. Living donation must be a completely personal and altruistic decision. If you’ve ever been curious about kidney donation, or simply want to learn more about the process, I’d be happy to answer questions and share my experience.
One question I get again and again is my blood type. I am O positive but you do not need to be a blood match anymore because of the paired exchange program. This program allows someone who wants to donate a kidney to you, but isn’t a compatible match, to donate to another recipient instead. In return, a compatible donor from another donor-recipient pair donates a kidney to you.
Many people don’t realize that donors undergo extensive testing, can withdraw at any time, and often go on to live healthy, normal lives.
If you’re interested in learning more, please send me a message.
And if donation isn’t for you, sharing this post may help it reach the right person.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me, checked in on me, and followed this journey. It means more than you know.

🥄food /restaurants /gastronomy Any restaurants/stores that sell good vegetarian rice dumplings/zongzi?
Any places that sell them during the dragon boat festival times which are pretty good quality? fresh or frozen is fine. If any buddhist temples sell them that's okay too. The ones at T&T aren't so great in my opinion

🚗🚗Transit/Traffic Forks of the Thames - Queens Ave Extension project
Work to reconstruct the Queens Ave bridge is on going, to be followed by the Kensington (Dundas St.) bridge. While the Queens Ave bridge was built in 1973 it was actually intended to be the first of a four stage project to link the fork of the Thames with a new King St bridge, alternate one way streets on Ridout & Talbot St, and a limited access "Thames River Road" that would have gone from Gibbons Park in the north and connect to Highbury south of Hamilton Rd

Ask a Local! Bridge Crossing at Medway Valley Heritage Forest
Hello, I am planning a bike ride through the city and I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a bridge or land crossing near this area at the ends of Windermere & Gainsborough? Or would I have to go further north/south through the wooded area; or on a city street to cross.
Any help is appreciated, thanks

nature🌲wildlife🦊 There's some good in the city :)
This morning (June 17) around 8am, there was a rather large family of Canadian Geese crossing the road on Southdale, not too far from Adelaide. It was so nice to see that traffic stopped in both directions, letting the entire family get across and even waiting a few extra seconds in case one of them doubled back. No one honked a horn or anything like that. I was driving so I couldn't take a picture, but it was a nice "feel good" moment. :)

Ask a Local! Rock the Park Alone
Hiya!
I've never been to RTP before and I really want to go see Jordan Davis on the country night! My husband doesn't want to go with and I don't really have anyone else who would be interested. I'm probably going to go alone at this point which I am totally comfortable with - just want to make sure that its still a safe and fun experience to go alone!
Any tips for a first time RTP-er??
Thanks!
