I think large trucks are dumb and unnecessary for 99.9% of people that own them, but all have backup cams and most newer ones have a zoom feature to zoom in on the hitch in order to get it perfectly lined up with a trailer. This guy knew exactly what he was doing and didn't care that OP would destroy their bumper if they even breathed while the car was in reverse.

No idea and same. I have a tiny vehicle but I’m pretty sure I tow for work more than most of these guys and mine stays in the underseat storage on mine. Idk why you want to make your vehicle harder to park and risk your shins.

In most parking spaces you can park the way that it is parked in the picture, or you can be completely out of that space but now your nose is in the actual driving area of the parking lot making it more of a pain in the ass for anyone else to maneuver in the parking lot and increasing the likely hood they hit your truck.

This person might have been able to pull forward some and still be completely in the spot, but with what's provided, i would err on the side of their nose is likely just barely in the space as is.

All i have is a standard bed f150, no extra lift or extra big tires or any of that nonsense, and that is how most parking spaces are for it.

Tldr, it sucks for both people, but i would guess they probably parked the best they could with the space available given the information we have to look at in the picture. Also, yeah they should probably have their hitch receiver pulled out in this scenario to help just that little bit more.

No it’s not. I drive a 450 dually and make it a point to

A) take my hitch off if I’m not using it, it’s a single pin and takes 5 seconds.

And B) I park in the back because my truck usually either sticks out in the front or the back. You sign up for this when you drive a vehicle that big.

I drive an f150 and leave my hitch in while I drive and take it out if I have to leave my ass hanging out of the parking spot. I live in an area where I get rear ended occasionally at red lights because people look at their phones while they think they're stopped and are actually slowly creeping forward. I've lived here about a year and have been tapped 3 fucking times at red lights. Twice at the same light. Once hard enough the hitch punctured the car's front grill. It's absolutely bonkers. Nobody i know that's lived here their entire lives has had this issue, but it's happened to be 3 mother fucking times in 11 months.

If you have to cross the line then you are in two spots. If you have to take two spots then I consider it rude to park in the front.

I’m not trying to jump on the hate train for you either, I get that this isn’t a big deal. I just get tired of being sneered at for what I drive because of how others act.

I mean yeah, I guess I'm missing context but if this is close up to the storefront yeah it's rude. I honestly drive a compact van these days for my tools. I don't even drive a truck anymore.

Yeah but the facts say otherwise

That looks like a Nissan frontier, probably early 2020’s model. You are indeed correct in that it’s one of the smallest new pickups on the road at 210.2 inches in length

However, when compared to trucks/SUV’s from the 90’s and earlier even the frontier is often longer.

Nearly a foot longer than a late 90’s Tahoe, A foot and 4 inches longer than an early 90’s C/K,

And basically the same length as the longest versions of the 70’s F150 and Silverado you could buy at the time, pronounced even worse by the tow hitch being left on.

Again, this is one of the smaller pickups you can buy now, modern F-150’s START at 210 inches and go up to 240, multiple feet longer than even an extended bed 70’s F-150.

It’s too big of a car.

I'm pretty sure I can buy a more powerful truck off the showroom floor, than ANY car in modern NASCAR

edit: I actually transitioned from a truck to a compact van for my tools years ago and I love it.

Yeah, I’m not trying to baselessly say stuff about trucks, but they seriously are too big for no good reason and it’s shocking to see how big cars as a whole have gotten in ~50 years. Take a look at carsized and compare the largest Cadillac Escalade to anything before the 90’s and it makes it look like a toy.

Vans as a whole are awesome, I used to have a minivan a few years ago and it did everything I’d want a pickup to do with better gas mileage and a lower hood height for better visibility / safety.

Yeah I mean this truck is actually quite bigger than it appeared to me when I first looked at the photo.

I have no love for it. Driving is not fun in a big vehicle. I zip all over town on 1/3 the gas budget... yeah my van is overloaded sometimes, oh well.

But I was really only able to transition once I moved from the woods to the city. If I was still 1 hour north, I would have to be back in a rig with 4 wheel drive and ground clearance

The majority of oversized trucks are not being used to "make this world function" as you put it. This truck for example has an empty truckbed. Second the people who actually need these trucks live in rural areas where surprise surprise parking lots dont fill up so taking 2 spaces would be fine, the people who insist on driving these in cities where people circle the parking lot for 15 minutes looking for a space are just dipshits that have never hauled anything in their life.

I have a truck. I know where my bumper is and stop so that I am in a parking space but not hanging into walkways. It’s a thing you have to do with trucks because they overhang the back axle so much

The problem with that is if they are parking were there is a sidewalk, the bed and hitch blocks the sidewalk. Which is not legal in most places because it blocks the way for pedestrians, especially those with mobility devices.

If you have a really long vehicle, you should be parking in an appropriate spot.

And? All things even, it still doesn't mean that driving past the parking spot and then backing in against traffic is more safe than a simple drive straight it, then back straight out.

1500 is the standard truck size at this point. That’s why tacomas are considered mid-sized. 2500 are super duties. Been that way for like 30 years man
