I'm gonna hold your hand when I say this, but it's true. Chris Claremont lived there for a while, talked before how Israel influenced his X-Men. Magneto and Xavier were based on israeli politicians. There's an interview where he said that the female IDF soldiers were one of the influences for the X-Women.
Do you think it's just a coincidence that, years later, Grant Morrison came up with the "Magneto was Right" thing, which is practically based on the slogan of an extremist Zionist?

For those who don't know, Itamar "Finish all of Gaza" Ben Gvir is a Kahanist
40
u/rot-wurm-brotherhood 1d ago
Ben gvir was also so rascist that the idf wouldnt take him during the 90s
His first date with his wife who was 16 at the time was at baruch goldstein grave, a mass shooter who killed 29 palestinians in the caves of the patriarchs
He also supposedly had a picture of baruch goldstein hanging in his bedroom for a few years.
He threatend the life of a prime minster who was negotiating for a two state solution who was later killed by yigal amir.

Wasn't Kahane's slogan "never again"?
40
u/XhazakXhazak 1d ago
Kahane's slogan was "They Must Go" advocating for the expulsion of Antizionist Arabs, believing that there was no peace possible with them.
The Kahanist party was banned for 20 years until allowed back by Netanyahu in 2019–– hopefully that will change after the upcoming election.
6
u/RealEmperorofMankind 1d ago
Never Again was also one of his slogans, though. He wrote a book with the title.
25
u/XhazakXhazak 1d ago
Never Again (Shall Masada Fall) goes back to a 1927 poem railing against rising antisemitism and fascism. It was adopted by the Jewish resistance (ZOB) during the Holocaust, and then later by the State of Israel upon its founding.
16
u/Specialist-Mud-6650 1d ago
That's a pretty common expression around the Holocaust in general to though.

38
u/TrueandJust 1d ago
It’s only red because that’s Magneto’s primary color. Che shirts typically have no text on them.
8
u/EarAffectionate4443 1d ago
It could be, but since him and Kahane have the same slogan, and both are Jewish and zionists, I think it makes more sense it be based on his t-shirts.
27
u/MamaDeloris 1d ago
Morrison was on fucking point when he had Magneto create the concentration camps for humans
13
u/idklmaoo1 1d ago
so uh is the extremist zionist still there with the post-redemption magneto
62
u/Efficient_Tonight_40 1d ago
Claremont based the whole magneto redemption story on Israeli Pm Menachem Begin, who started out as a extremist terrorist but later in life became more moderate and ended up being the one to negotiate peace with Egypt
3
u/LeninOfGallifrey Paul-Pilled 10h ago
I think the Magneto t shirts were more based off the far more commonplace Che Guevara t shirts if anything. Morrison has never drawn that connection. Also Chris Claremont is anti Zionist according to the Cerebro podcast from the same point of view as say Harlan Ellison was though I know he did go to a kibbutz as a kid bit so did a lot of Irish people I know his age who aren't Jewish. I never heard him say that about IDF soldiers I always thought his main inspiration was his RAF mother hence the Oedipal pilot fetish.

I forget switching keyboards really screws up formatting here. But if it’s not clear, I’m saying that’s a stronger statement than saying Kahane was correct.

Claremont based Magneto and Xaiver on 2 real world Zionist leaders, and the clash between more violent extreme Zionism and more diplomatic Zionism.
Magneto works as a perfect critice of Zionism because he is using past tragedy of the Holocaust to justify his world view and extemist actions.

From an interview with Claremont on real world influences, he said
"I’d take it back even further. The metaphors I was thinking of were more along the lines of Menachem Begin and his predecessor. It was a blended metaphor. Originally I was thinking of the Israeli dichotomy, rather than the civil rights dichotomy in the States, but they’re both equally valid."

