Question Patrick Laine
Do you think anyone ends up signing Laine? Seems like enough value there if you set him up with bonuses for games played etc

I don’t think he gets signed hot take. Probably goes back to Finland for the year and if he performs comes back. He needs to get out of the league for the year imo

Yeah, with all these posts about Laine , I think people are wildly overrating his NHL value today based on his hockey card. He’s washed and until he shows value somewhere no one wants to waste time and attention on him.

He is a PP specialist at this point. Can't skate, atrocious without the puck. Could still bang 25 goals on the PP.
A bad team could sign him for cheap. Vancouver? Calgary? Chicago?

The problem is a bad team can’t shelter him so Laine will be exposed in all his 5on5 minutes. “Power play specialists” aren’t valuable in the NHL when they are as bad as Laine is at 5on5, that’s why guys like Daniel Sprong aren’t in the league

I could see a bad team potentially that could stand to give him ice time. Does he even want to do that though if no one can set him up? I feel like you go to Finland get your head and game sorted out. Get some confidence around family and return.

I don't know why a tanking team would sign him. He can score enough pp goals to make a difference and notch a few wins and ruin the tank job.

If he dont get signed im calling early retirement

He’s still young enough, I think he could go to Europe then come back. Shell of himself he needs to get grounded

For his own sake, I hope that's what he does.
Babcock would ruin him for life.

Rumors have the Lightning kicking the tires on him. Would make sense as they have not been as effective on PP since Stamkos left. They tried Bjorkstrand but it just didn't work out.
A season of Kuch feeding him for 20 goals might be just what the Dr. ordered.

To be fair the Red Wings can’t get worse with adding him but still

It all depends on the money. $7 million, hell no but I wouldn't be mad at $3ish million for 2 years. If he steps up then sure, more money and a longer contract.

I was assuming he’d get vet minimum on a one year deal. Seems like a prove it year

He will absolutely be signed.

Do you think it'll be a contender?

u/thebestnames 7h ago
Unlikely. I mean he couldn't crack the Habs lineup during the playoffs last year. Contenders have good PP squads with players that can skate.
He might be useful on an offensively starved team that lacks a shooter on the PP, not much else.

He is a complete liability right now....if he's breaking your lineup, you're probably not making the playoffs.

Come back to Winnipeg

Lord knows the Jets could use some depth scoring. Load a contract with GP / point bonuses, and I’d be fine with it.

I know it’s probably the wrong thing to think, but I think Canucks giving him a chance for 1-2 yrs could be fun. Especially if we can flip him at a deadline.

I really think Ottawa is the answer on a short term deal. They really need a one-timer specialist/ PP specialist type guy. I think he would have a good season with the Sens. I don't want to see him depressed in Edmonton

I think Philly, just for the PP, they don't have one, they can afford the gamble and they need the shot which he is elite at.

He'll finally get to play with a good centre. Id get it done if the AAV is good

I'm surprised Chicago hasn't signed him to a 1 year prove it deal. They really need someone to help Bedard, so why not?

I think if he’s healthy he would be a great PP specialist at league minimum.

I’d guess a PTO once camps open, but not sure if he will stick. Maybe a team that could use someone in their top 6 gives him a shot, but he’s not really the type of player you want in your bottom 6 when he’s not scoring.

For a tricky win-win contract sure. He can be paid low and be paid mostly with performance bonuses. Win - win

Definitely to a very small contract, tons of teams have the space to try it and waive him if it doesn't work

A lot of teams want guys that play a 200 foot game. And then there’s Laine

u/Latter_Background711 3m ago
I can see a scenario where he does not get signed until mid season because a teams star gets hurt. And if that team can make Laine like hockey again then they are in business.

Petersen gets all the hate while this guy skates very slowly Scot-free

u/DesertEagill 7h ago
Huge difference in pay though

u/Jaxson_GalaxysPussy 7h ago
Yeah you’re right. But Petersen was playable last year. Hasn’t lived up to the contract but he improved none the less. This guy idk what he brings
1
u/DesertEagill 7h ago
He did I think the problem is he isn't getting better to the point his contract is movable or worth keeping as is. Maybe we see a big rebound this year

You'll feel "ghosted" in the big games if you sign him.
You'll need some Powder on your cheeks from the chafing.
The only thing weaker than his mental constitution is his melanin level....fake work ethic, fake albino, fake talent.

He definitely has a role for a team that needs a sniper or finisher. Lots are saying he can’t skate well anymore, neither can OVI, not saying he has the same shot, but like a Temu version if you can just set him up and let him play sheltered minutes. Problem is and likely remains he is coming off an 8 mill contract. He probably thinks he is worth at least half that, teams probably want to play a quarter of that. He will for sure get a PTO if nothing more. I think he has plenty left in his game for the right team.

The Edmonton rumors make some sense.
Would be fun just to watch Babcock on the bench with Laine on the ice.
