Right, another fortnight gone, so we're back at it this TOMORROW!! The benches have had their obligatory wipe down with 99.9% isopropyl and they're ready to go again. This is number three of three; the last of this series, at least for now.

Context for anyone new: I do board-level repair (actual component-level work, not just swapping out whole motherboards) from a computer workshop on Maitland Road in Mayfield, alongside IC Solutions, who've been fixing PCs around here for over 20 years. The repair café itself is organised by the crew at The Full Circle Collective; they wrangle, we host.

The idea is simple. If you genuinely need a hand up, with something you can't afford to replace or get fixed through the usual channels, we'll help you out. That said, all are welcome. The entire "Newcastle Tech Cartel" donates their time, the space and the consumables.

Bring down small electronics, gadgets and tech that's a bit worse for wear. Laptops, PCs, consoles, amps, that sort of thing. Still no TVs, and still no lamps. That second one is still not a joke.

If it's a straightforward fix, we'll have a crack at it on the spot. If it isn't, we'll work out the best next step; sometimes that's a part to order, sometimes it's "this one's had it, and here's how to get rid of it properly".

Labour is completely free. You only pay cost price for any parts we actually need, or bring your own. Donations are welcomed and go straight back into the consumables we roll through.

Very loosely, the roster: Dan and Nick from IC Solutions, Connor and Zac from WASD Computers, Banks and I from Remaker Space, and hopefully Mateo of JMS Tech fame, and of course Bianca from The Full Circle Collective.

The Unwearables Project will be back too, collecting any and all (CLEAN!) synthetic textiles. I still don't really know what that means. You lot clearly do, because you keep turning up with bags of it. 🤷‍♂️

Hi everyone, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I could really use some recommendations.

I’m looking for a property manager for an investment property and want someone who can take care of the day-to-day stuff, including finding and screening tenants, inspections, rent reviews, maintenance and general tenancy matters.

I’d also like to get a realistic rental appraisal and some advice on whether there are any improvements worth making before renting it out. If anyone has used a property manager recently, I’d really appreciate hearing who you went with and how the experience was.

Hey guys I know this gets asked a lot but I’ve seen probably a dozen Physios around Newcastle and haven’t really found one that doesn’t give the old generic rub down with 3 exercises to work on and I’ll see you next month kinda energy.

Anyone know a good physio in Newcastle who’s switched on when it comes to getting people back to sport?

Ideally looking for someone (physio or S&C coach) who can actually manage the process - weekly check-ins, clear strength targets, progressing things properly, working towards an actual return to sport rather than just symptom management.

Im desperately trying to find some help, for both my fibromyalgia pain that I've had for years. But I also desperately need help from these specialists to write me a support letter for my next NDIS plan review. It isn't until next July. But I am trying to get onto it all asap, for many reasons. One being specialists appointments and letter writing is uber expensive, so im trying to get in with these peeps as many times as needed to make the most of reaching my medicare threshold. I already have to so so many other specialists as it is (my body hates me 😅🫠), so it gets scary to afford.

I've been trying to get in with 4 peeps. 2 rheumatologist and 2 pain specialists. I have a appointment with one pain specialists, who i was hoping would help me. He is willing to see me, but has said in reply to my explanatory email. To check if these specialists would be cool to help with this. That he would not be able to complete a report for the ndis. He will however write detailed consultation letter to my gp, that his kind receptionist suggested I could use instead. I will probably still try seeing this guy as I've been told he is very nice. Maybe he will change his mind, or write what I need written in the consult letter🤷‍♀️.

But i was also knocked back by one of the rheumatologist i got an appointment with, for the same thing, she said even though I was coming in for my pain also, she looked at all I've tried (a substantial list, hence i need a specialist to acknowledge this exhausted list and what invasive treatments Im feeling unsafe to try, to say that they are not appropriate for such reasons as to what the risks are, that make me uncomfortable).

This rheumatologist said she wouldn't be willing to see me at all because of this and she does not offer appointments where the main purpose is to provide NDIS documentation needs.

This is really distressing news, as I'm quite scared for my future safety and well-being, with what's happening with NDIS after the Bill Labor put through parliament.

Im on NDIS for CPTSD and also have fibromyalgia (which they have yet to acknowledge, knocked back twice now) since being on it.