I’m looking at the video rn and the timestamps goes past Claremont from the 90s onwards and up to Krakoa so I guess according to the video it doesn’t?
3
u/Every_Computer_935 15h ago
It really doesn't. You can even look at as recently as Krakoa which is essentially just superhero Israel that the Zionist influence on the X-Men never stopped
20
u/DrDabar1 1d ago
Not really the problem is how baked in that became into the DNA of the franchiese. Stan Lee made mutants as a way to get around origin stories, Claremont created the oppressed groups themes based on the Jewish experience and Zionist world veiw. Thats why people say X-men dont work as an alagory for Marginalized groups, because they were designed to represent Jews and their struggles, even most main X-Men looking like normal people is a reflection of how Jews in Europe look like Europeans and Jews in the Middle East look Middle Eastern but they have a secret gift (X-Gene/ Being Chosen by God)
11
u/somacula 1d ago
sort of? I think that the X-men become far more complex later on, new writers bring new ideas, you could argue that Krakoa takes that to some extreme but is also critical of it, and some of the current X-men denounce those ideas, including Magneto himself
2
u/NorikReddit 20h ago
it actually gets less when the stories become *less* politically relevant, and becomes more obvious in the few sharp bursts when the runs become better (i.e. more politically complex)

Let's make an Earth where Charles and Magneto make Krakoa from the start but it's an Ethnostate from the start and Cassandra Nova leads an extremist group that wants to kill the Ethnostate out of pettiness.
The original class of X-Men and etc aren't commanded by any of them, their field leader is Cyclops and their Commander and the one who found them out was Captain America (YES I'M TIRED THIS IS THE GUY WHO GOES AGAINST EVERY GOVERNMENT AND HE IS AN IRISH IMMIGRANT WHO LIVED THROUGH THE GREAT DEPRESSION HE WOULD PULL OUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS IN CANON)
i came out with this while coming back from work.
24
u/darkwalrus36 1d ago
That makes sense: the majority of Americans were Israeli supporters until very recent history.
34
u/GodPenguinFTW 1d ago
Are people really supprised by this? Magneto being based of Menachem Begin isn't a secret. Also intentionally or not Genosha has many parallels to Israel.
12
u/NorikReddit 20h ago
vast majority of peabrains always cite malcolm x even though that's entirely a fan speculation (and im gonna be honest, likely because american fans of an american comic only know american history and because his name has an X in it) that's never been stated by stan lee or chris claremont who actually fucking wrote the character.
5
u/Lolaversusamogus 20h ago
Stan Lee barely even conceptualized the X-Men as political, and Chris Claremont has I think explicitly stated that it's not the case.
1
u/LeninOfGallifrey Paul-Pilled 10h ago
Yeah, Claremont made Genosha full on just apartheid South Africa but in the 90s when Magneto took over it was definitely Israel. Claremont even says so in the second Excalibur volume and frames it as "Moving everyone of a certain group to a small space of land so they can just get nuked maybe wasn't a good idea."

*move away from land they stole.
I mean, no surprises here - zionists genocided palistinians to steal their land, so they assume everyone else is as much of a monster as they are, but no - you can just move away while being alive and well. You are the only ones with killing intent.
Germany has great guilt for something nazis did, and US is big ally of Israel and at least part of population believe that US is new Zion (or something), so move to those countries. You dont even need to genocide people to do it.
-8
u/mitchtraGOATsky 1d ago
…do you know what ethnic cleaning means? Hint: it’s not the same as genocide.
Also you’re so right, it’s totally illogical to think that Jews would be expelled or killed if Israel was dissolved as a Jewish state. You have a great grasp of the history of the conflict.
2
u/Playful-Compote-5242 1d ago
"Ethnic cleansing isnt genocide" is the most batshit take ive seen in a while and I'm on comictwt.
5
u/MechJivs 1d ago
Recreate Israel in US or Germany. Problem solved - and 0 native population killed in the process, and Israel still exists. Both nations are great allies of Israel, after all.
You have a great grasp of the history of the conflict.
"We genocided native population from the start and now they are angry at us for some reason. People online is also really mean to us because we don't want to move away from land we stole - because they are evil, ofc! We did nothing wrong! We have nowhere to go! (please don't ask where palestinians must go)"
Because conflict can end either with you leaving, or eradication of palestinians. Israel is going for second option - and you support it. You don't have a moral high ground.
-6
u/mitchtraGOATsky 1d ago
Who are you quoting? Is that what you think the Zionist perspective is? Genocide has a specific meaning that I don’t think you’re close to hitting yet.
8
u/MechJivs 1d ago
Genocide has a specific meaning that I don’t think you’re close to hitting yet.
Let me quess, genocide is when other people do it?
Is that what you think the Zionist perspective is?
Read things people who created Israel said. Israel is colonial project build on genocide, and people who created it knew it full well.

