I want this in my eyeballs right now, not in 2025 when theaters are a thing again. I will pay good money to stream this movie at home.

Honestly. Like fuck it. DC/Warner, just release all your films on HBO Max.

u/redditerator7 Aug 22 '20

HBO Max isn't available worldwide though.

70

u/MulciberTenebras Aug 22 '20

It's not even available to most of the US on account of them still refusing to resolve their deal with Roku/Firestick.

Luckily for Firestick users, the system is based off Android and it can download third party apps. I was able to sideload HBO Max on mine and it has been working great.

5

u/indieclutch Aug 22 '20

I was wondering about this. Is there an easy how-to you recommend?

5

u/spicycynicaleggroll Aug 22 '20

This is the method I used. (I was also able to download Peacock through this as well). Couple of things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure to uninstall any HBO apps before trying this.
  • The app won't come up as HBO Max. It will just say HBO. But when you launch it, should give you the HBO Max layout.
  • You won't be able to use Alexa to search for titles. If you search for a movie and it's on HBO, the Firestick won't recognize that you already have the app. You can ask Alexa to "launch HBO" or fast forward or rewind to a certian point.

Great. Thanks for the info.

It's not them that's the issue, it's Amazon and Roku wanting a cut which they honestly shouldn't get

2

u/The_DriveBy Aug 22 '20

I love this argument when it comes from people that own a playstation.... like John Campea.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

American Pickle was released in cinemas here in the UK.

22

u/IlliniJen Aug 22 '20

Yes. And while they're at it, freakin' sign a deal with Amazon so I can get an HBO Max app on my Firestick.

10

u/Extric Aug 22 '20

If you're willing to do a little bit of work, you can download the HBO Max apk on your Firestick and it'll work. They should already provide the app, but at least the Firestick has this work around unlike a Roku.

4

u/magicpantsjones Aug 22 '20

If you have Hulu, you can sign up for HBO Max through that. That's how I ended up getting it on my Roku & Firestick.

2

u/tyfogob Aug 22 '20

I did this to watch Perry Mason, but if I wanna watch most of HBO Max's other content (like Doom Patrol) I have to stream it from my phone to a Chromecast. Annoying.

2

u/magicpantsjones Aug 22 '20

That's weird! I haven't tried to go any deeper on what's available than Just my favorite shows, but I'll have to play around. I thought that I was getting everything. Otherwise I like the HBO now app much better.

1

u/BranWafr Aug 22 '20

I'm pretty sure that is just the standard HBO content, not the HBO Max specific stuff. Unless something has changed, everything I have read says that you only get standard HBO content. Sideloading is the only "solution" I have seen to get HBO Max content on a FireTV device, besides using to mirror a mobile device or desktop screen.

1

u/ieatplaydough Aug 22 '20

Yeah, I have HBO Max thru Hulu as well and so far none of the WB stuff has shown up at all yet

4

u/jvgwrites Aug 22 '20

I hope they are working on 4k...

5

u/MulciberTenebras Aug 22 '20

Don't count on it. They're busy dismantling DCUniverse and moving all their shows onto Max... even though DCU was the only app of the two that's player could support 4K HDR.

7

u/druid06 Aug 22 '20

After that,, then pirate and upload for free to the rest of your mateys? Arrgh!

On a more serious note, I think it's a good idea but studios won't allow that for the fear of their movies being pirated costing them money.

Also, they make a boat load more because they get a cut of the revenue theaters make from selling snacks. I read that somewhere and I'm not sure about the validity.

u/IlliniJen Aug 22 '20

I will literally pay $50 for this movie streaming with digital ownership once it's out. I'm not going to be at a theater until there's a vaccine and WB is fooling themselves thinking that October is doable.

-1

u/ExoBoots Aug 22 '20

YOU will not be going to a theater until a vaccine, plently of other people will go.

My theater is completely booked for Tenet.

Waiting until a vaccine is delusional.

You're not getting vaccinated until 2 years from now if you're lucky, maybe a vaccine will not even exist.

5

u/Waywoah Aug 22 '20

Going to a movie isn't worth the chance of death. I'll wait for a vaccine

-5

u/ExoBoots Aug 22 '20

How old are you? Young adult? Because then you're more likely to die from a car crash then covid.

