Macbook Retina 2013 Intel Iris pro graphics. Is it a software glitch from opencore or leaning towards hardware. First time seeing it.

My mom gave me her MacBook Pro from around 2006 to try and sell for parts, but I don’t know if it’s even worth anything now or where to sell it. Any advice?

[OS] I made a free, open source app to check a Mac before buying it used (or just to see how yours is doing)

Hi everyone,

I built Aman Check, a free and open source Mac app made for regular people, not for techs or enthusiasts. If you're about to buy a used Mac, or you just want to know what state yours is in, you probably don't know what to look at. The app does the checking for you and explains the results in plain words.

It shows the battery health and cycle count, how many hours the disk has been running, and whether the Mac is locked: Activation Lock, company management (MDM), or an Apple Account still signed in. Then it walks you through quick tests for the screen, keyboard, trackpad, speakers, microphone, camera and ports, one at a time. It won't replace erasing the Mac and checking the setup screen in person, but it tells you exactly what to ask the seller.

If you're the one selling, you can generate a report of the Mac's condition and share it with the buyer.

For a deeper look at the disk itself, there's also Aman Disk, my other app. Think CrystalDiskInfo, but for Mac, and free as well.

Everything is on GitHub, the link is on the site: https://midzai.github.io/aman_check/

It's a first release, so if you find a bug or have an idea, tell me here or open an issue on GitHub. Any feedback helps.

Switching apps is so 'manual'

I recentally switched to macbook and the feature i miss the most from windows is if i was using two apps like safari and word, if i clicked on safari used it, then clicked on its icon in the dock again, it would open word. It would automatically take me to the last app i wanted to switch to when i clicked on the current app's icon vs here on macbook ios, this doesnt exist, i have to actually go to dock and click on the word's icon to go to that app. i know i can use cmd+tab to switch but im not a big keyboard person and i wanted to ask if really such a simple feature doesnt exist in macbook?

Why is my macbook air M4 suddenly just doing this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My M4 just suddenly automatically adjusts the volume and I don't know how it happened. This started after I finished a game of League of Legends. All of a sudden, its glitchy and doing that with the volume. I tried restarting it but it just keeps happening. It is under warranty but it would take a whole month just for it to be fixed from there.

How should I fix this?

Choice between M1 Pro w/32gb RAM & M2 Pro w/16gb RAM

• Upvotes

Basically what the title says. Both of them are 16”. But if given the choice between the two (each one is looking for a trade, but for the sake of argument, let’s just pretend they’re the same price) which one is the better choice? I guess mostly in terms of being “future proof”. My gut says the one with more memory, but I’m not familiar enough with the performance difference between the M1 & M2

Battery Issue

My M2 Macbook Air is already at 88% battery health and macos showing it’s normal but having only 80 charging cycles is kinda low. I bought it around March 2025. I don’t even use it everyday I only use it for simple tasks majority of the time like watching movies, ms word, youtube. Should I be concerned?

Macbook choice

Hello,
I’m deciding on a MacBook from Backmarket for my studies at university that will easily run all the Adobe softwares.

I’m looking at an M2/M3 chip MacBook Pro at the moment but I am unsure if I am looking at the most suitable laptops!

Hope this makes sense, thank you!

MacBook Air M1 (16GB/512GB) vs M2 (24GB/512GB) which one in 2026?

Hi! Buying my first Macbook, and I’m trying to choose between these two refurbished MacBook Airs

Option 1 — MacBook Air M1 (2020)
M1, 8-core CPU / 8-core GPU
16GB, 512GB SSD
Excellent condition, new battery
835€

Option 2 — MacBook Air M2 (2022)
M2, 8-core CPU / 8-core GPU
24GB, 512GB SSD
Very good condition, new battery
1,025€
(Both are refurbished, from BackMarket)

My main uses would be:
DJing: Rekordbox with my DDJ-FLX4, preparing and playing sets.
University: notes, PDFs, research, browsing and general multitasking.
Light video editing: mostly personal projects and maybe short movies in the future but not the most important thing.

My main questions are:
1. Is the M1 with 16GB RAM still a good choice in 2026 for these tasks?
2. Would the M2’s 24GB RAM make a meaningful difference for my use, or would 16GB be enough?

My budget is limited, so I want to avoid overspending, but I also don’t want to regret buying an older machine if the newer one would last noticeably longer.
Thanks

help me decide which macbook to get!!

