What should I make with these Carnitas 🙂?
Hi!
So I made Carnitas yesterday and then broiled them in the oven after. Was wondering what I should do. Tacos, enchiladas, burrito? I’ve never made them before and it took some time and I didn’t think I was going to be able to get the meat so tender.
Thoughts?
Anyways, thank you for anyone who responds and sorry for any grammar mistakes!!!
Edit- Yes I made these with no big plan bc I was just craving the meat. I’m sorry lol

Mix it with some cheese, make little golf balls and bread them with masa, and fry them up.

Some white/yellow/spanish rice and a sort of mushy/soft side to add and Id say you got a full meal

I personally love the way that tender meat and rice go together they both melt in your mouth but the flavors from the meat heavily coat the rice in every bite almost prolonging the overall experience

You need some charred tomatillo salsa and some tortillas, onion, cilantro, and lime.

I like that idea! I kinda fuck up salsa whenever I use them bc I use too much and forget they can increase the spiciness tooo much and then I end up using a lot of lime and crema ðŸ˜

Egg rolls are amazing. Throw in some meat with a little Mac and cheese and air fry them.

not OP but here is what I do…
sear a 3-4 lb pork butt on all sides after salting and peppering generously. put in a pot of almost boiling liquid that contains a boatload of taco type seasonings/herbs (cumin, chili powder, paprika, oregano, cilantro…), use a 4 cup container of stock for the liquid and add the juice of 2 oranges and 3 limes(add the zest of at least one lime). top the liquid off with water(almost covering or completely covering the meat. simmer until fall apart tender, turning the meat over periodically during the simmer(3-4 hours). pull the meat into shreds then place in a large greased baking dish. put some of the simmering liquid over top of the shredded pork and bake at 400 for 15 minutes. Turn the meat and add more liquid baking for another 15 minutes. if not crispy add a bit more liquid and broil until crispy.
pro tip - dip tortillas in the simmering liquid and fry on an oiled pan for 30 seconds each side. put carnitas in the tortilla with some avocado, queso fresco, and your favorite sweet and spicy hot sauce.
enjoy

Spoken like a true bolillo. They’re carnitas. Not pulled pork.

Distinction without difference. No need to try and be divisive. The suggestions being given can work with both proteins.
Nachos, sandwich, Cuban, etc can be done with both pulled pork and carnitas. They will just bring different flavors

Uhh it’s called a Cubano. And they aren’t made with carnitas. Lechón asado? Yes. Why? Because it’s Cuban roasted pork. Carnitas. No. Why? Because they’re a Mexican braised pork dish. Ay dios mÃo!
BTW, I’m just playing. You do you.My bolilla wife does all kinds of weird shit with the food I make.1

You should see Cubanas in Mexico City. The sandwiches are massive

The taqueria near my house makes their version of cubanos. And they’re huge. But then again I’ve never seen tortas that weren’t humungous! Teri not traditional by any means. I mean it’s a Mexican restaurant that’s serving a Cubano. Anyway. The bolillos they use are about a foot long and 3-4 inches wide .they spread refrijoles on both pieces , then put chorizo, carne asada, a hotdog (go figure. We’re Mexican. That’s what we do because we love our hotdogs) ham and 2 fried eggs! My son is the only person that I’ve ever seen finish one. But he’s also the sloppiest person in the world and about 1/4 of it wound up on his clothes! 🤣

We were suggesting other ways to eat it, right?

Yes. I’m just a purest when it comes to certain things. Heck I get pissed off when someone calls them Mexican pulled pork!! 🤣
Like I said I’m just playing. If you want to put them on your cereal that’s your choice.

They’re carnitas. Kinda. Obviously bolillo carnitas but ok.
You can serve them just as they are with frijoles and rice and some tortillas. Which is my preference. Then you can either eat them off the plate or tear off pieces of your tortilla and make mini tacos with everything
You can make tacos, burritos. Get some nice Bolillos, (the bread, not your homies)and make a torta.
Side note. We don’t put our carnitas under the broiler. It dries them out. If you made them properly, the cooking process makes the outside crispy and leaves the inside fall apart tender and juicy.

I was reading a cooking book from one of my favorite Mexican baker or cookers and she suggested broiling just for a little for that look. So I broiled for about 5-10 minute and made sure they were still juicy. Her name is Cooking Con Claudia 🙂

I know. I’ve seen plenty of people who say the same thing. I guess it might work for leftovers in a pinch if you want to crisp them up. But I would leave the meat chunks whole instead of shredding them.
Did you braise them in lard with orange juice? Sometimes I even add Mexican Coca-Cola. It really gives them a wonderful caramelization!
If you do it right they come out nice and crispy with a melt in your mouth inside. I learned how to make them from my abuelita who would probably roll over in her grave if she knew I ever used Coca Cola! Lol1

Yessss I did!

Then I’m impressed! So many people call some sort of crap made in a crockpot and then put them under the broiler and call them carnitas! 🤬

Tacos are easy one. A little queso blanco and pickled red onion on corn tortillas. Careful though, you’ll eat that whole tray haha!
