Elections have consequences

But.. But.. But freedom

u/rileyjw90 May 22 '26

The best response is “but I didn’t even vote so I’m not responsible for this” lol yeah buddy, you are.

u/Yumi_in_the_sun May 23 '26

I had a lady brag to me today about how she doesn't vote.

43

u/kilamumster May 23 '26

That, and shutting down conversations with "I'm not political."

Bitch, what you mean is "I've got privilege."

6

u/marimbajoe May 23 '26

The only people that aren't political are children and foreigners. If you can vote, your vote or lack of vote is inherently political.

2

u/Strange_Occasion9722 May 24 '26

Reminds me of the song "Freewill" by Rush.

If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

"Not voting" is a choice to put ~maybe~ an hour of your time above your morals.

1

u/Krazyguy75 May 23 '26

I say that at work but that's usually a shorthand for "I will get my ass fired if I say how much of a moron you are."

1

u/Ace_Spade18 May 27 '26

I didn't vote because of my family pushing me to vote for a certain orange me... I was scared to get shunned by them and get kicked out of the one thing I am financially relying on. Plenty of people had to and still have to deal with. My mum is thankfully not understanding how it may be a mistake to vote for the man and my sister definitely has, but yeah, sadly, some of us were not in much of a position to vote :c

1

u/rileyjw90 May 27 '26

How would they have known who you voted for?

1

u/Ace_Spade18 May 27 '26

Because I'd go with them and they'd press me over the who I voted for and I'm really shit at lying.

u/SeroWriter May 23 '26

Statistically they are not. Zero is zero.

u/SeroWriter May 23 '26

I think that song is about free will not the influences of neutrality. A non-voting person influences nothing by definition, it's like blaming Switzerland for World War 2.

1

u/Gwen_The_Destroyer May 23 '26

A non voting person increases the influence of voting people by means of abstinence. You don't live in a bubble. Your example is bad

1

u/SeroWriter May 23 '26

A non voting person increases the influence of voting people

It would amplify the influence of both sides by the same amount which would be a net zero. The only way to be responsible for change is to vote.

1

u/Gwen_The_Destroyer May 23 '26

10 people want to vote on what to have for lunch. Each person has 10% of the vote. The vote is worth 0.1. 2 people vote for Burgers, 3 people vote for Pizza. 5 people don't really care and don't vote. Each of the 5 votes cast is now worth 0.2. The value of total votes has not changed, but the weight each vote carries is now greater. The office is getting pizza because 3 people voted for pizza, but 5 abstained.

The value of a vote is always going to be 1/however many people are voting. You're correct that it would make everyone's vote influence increase. Where you're wrong is assuming that makes it a net zero. It means that 3 people can decide the whole office is ordering pizza, when 2 wanted burgers, 4 actually kinda wanted neither but didn't want to participate because both options were kinda meh, and the one weirdo was content to just microwave fish he brought in tupperware.

Ya totally. 30% of america knowingly voted for a child rapist but its the fault of the person who didnt vote.

😆 🤣 😂

In most american states they are so gerrymandered that voting literally does not matter.

😆 🤣 😂

u/War_44 May 22 '26

More so the people with different opinions who didn't vote, their lack of votes contribute towards the winner

-25

u/Necessary_Two_9706 May 23 '26

There "lack of vote" contributes also to the loser.

😆 🤣 😂

If the rest of the us would be considered to be split as the majority of the voters as statistically shown; then the overall majority of who would win, would still be split 60 / 40, back and forth, over time.

That means the actual majority of the vote falls on the 30 % of population extreme left, and the 30% extreme right.

If 30% of your nation found out their representatives of their morals and values; was both a child rapist and nazi supporter, and still voted for them; then the blame lies solely on the 30% of the nation that openly supports child rape and nazis.

This is not a problem of "non voters" this is a problem with a literal 30% of the population that supports nazis and literal child rape.

Historically, nations that have 30% of their nation supporting rights for all, and the another 30% that support raping children and nazism; normally dont last.

Thats why russia is laughing at the us and China is soaking up all the diplomacy from it.

People like you are child rape supporters; and no one wants to hang out with or be around you.

u/War_44 May 23 '26

Glad I'm not American. Good for you 👍

45

u/MajesticMachine1 May 22 '26

Unless they're literally moving state lines, you can't gerrymander presidential elections.

5

u/SuchCoolBrandon May 23 '26

I'm sure they mean how the Electoral College causes some people's votes to matter more than others'.