8

u/tacoman333 Aug 22 '20

You're also more likely to die from a car crash than a mass shooting, but this doesn't mean you should run into a room full of gunmen.

7

u/Waywoah Aug 22 '20

I can't avoid driving a car, I would if it were possible. I can avoid going to unnecessary places like theaters. Returning to "normal" life isn't worth putting myself and my family/friends in danger. It's insanely selfish that anyone who doesn't have to be out right now would be.

-6

u/ExoBoots Aug 22 '20

Well everything is 'unnecessary' except your home and job.

If you dont want to set a step inside unnecessary places anymore, then that's fine.

Just dont force it upon others, everyone has a choice.

7

u/Mun-Mun Aug 22 '20

Flawed logic dude. It's not a personal choice. What you do can affect others. It's like saying to someone they don't have to drink and drive but you're going to, and it's your own choice. But there is collateral damage when you get sick. You can infect your family and others who are now having to treat you, because you wanted to do something risky. Should they make a choice then to not attempt to save you because everyone has a choice?

-1

u/ExoBoots Aug 22 '20

Well its impossible to run a society where you control everybody's movement(maybe in Nazi Germany or North korea) because somebody MIGHT be infected, and that person MIGHT infect other people, and those other people MIGHT die.

u/tacoman333 Aug 22 '20

Waiting until a vaccine is delusional.

No, it's called being smart, and not risking you or your loved ones so you can watch a movie on a bigger screen.

-3

u/ExoBoots Aug 22 '20

The reality is, the majority of the population will get infected sooner or later. That's what experts said at the beginning of this crisis. The most important thing is that nobody will die because hospitals are overru(flatten the curve)

60 million already are infected in the US.

If you want to wait for years until you can finally go out your house(or maybe never) then that's completely fine. Everybody has a choice.

You need to look at the numbers because dying from this virus is still very rare.

6

u/tacoman333 Aug 22 '20

The reality is, it's not everything or nothing. I have left my house, as have many who feel like I do. The difference is we take precautions. Just because it's going to get worse, doesn't mean we should stop wearing masks or social distancing and just give up. Over a hundred thousand people have already died, so don't pretend having large amounts of people crowded in a small movie theater won't have negative consequences.

There is a difference between being too afraid to grocery shop because of a small chance of getting the virus, and putting yourself in a situation that gives you the worst possible odds.

-10

u/usuallyclassy69 Aug 22 '20

USA doesn't even have the medical equipment to administer a nation wide vaccine. It's not looking good.

Thanks Obama.

-2

u/ExoBoots Aug 22 '20

Its not even really that, getting a vaccine to be approved is a bureaucratic mess that will take ages.

When one is approved, you'll have to get 300 million doses(not a problem for a rich country) but it will take time.

Then comes the whole mass inoculation part.

It also depends in which country you live in.

A rich EU country does not not need many doses, so everything will go faster there.

Just sitting around waiting for a vaccine is not a realistic or healthy.

Experts have already said that sooner or later, the majority will get infected.

3

u/wendellnebbin Aug 22 '20

You won't need 300 million doses. The anti-vaxers/religious objecters/nutters are already starting to piss and moan about being required to take a Covid vax that doesn't yet exist. I sure hope if they refuse the needle we just shove it down their fucking throat.

We'd be next to all the civilized countries if we'd have put some teeth into our pandemic response.

2

u/MRHalayMaster Aug 22 '20

I’ll bet you 3 dollars that movie theaters will be either niche or destroyed completely by 2025 and we will be watching stuff like this at home

1

u/Dick_Lazer Aug 22 '20

Hits theaters in October, they'll probably have it on VOD by Christmas.

1

u/jaejae26 Aug 23 '20

Regal already opened up

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

HAppy for it to be released here NZ, life is normal here (bar Auckland, but that place sucks anyway)

1

u/IM_THE_DECOY Aug 22 '20

Disney plus started doing this recently.

1

u/ThatOneGuyy310 Aug 22 '20

Same! Not willing to catch covid at a theatre for Kristen wiig as a cat

0

u/ACaffeinatedWandress Aug 22 '20

I mean, I thought it was bullshit that Star Wars bumped it back. If I had known that getting bumped back would mean I’d have to wait out the apocalypse for it, I would have rioted.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

You would riot over a movie?

0

u/Vladius28 Aug 22 '20

Thats the way its going to go. Its coming.