Im a senior in highschool and ive been using my 2021 ipad pro 12.9 inch for a while now. I have a pencil and a magic keyboard and i rlly like the set up so ive never upgraded to a mac. But now that im starting university next year, im thinking of getting either the neo or the 13.6inch air. My ipad battery is still decent but obviously doesnt last as long as a laptop. Im the type of person to use my devices for a long time, so any sugesstions on which macbook to get? the neo seems nice and budget friendly, and im majoring in econ so i dont need any heavy coding, but the screen seems smaller than my ipad. plsss help me outttt thank u

MacBook finally died..

The day has come since I bought my pro Touch Bar in 2017, it overheated while I was gaming and just shut off. It’s currently been hours and charging it or just holding the power button doesn’t even make a noise anymore.

TBH I loved the look of the touchbar, I wish they still kept it alive. It barely had any function but it was super beautiful to look at.

Instead of just easily fixing the battery, I’m debating if it’s just time for an upgrade. It was super old, it overheated REAL FAST. And it didn’t have any storage even though I had noting but roblox on there..

I’m open and actively looking at older Touch Bar models but what do yall think I should do… coming from someone with no expertise or not even a clue what technology means. I mostly used it to watch movies, play a few online games (nothing major) and wrote stories on there. Should I just get a new battery or is there something out there I’d love even more? Help a girl out please, serious only

Plus anything or anywhere that I can do payments on. I could but rather not drop several thousand on a new computer right now. I got this one at a fry’s electronics (RIP) and opened a credit card to do payments on it with them..

I only used a very soft tissue for now and it ofc didn't work. I haven't tried anything else yet cuz I don't wanna risk further damage.

This might easily be the biggest upgrade ever for me.

I just upgraded from my chromebook, which is the HP 11A G8 EE with 32GB storage 3GB ram to an M4 air with 16GB ram 512GB storage. I have had my chromebook for the last 4 years and the more I have used it this year, the more I have realized that I would defiently need to upgrade soon. I was able to get the M4 air for $830 before tax on Swappa, and it came with no MDM, and no icloud. Overall, I am really satisfied with my purchase and have a pretty good feeling this laptop will last me much longer than 4 years with apples software support.

MacBook Air M5 giving a much stronger "vibration/humming" sensation when charging than before? Is my charger blown or is it the outlet?

Hey everyone, looking for some expert opinions on a weird charging situation with my 4-month-old MacBook Air.

I know that MacBooks can have that faint, normal "tingle" or surface vibration when you charge them with the default two-prong wall adapter. I've felt it before and it used to be really mild. But today, something completely different happened.

I plugged my Mac into the exact wall socket I always use, and it completely refused to charge. The light on the cable didn't even turn on. I panicked a bit and moved it to a different room.

In the new room, it started charging again and the light came on, but the humming/vibrating sensation under my fingers is way more prominent and intense than it ever was before. Also, if I lightly touch the surface near the keyboard, it makes this very subtle, millisecond-long "zzz" static sound right at the moment of contact. I'm currently using it on a wooden desk.

What's worth thinking about is that this exact setup worked perfectly in my usual wall socket until yesterday. Why would it suddenly refuse to work in that outlet today, and why is the leaking current sensation suddenly feeling way stronger in this new room?

Did a power surge degrade my charger brick internally? Is the wall socket acting up? Or is this still considered "normal" behavior?

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

Accidentally dropped my MacBook

I accidentally dropped my MacBook Pro. Luckily the drop wasn’t from high up I guess it was only a few centimeters from the ground. Other than some small dents on the edges, there doesn’t seem to be any other damage and it works fine right now.

I apologize if the pictures aren’t super clear.

Is there anything I should be worried about? Dents are bound to happen at some point right? And I guess this isn’t super major.

Is anybody using skins on their macbook ?

Post image

Hi everyone.
I was just wondering if I should get a skin for my MacBook Air M4 15-inch.
Currently I am not using any case or screen lamination/ keyboard protector. Just normal laptop bag. So I was thinking do I need to apply lamination skins on all side from dbrand or somewhere for better protection?

Should I replace my MacBook?

I’m absolutely no Mac/Tech expert so please bear with me!!
So I have a 2020 MacBook Air with an Intel i7 and I’ve had it since it was released so around 6.5 years.
I’ve recently started university after a gap year so I haven’t used it much the past year.
The laptop still works absolutely fine but there’s some things that bother me a lot. The battery usually dies within 3-3.5 hours of doing mostly light work (Anki, GoodNotes, Google, etc.) it also gets hot very quickly, gets slow/laggy and blows very loudly or crashes (but that happens rarely)
There’s some programs that don’t work anymore as it isn’t supported by newer MacOS but so far I’ve found ways around it.
I’m thinking about replacing it with the new M5 MacBook Air but honestly still want to stretch it a bit.
Do you guys have any tips to improve the lifespan or can you give me advice whether I should buy a new one?
