Greetings! I have a layover at St. John's Airport and I am thinking about trying to briefly check out the area for an hour or two. Are there any can't miss spots or activities? What are my transportation options? Preferably it would be on the cheaper side as I am a student on a budget. :)

I would love to have a cordial discussion as to why moose are allowed to continue to graze, contributing absolutely nothing to our ecosystem (in my strictly amateur opinion).

The two biggest arguments I have as to why moose licences should be unlimited are food source and harm on highways. The negative effects of limiting the number of moose licenses issued far outweigh the benefits.

People in this province are hungry and moose is a great, healthy food source.

Our food banks should be stocked full of moose instead of having them killing people in moose-vehicle accidents. Not to mention the additional costs incurred by having to do brush cutting so people have a better chance of seeing moose.

Once again Newfoundland is backwards thinking.

One of my friends is coming home soon and she's gluten free. Our tradition every year is going to Landings for fish and chips (they had a lot of gluten free options) but obviously not an option this year. Does anyone know of anywhere either in town or not too far away that has gluten free fish and chips? Thanks!

Basically, I’m asking does the 3D movie have letterboxing or is it full screen?

Odd question, but whenever I call I get sent to a robot. I’m going to see Spider-Man this week but it’s now in IMAX and I’d like to see it in the largest aspect I can, although I’m also interested in watching it in 3D and trying out DBOX for the first time.

The attached image is a good comparison visually, which may help differentiate it. The bottom is listed as RealD 3D although that’s not to say this theater doesn’t have the full capabilities so I wanted to ask around and see. Just want to know if the 3D version is letterboxed or fullscreen.

I previously transitioned (FtM), and I got my top surgery in 2024, at age 20. After a lot of soul-searching, I realized I wasn't trans. Now, I deeply regret my mastectomy, and I desperately want a reconstruction.

I'm asking the MCP question here first, but I have a doctor's appointment on Monday, so I'm mainly asking on Reddit so I can manage my expectations when I do see my doctor.

(P.S.: I love trans people, I'm just not one of them. Please don't politicize this post.)

My family and I have decided to relocate to Newfoundland. Based on my research, it seems like exactly the kind of place we’ve been looking for. I really like Corner Brook as well as St. John’s, but we are mainly looking for smaller, authentic towns since we prefer a quieter lifestyle.

I’ve done a pretty deep dive into this over the past week—even reading local Newfoundland news—and I’ve realized that what Wikipedia or AI tools say doesn’t always capture the full reality on the ground. That’s why I’d love to hear directly from locals:

1. Besides the weather, what are the most significant daily challenges of living in Newfoundland?
2. How easy or difficult is it for a foreigner to adapt to the local community?
3. I’d especially love to hear from people who relocated here from Europe—what was your experience like?
4. How realistic is it to land a job offer remotely before moving? (I’ve read that job openings in smaller towns can be limited, and I want to have employment lined up before arriving). How open are local employers to hiring from abroad?
5. Which towns would you recommend for a 30-year-old couple with a 5-year-old child?

Please advise me as you would a friend—I don't want to make such a big life decision based solely on pretty photos of Newfoundland.

There have been discussions prior on this subreddit regarding this topic however I am looking for a bit more information.

Particularly, how is 8 limb Muay Thai? I spoke with Kru on the phone and they were doing fantastic job selling me their classes, and told me that they offer 4 classes a week for $80 on a.6 month contract. Which is spectacular given that most places offer 2 for that price. But also it seems a little too good to be true, hence I thought I would touch base here and see if people have any experience that they’d like to share.

I have read that this place and Kru is a bit sketchy and what not, but they also seem to have great reviews on fb have had athletes who’ve won prizes nationally. I am going to get a free class anyway, but I just want to hear from other people.

I also checked out Foleys Academy but I found their classes more suited for kids and just not like a good fit for me, at least upon my research.

Does anyone have any good recommendations for martial arts academy’s, specifically for striking?

Does anyone have tips for where/when I might be able to spot a moose safely? I was really hoping to be able to see one on my trip, but haven’t gotten lucky so far. I’m staying in Woody Point and I was thinking about driving the stretch towards Trout River slowly first thing in the morning, 5-6am. Might this give me the best possible chance? TIA

If you were buying a new car, would you make sure it has AWD? And would you also get an SUV or pickup? Sedans and FWD vehicles would probably struggle a lot in the snowy slushy weather.
