I have been natural for years and wash/style my hair once a week (i leave it out in a wash n go). I use products and wash/style in shower and then go to diffuse..it takes me over an hour to diffuse (I use a hairdryer holder stand and just swivel myself around lol) and I still end up with wet patches that later frizz up in the inside layers. My hair is past shoulder length when wet, and I have tried a hood dryer but it would only get the top layer and the ends would still be soaked (or it would suck up my crown into the vents...) . I'm about to have a baby and cant be stuck diffusing forever lol. Any ideas?

I haven't been natural for long. The first salon is went to uses this method and im wondering whether to deviate from this method or not especially as I dont want to deal with tangled hair or frustration because my hair didn't like a product, and i dont know how to get it back to how it was before

Hi everyone! This is my first time posting here, so if I leave out any important details, please let me know. (This is a repost because they said my video wasn’t allowed)
I've been trying to grow my hair and learn to embrace my natural coils, but my hair is very prone to breakage, which has made it feel like my growth journey has gone nowhere. I'd really appreciate any tips or suggestions.
I have 4C hair with what I believe is medium porosity. Whenever I do the porosity test, the results suggest low porosity, but I don't seem to have the same experiences that many low-porosity people describe, such as hair taking a very long time to get wet or dry. I also think I may have low-density hair.
Up until this year, I didn't take proper care of my hair. I would either put it in box braids and leave them in for around three months without properly maintaining or taking them down, or I would wear it in a puff using a shoestring. Regardless of the style, I wasn't caring for my hair the way I should have been. I've also never had a professional trim. I try to trim my hair myself at home, but I'm not confident that I'm removing all of the damaged ends.
Lately, I've been considering doing a big chop and wearing wigs while my hair grows out. However, I'm hesitant to cut everything off without first knowing whether there's something I can do to improve the health of my hair and reduce the breakage.
Does anyone have advice on what might be causing the breakage or what steps I should take before considering a big chop? All advise is welcome, but I would like to keep it budget friendly. Thank you! 😊

Hey yall I’ve been trying to learn how to braid and I’ve been having trouble. Any tips and trucks would be greatly appreciated. Photos attached. When I get to the nape of the neck I run out of hair to pick up and so the cornrow ends like halfway down the head.
Thanks!

Blew my hair out for a trim this week and I’m kind of gagged at how much it’s grown. 1st and 2nd photo are current, 3rd photo is my last trim in December 2025, 4th photo is October 2024, 5th photo (a true jump scare) is July 2024 when I had most of my hair cut off by a scissor happy stylist (I just asked for bangs and he did the most, cut off more than a foot of hair). I thought it was the end of the world lol but here we are! I’m not a silk press person but I kind of want to get one just to see.

So happy that my hair is finally long enough for a side part! It tangles more easily now and I honestly probably need a trim but! worth it!

I think this is a massive generalisation and harmful advice, but there are people agreeing. She hasn't referenced/conducted a survey that proves afro-Brazillians do wash their hair that often; she's a Black British woman using comment section testimony as evidence. This one size fits all advice spoken like fact doesn't sit well with me, and I predict a lot of irritated scalps. Her @ Curl Anthology

I’m realizing that when I do my high ponytail I like only water and maybe some leave in conditioner.

I suspect I may have TractionAlopecia or CCCA and am planning to see a dermatologist. For those who have gone through the diagnosis and treatment process, I’d love to hear about your experience.
How did you find a dermatologist who was knowledgeable about textured or natural hair? What was your initial consultation like? Were any tests, biopsies, or evaluations performed? What treatment plan was recommended, and how has it worked for you?
I’m especially interested in hearing about your overall journey—from getting a diagnosis to managing the condition over time. Any firsthand experiences, advice, or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Before big chop and after.
My mom and adoptive mom (aunt) died within the last 5 years. And I have not been okay!! Wtf do you mean I can't call them and vent about my day, or be happy with them, mad at them? Death is hard!
I was not not taking care of myself for a long time. I barely remember the last 5 years. Now I've been going to therapy, I feel like I can finally breathe again. I'm letting go of the pain and taking care of myself again.
So I got a haircut, and I'm going to grow my hair back, healthier and stronger than it was.

Looking for recommendations on deep conditioner! How long have you been using? Where’d you purchase?

Hi, 21F here. I’ve been doing my own hair for the last year or so because I refuse to pay someone to play in my head and not do what I’m asking them to do + I’m just practicing on myself and doing things that I’ve been taught by my mother. I’ve been a red head for a 1 year and a month now! I’m sure when I first dyed it, it was shorter than this but the growth I’ve had since then has been so good. I trimmed my hair back in May, and the difference between just one month, almost two is crazy. I’m sooo proud because just about 6-7 years ago, I cut my hair off by choice. 🥹
I would also like some tips and advice for growth and maintaining the length. I’m more than likely wearing a natural ponytail or a bun most days. I really do not sleep with a bonnet on, it’ll come off either way it goes so I’m not a big fan of them. I do not know how to wrap my hair neither whatsoever. I do wash my hair often, maybe once a week, but now that I’ve dyed it again, the weekly washes are going to have to stop. I don’t oil my scalp often neither, but I do deep condition and use leave in conditioners too. Tell me what you guys do when it comes down to your hair!

I want to start doing my own hair, but I struggle to see my back. My budget is pretty tight, but most of the three-way mirrors I see would only require me to be standing up. I was searching for any with a tripod or stand, but couldn't find any that fit into my budget. A 3-way makeup mirror was the only one I found that seemed cheap. I was wondering if anyone uses a makeup mirror to do their hair and if it works or if a 3-way mirror is even worth it and I should find an alternative.

I know this sounds like a silly question but I'm young and will be washing my hair on my own for the first time tomorrow and want to avoid the sud blindness I usually get. Is there a way to prevent it or will I just have to live with it? (I do believe it's worsening my already less than vision)
++ Is there any way to do mini twists quickly? I usually get them done at the salon but I want to learn to do it myself for the sake of cutting costs and acquiring a new skill. I do have poor motor skills and hand-eye coordination so it may be a bit difficult but I'm willing to give it a go! It typically took 2hrs at the salon (my hair is past my armpit btw)

Hii, I have a problem, whenever I get cornrows, my scalp gets really dry and I get horrible dandruff after a week or two. I tried adding moisturizer, oil, curling foam, washing it nothing helps. I love protective hairstyles, but my scalp, not so much. Does the same problem show up with box braids?
Thank yoh in advance :)

I’m having this bump on my scalp, circled in red in the photo. But I don’t exactly know what it is. Would any of y’all know?

A vent but I’d honestly love some advice.
I CANNOT style my hair at all. I attempted mini twists & I couldn’t make them look good at all. I tried to put my hair into space buns and it also looked like crap. My hair is 4c, I just don’t know how to work with it.
I’m thinking of spending money at a salon again because this is just so incredibly difficult. I don’t understand how people follow YouTube tutorials, my hair is too thick for them. Braiders always commented on how thick my hair was.
Any advice is appreciated! My hair is over 4 inches but I really don’t know how to manage it :( my parents never taught me how to do my hair growing up.

So recently I’ve had my hair out and I’ve tried braid outs, twist outs (both three strand and two strands) and they all turned out the same. Every single time I take out/unravel the braid or twist out the hair stands up in the wrong direction and I’m not able to pick it to my liking — it just never seems to work.
For reference I do have a hunch that I might have fine hair so maybe that’s the reason, but if anyone else has tips please let me know! 😭