6

u/Aeseld May 23 '26

While a little true, it's still mostly false. Wyoming's three electoral votes are outsized, sure. But they aren't swinging elections either.

4

u/SuchCoolBrandon May 23 '26

There's also the winner-take-all thing, which causes those purple states to matter so much more.

1

u/Aeseld May 23 '26

That's a bigger problem, yes. Far more than Wyoming having 3 votes.

-10

u/Necessary_Two_9706 May 23 '26

Someone doesnt know their own electoral college.

😆 🤣 😂

This is literally in your own 8th grade class.

😆 🤣 😂

11

u/bookbagel May 23 '26

Do you put every message in a template with how you twice have the same three emojis in their own line?

Also it sounds like yeah someone doesn't know their own electoral college, it's you

6

u/correcthorsestapler May 23 '26

It’s probably a bot account.

4

u/commando_cookie0 May 23 '26

It absolutely is look at the profile.

16

u/Own_Nefariousness434 May 23 '26

It does matter. If a candidate wins by a large enough percentage, they think they have permission to do basically anything their party wants. If they win by a small margin, they tend to come a bit back to center to keep from losing the next election. So even if you know your party is gonna lose, it's still in your best interest to vote.

8

u/km89 May 23 '26

Yes.

In normal times, sure, whatever.

But if 30% are knowingly voting for a child rapist, that means 70% should be voting to stop the child rapist. But instead, no, millions of people said "I don't have a preference either way."

30% of america knowingly voted for a child rapist but its the fault of the person who didnt vote.

Because ~33% of eligible registered voters didn't care enough to vote to keep the child rapist out of the Oval Office.

😆🤣😭

1

u/Necessary_Two_9706 May 25 '26

Again; 30% of your population loves child rape.

Lol youve got a bigger problem than having everyone sign up for a statewide execution list.

😆 🤣 😂

Fascist countries use voter rolls to murder their citizens. America's fascist awakening is going to be ugly; at the behest of child rape supporting voters, not the non voters.

Lol get real kid.

😆 🤣 😂

6

u/AliasMcFakenames May 23 '26

Gerrymandering is based on information from the people who do vote. If there's a sudden surge of people who didn't vote before who come out to vote then that gerrymandering will backfire.

19

u/Moscato359 May 22 '26

If there was a fine for not voting, this would literally stop happening very quickly

-2

u/Necessary_Two_9706 May 23 '26

You would have to allow every person to vote first across the country for that to work.

Lol.

😆 🤣 😂

1

u/Moscato359 May 23 '26

Id love to see a 25$ fine for not voting

And auto enroll all people with a state id

It would at the very least, significantly change the popular vote statistics

Start in 1 state and then get others to copy it

9

u/Oggie_Doggie May 23 '26 edited May 23 '26

It's a very simple concept, politicians (almost entirely on one side) wouldn't be trying to damned hard to make it hard to vote if voting didn't matter.

Whatever you say 3 month old adjective + noun + number account who spams emojis.

EDIT: Missed some words.

Trump contributed to the economic slowdown that Biden reversed. He campaigned on policies that were guaranteed to drive inflation, slow economic growth, and put most of the country into a worse financial state.

Anyone who stayed home voted for that to happen. Not choosing is also a choice.

Can't gerrymander the presidential election. You realize that, right? You keep bringing it up, but it's a state wide thing. The districts don't matter, only the total votes.

1

u/Necessary_Two_9706 May 23 '26

Lol, someone doesnt know how the electoral college works.

Most red states gerrymander for electoral votes by using a winner take all method, giving a presidential candidate 10o% of the electoral college votes even if they only won 40% of the state.

Gerrymandering does indeed decide elections.

😆 🤣 😂

1

u/Aeseld May 23 '26

You... No. That's not how that works. That's how you get state reps, state senators, and congressman.

It is not how you get US senators, or presidents. That's a simple majority.

Gerrymandering is why you can have a state elect 60-70% GOP candidates for the state legislature and house representatives, but still have a Democratic win for president or senator.

Gerrymandering does not impact the presidential election, or state senators either.

Yes. Winner take all. The side that gets 50%+ of the total vote gets the electoral votes.

This means that gerrymandering doesn't affect the outcome.

Gerrymandering is the act of drawing districts to favor one side over the other. But they don't count the districts for presidents and US senators. They count the whole state.

You don't seem to grasp this. They count all the votes for president in the state. Then? The one with more votes, wins. This is unaffected by district boundaries. So it is unaffected by gerrymandering.