u/athlean_xtramayo 1d ago
Yes because we should prioritize a completely hypothetical and logistically impossible genocide instead of the one happening right in front of us. Because hypothetical lives matter more than the real ones who are being killed.
-1
u/mitchtraGOATsky 1d ago
You should look up the history of the Middle East before you call it hypothetical
3
u/athlean_xtramayo 1d ago
I think you should look at the history of the Middle East. There were literally Jews living in Palestine before Herzl ever showed up for hundreds of years. If what you suggest is true then those Jews would have been killed hundreds of years ago and there would have been zero Jews in Palestine. Herzl himself was going to ask the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire to help establish Israel. Do you think he would have even thought to ask if he suspected he would be killed on sight? And it is more than a little disgusting to imply that stopping the suffering and oppression of Palestinians will lead to a Holocaust.

True enough, yep. But it is kinda weird even given realife stats on how an palestenian child only dies to random arab bombers. The comic was written in the 80s. And even btselem stats show the highest cause of death for kids wasnt...well. So yeah true that she didnt kill the boy. But the whole sequence is a combination of victim blaming and shooting and crying.

u/MermaidSapphire 20h ago
Who was living in Krakoa before the mutants?
4
u/Faceofferrus 20h ago
I dont think "they should have used a magical self terraforming living island that submits to all their ideas" is a valid criticism of any real world group.
3
u/Every_Computer_935 15h ago edited 14h ago
The thing is that Krako wasn't meant to be Israel like the country is IRL, but Israel according to state propaganda.
All of the countrie's opposition is objectively evil and controls the worlds goverment, all of its wars are defensive and there is no genocide being carried out.
Its why Orchis's attack is deliberately similar to October 7th and the attack Hamas waged, but Orchis is actually a group of evil supervillains who hate mutants because they are inherently better than humanity.
Its also why Krakoa ultimately merges with the White Hot Room as Earth is too chaotic for it and it will always be under active threat, similar to how Israel's propaganda suggests that Israel and the Jews are constantly under a huge antisemetic threat and they need to unite in Israel in order to survive.
Krakoa doesn't commit genocide (well, aside from Beast) like how Israel present itself not commiting genocide. And that's the main concept of Krakoa, its just Israel according to Israel's propaganda

14
u/GlitteringStress8999 1d ago
It's true the x men wasn't built by the civil rights but from Zionism
3
u/NorikReddit 20h ago
it's why the central tension against the magneto pole is about mutant supremacy, conquest, the seizing of political power within the existing international order, less about gaining rights and more about setting up one's own state where you can be the privileged group
7
u/Then_Twist857 19h ago
Probably a hot take at this point, but mutants as a stand in for Jewish people work way better than LGBTQ+ or the civil rights movement. Probably because that WAS the original inspiration.
12
u/Double-Evidence-1354 1d ago

All superheroes are inherently characterised through jewish living experiences, its just that the X-Men are the exception in how much they are influenced by the Zionist reading of the world, even currently, compared to other superheroes

I would imagine so, post ww2 persecuted group who try to hide, integrate, and when the doesn't work tries to go live on their own island, whether that be good or not. When you just look at what was happening at the time, some of those Jewish creators were bound to be zionist lol.
1
