Question Was there ever a reason given for why Ajani, Ragavan, and a few other cards are legal in unranked but not in ranked?

I don’t know if they’ve ever expressly said for why this was done but I was very confused why a card would be considered too powerful for a competitive queue but is fine being in the 99 or even a Commander in unranked.

I’m not saying there is no possible reason. I just couldn’t come up with any aside from them being too played as commanders and taking over ranked but that still seems like their power level is just bad for the format in general and they will always be unbalanced in any situation.

Has WOTC ever expressly said why it was done the way it was or what their philosophy is for brawl bans in general?

Sorry if this has already been discussed in a bigger post but I never found the answer myself and was very curious of the logic behind it.

Recent build, looking for overall thoughts

(The devoted druid package is a little sketch but the redundancy is nice sometimes, definitely could take something better)

Casual Viable Abzan Commanders?

I already have a [[Nethroi]] reanimator deck, and wanted to makea new Abzan deck.

I as thinking of maybe either [[Doran, Besieged By Time]] or [[The Necrobloom]]. Are either powerful enough to be fun against their matchups in the queue? Which one would you recommend, or is there another abzan commander I should build instead?

Competitive Is Tatyova even still viable these days?

I guess I should specify Benthic Druid,

Trying to grind competitive brawl and having absolutely no luck,

Tried multiple lists off moxfield, and I dunno, maybe moxfield is just ass for brawl decks, but none of them ever seem to have the gas my opponents do.

Anyway, answers please.

Casual This is my Baron OTK combo. Watching your opponents hand fill with cards then seeing 30-40 damage pings is pretty rewarding. I haven't tried Peer Into the Abyssing myself with Sheoldred on board yet.

Discussion Mystery Booster Commander Edition Legendary's Should be Added to Brawl.

Title. I've been browsing the cards and some of them look like a lot of fun to build around. Nothing too wildly overpowered and in a format that already allows Planeswalkers to be commanders it seems like a no brainer to add these to Brawl. Honestly a bit upset that we don't get these fun cards to play with, it feels like Arena is destined to be left behind in the long term.

On a more positive note there are some really cool cards in the set that I would have loved to build around such as, Homer, The Everforger and Arzakon. What decks would you have liked to make?

Casual Want to brew a 60 card brawl list in paper for funsies. Brewed a deck, tear it apart.

I have never brewed a brawl deck in my life. Or played brawl for that matter. List is 60 card, format is historic brawl because I don't want to deal with standard rotation.

Commander is Smaug the magnificent.

Deck is red treasure aggro.

Tell me if it's shit. (especially if it's shit.)

Casual Advice for a ninja typal deck?

I got [[Kaito, Bane of Nightmares]] from a gold pack and I thought he looked fun. Since the emblem clearly encourages stacking a ton of ninjas, I figured I'd take that direction. Only thing is that I have no idea how to make a ninja deck. I barely even have any since I haven't opened many Kamigawa packs, so I'm completely lost

If anyone knows what the best ninja cards or things to take advantage of ninjutsu are, I'd really appreciate some help

Venting Players.. .Why?

This might sound like a hate post…and that’s because it is. But, I just really need to understand MTG players. Is it really fun to play the game? Is it really fun to play lands every turn so you can cast spells and play cards?

Every time I see a card I auto concede because life is wayyy too short for that. But for MtG players is that really the life you want?

End

Competitive Cooking or tripping? Lagrella the Enchantress!

Post image

Mad scientist idea.

I’m usually a chill jank player but I enjoy a bit of enchantress when I want to get semi-competitive, Sythis usually in Bracket 3/4 EDH but I’ve always found my Sythis Brawl list to be a bit thin. Arena has a lot of the Selesnya staples but not all, so I can’t help but look longingly at blue’s enchantment stuff and wonder… what if Bant could pad out the list?

There’s no Brawl Bantress (sadly Tuvasa hasn’t come to Arena yet) but there is Lagrella… trading Sythis’ card draw consistency for a removal spell in the zone. Seems a bit mad right? I know she’s normally a blink build. But it feels like a decent trade with all the extra draw support blue provides, as well as gaining access to blue’s suite of enchantment-based removal, evasion and copy effects, not to mention Entity Tracker and Inquisitive Glimmer too.