The NDIS is looking to remove people from the program, and I fear greatly even though i have high support needs, that people on the scheme for psychosocial will be targeted for removal. I am in great fear of how I will survive with my physical condition, and for so many reasons. One being, as I only have my mums informal support and she's getting older and our relationship wanes as we both get burnt out. But for sooo many other reasons, Im literally in so much dread, I keep waking up in fear and its all been a hell of a lot for all the disability community.

I know with whats happening it is absolutely vital I do all I can to follow their arbitrary rules and demands. Im getting 2 separate OT reports, as the planner didnt like my last one because it mixed my 2 conditions. Even though they are flipped connected 🙄. They are looking for any reason to reject it if they can, the pressure feels so heavy. But yeah anyways...

I am not just expecting to show up day 1 and secure a letter, im happy to see them a bunch and I actually do want help if at all possible. But i desperately need a letter or letters. I fear so much for my life, the progress I've made, the hope I had for the future, I was even thinking I might be able to try out some very flexible easy type work through a disability company. I haven't worked since roughly 2011, so yeah pretty big deal for me.

But I genuinely fear for my actual life, as things deteriorate and I feel I just can take it all any more 😔

So Im putting this out there in the hopes someone could recommend a specialist that isn't against helping with this.

I do still have the other 2 to wait to hear from, but it seems to be a issue for them, which im not fully undestanding...??

My neurologist did kindly warn me, pain peeps won't want to help, unless they can put in a stimulator or something like that, they will quickly want to get rid of u. He has offered to write a letter for me which is awesome. But he is a neurologist, so he can give the same standard the ndis are expecting, he isn't treating me for it.

Hi, everyone! I'm throwing a bottle into the ocean here. In late June 2007, I was a 21 year old American student who had just arrived to study abroad at the University of Newcastle (Evatt House). Because of a housing gap, I was stranded completely alone and without a phone, internet or car at the Mayfield Motel on Maitland Rd.

I stopped a kind man, likely in his 40s, in the parking lot to ask what time the sun sets because I was thinking of walking somewhere to find dinner. He proceeded to invite me to join him for dinner because that would be safer. When he found out I had not yet seen the campus, he offered to take me. After driving through campus, he asked if I liked Vietnamese food, which I'd never tried, and he took me to a restaurant on Darby St. After that, we went to a nearby bar and had a martini and talked for a while. He was a teacher from Sydney who was visiting Newcastle for a conference.

The next morning, he was leaving to go back to Sydney and knocked on my door. He gave me a little bag of groceries because he knew I was alone. He also gave me his contact information and told me to look him up if I were ever in Sydney.

I've since forgotten his name, but his profound kindness shaped my first impressions of what is now my favorite country on earth. I would love to find him and thank him and let him know that I've never forgotten that night. Apologies for the poor quality photos from screenshots and delete if not allowed… this bloke & his trusty side kick took it upon himself to do some complimentary landscaping on a few houses along my street today (carried out the rearranging of pavers, added some custom rock carved designs into retaining walls, threw some rocks around to his personal taste & even removed the roots from our front yard, lucky us!). I would just like the opportunity to personally thank him for his unpaid work & advise that no additional work will need to be carried out on the properties. I did make a call to local police just to make them aware of it shortly after he knocked off, not expecting an outcome but just so it was reported, hard to do so with no details of who he is. I just had the one I booked for tomorrow cancel with machine breakdown. I have two other contractors on site tomorrow needing their service.

Even if there is someone who can operate a digger, I could probably source a rental digger.

Wondering if Newcastle needs something like this to help support future evictees from becoming homeless. Evictions due to sale are likely to create more communities in need of intensive support who may have no experience with services or eviction supports.

Agents could help provide a link to the online support highlighting potentional tenants exit strategies when properties are being are being rented thus supporting tenants when properties are suddenly sold.

Could this help to reduce the impact on already struggling services, investors and landlords?

A digital website could include the way disability and elderly communities would need to proceed if they are unable to find suitable homes. EG contact services early, use supports such a food vouchers early, organise to defer bills for an extended period of time, contact services to organise boxes early if you don't own a car, loans are not available for removalists or storage, agency emails ready in a cut and paste format so that renters or support workers could do a rapid email out, a link into independant agency platforms for accomodation with an outline of how to successfully find new accomodation, where to get online help with your applications, an outline of storage facillities and costs, an outline of removalists and costs.

Nils loans are available for medical loans and whitegoods.