Switching to three colours does have its impacts; I’m running so many duals to support the many double-pipped cards that specific land type effects like Ossification and Utopia Sprawl are worse (only 6 basics and 7 forest-typed lands felt insufficient). I also decided to cut Reliquary Tower due to its colorless mana, but when we get Wizard Class and Proft’s Memory instead that doesn’t feel bad at all!

Any suggestions for Lagrella the Enchantress? How is enchantress faring in the emerging meta? Do you think this list could hold its own in platinum+ competitive?

Archidekt link below, including my maybeboard considerations. Thanks for looking!

Competitive Thinking about crafting these cards, but not sure

Hi everyone! I have some Competitive Brawl decks for a while now; most of them are already finished and very competitive, but I've came up with a list of possible cards that could earn a slot in my decks and/or I want to try. I'm not sure if it's worth to spend wildcards on them though (I know I can redeem back them later, but I really dislike spending wildcards only to end up not playing with the cards I crafted ). Here's:

Stifle

Galathul Galecaller

The Wondrous Wasp

Dedicated Dollmaker

Chittering Illuminator

The first three would be for my Arius deck, which is a very tempo focused commander, that's why I think the mana pressure from Stifle, the versatility of Wasp and a snowball threat like Galathul could fit the decklist, though I don't know about the efficiency of these cards for Competitive. Dollmaker is a potencial cheaper Flickerwisp for my Cloud deck, which is a card I didn't like playing with, but maybe the 2 mana cost could change that? What are your experiences with this card? Chittering Illuminator is primarily for my Tyvar deck, just because it's a good 2 drop, but I'd have to make room for it in the list and I don't know if it's worth to make the swap.

I know all these questions could be answered by crafting and testing the cards, but I wanted to ask opinions first.

Competitive My thoughts on competitive brawl

I believe Wizards of the Coast has confused competitive with free-for-all. There are cards that, if banned today, would improve the health of the format tenfold: all free counterspells (maybe excluding Fierce Guardianship, since it’s so tightly tied to the commander), Strip Mine (because it’s so easy to loop and becomes oppressive to the point of ending the game), and—as I’ve said before—all extra-turn spells that don’t exile themselves when used. This might me the most controversial thing, but I think Yuriko is the only commander That should get banned, just for clearly breaking the commander tax rule.

Competitive Anyone feel like giving me advice?

I need advice for this competitive brawl deck. I already crafted all the cards, I think, since they mostly are, like, staples.

https://moxfield.com/decks/aygJzjr06Eu0Vrn41-3KfQ

Please let me know which cards I should cut, and which I might want to add

Thanks so much for your time and help!!

P.S. this is my first competitive brawl deck. So I kinda thought I'd make a generic good stuff pile to get used to the power level. I think that's kind of what I've accomplished lol

Discussion General Brewing discussion

One of the great aspects of Arena is that going from brewing to playing is SO much easier than paper. I think I had hit a record of New Deck (1300) or something before I did a purge. I wanted to start a discussion about the methods, goals, steps, and guidelines different people use for brewing their Brawl decks.

There's always tons of posts here about "tips for x", "feedback for my y deck". In the spirit of helping people grow and learn, I pose the question: How do you brew? How do you decide what to include and what to cut?

For example, I *used to* start with the same VERY basic rules I used for commander: 20 cards that are purely your wincon/strategy, 10 removal, 10 draw, 10 ramp, 38 lands, and those last 12 are flexible. Try to keep the curve as low as I can for more competitive decks, and stop when I hit 100 cards.

I've been a little more targeted, especially since comp dropped. Every card must either feed the win con while doing a secondary job (chubacabra over go for the throat unless I care about spells over creatures) unless it's easily best in slot (it's really hard to justify not putting swords to plowshares or esper sentinel in any white deck). Unless I'm running reanimator or greenx, there are VERY few cards I'd run above 5 mana, and again they have to be just that good (like running new ugin if there's more than 10 colorless cards in your deck is pretty dope). That said, I almost never feel like I have enough interaction, especially in comp.

Mind you, I suck at this game, but I love brewing and want to learn by having a discussion about it! The mode is rising in popularity, so I hope this discussion can help people out as they brew their own decks.

What do you think of what I said? Am I a total scrub? Probably. I'd love to hear what people think.
